I remember getting my NES for xmas the year it came out. Loved it so much. i am not a gamer, but I miss that old stuff. So my wife just bought me the switch today for our anniversary (I am 47) and I can not wait to play these old games I grew up with

Vice Project Doom isn't a car shmup, it's a really cool, 80's-vibe action platformer with cutscenes and story (... ish) and everything. It just opens with that driving section you showed as basically an early example of a playable intro cut scene.
I beat StarTropics. You should play it all the way through, because it is like a classic Sci-Fi movie. It is a highly underrated game made specifically for Western audiences, and it is a crime that Nintendo hasn't done anything with the series since Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II. It also didn't help that both games were released on the NES, with the last one showing up in 1994 in the final year of the console. Also, if you do play StarTropics again, remember this code: 747. Without it, people can't complete the game. This was a code that came with the original manual on a piece of paper that had to be dipped in water. I say that because, midway through the game, players are asked to put that code in their ship: something that Nintendo forgot about because none of the games online come with digital versions of their instruction manual. There is also a music puzzle in a later section that requires a basic understanding of Solfege. Peter the Parrot is key.
StarTropics was a game I played over and over. Well worth the time put into it. I'm glad it made the list of included games. There is a part of the game where you have to put in a code and I got the game used from a game store that was going out of business and it didn't include the instruction book. My brother and I spent many hours putting in the three digit code starting from 000 in order until we hit 747. The boss fights were great and challenging and the game play mechanics were very put together for something so old. I wish they would include more games. There's plenty of classics that aren't included including the Star Wars games and they did make a couple Star Trek games that were fun to play. I do agree that Mario 3 is at the top of the list and Kirby is near the top.
Rygar is so underrated.. just stick with the game and you'll beat it easily. You don't lose experience points when you die so just try again. The amazing soundtrack will surely help. NES Top 15 IMO.

People should have been encouraged not to rate a game at all if they weren't familiar with it. There were too many people who sandbagged legit good games like VICE, Shadow of the Ninja, Journey to Silius, Crystalis, etc. just because they didn't know anything about it, never gave them a proper go (it literally doesn't cost anything extra to try it out, your precious SMB3 won't mind), or wasn't what they wanted. Of course, this is the internet. I'm not surprised. Edit: BTW, an incomplete version of Donkey Kong is ranked higher than all the games I mentioned (it sits somewhere in the middle of the ranks). I’m 48 years old. I remember when I bought my first Nintendo when I was a teenager in 1987. I remember saving over $300.00 from when I worked as a paper boy back in the day and bought it with my hardened money. Kids today don’t realize the work that we had to do to get what we wanted when I/we were kids.
Bro Kirby’s Adventure is a great game. It’s definitely one of the NES games that has aged best. Graphics and gameplay it’s one of the most impressive games on the system and really has everything you’d want from even a modern Kirby game
I was surprised when I played Vice: Project Doom.. after the initial top down driving level, the game turns into something else..not a classic by any means, but it was a cool surprise, and neat that some devs were getting weird with game formats/genres. Funny how so many games really were Zelda clones!
Alex, I think you get a strike in baseball when you hit the ball you hit it into foul territory, meaning you a foul ball. A foul ball can be hit as many times but can get up to 2 strikes, which you cannot strike out on a foul ball (unless you’re bunting but that’s a whole other story)

I can tell you didn't play Vice Project Doom for more than 3 seconds. It's not a driving shmup, it has multiple gameplay types, the "main" gameplay type is actually a side scrolling platforming game, very similar to Ninja Gaiden.
super dodge ball is a game that can be addicting once you get into the mechanics and assigning guys in the right way. gotta put the time in and you will be rewarded. And how does one not like Tecmo Bowl?
Adventures of Lolo seems criminally low to me. It isn't the pinnacle of gaming by any means but there are so many games above it that are just meh while Lolo has genuine charm. It is supremely satisfying when you complete a particularly tricky puzzle too #loloforsmash

Surprised Ice Hockey is so low-it’s simple, but by far the best sports game on the NES. Also, it’s the only real option for hockey on Switch.
That and Blades of Steel are both excellent IMO.

Punch out is my personal favourite. Once you delve a few hours in it just gets better and better. It's so satisfying to finally beat an opponent.
Not my favorite nes game, that would still be Mario 3, but it has to be at least top 5, it was lower than I expected.
I love Wario’s Woods. It even has a nice “story” mode.
