- Another Mode Envoy for a client! This time it's a product run of the mirage color, which has a seemingly greener colorway. I am unsure what prompted this change in color but I prefer the new color, however I would have liked the color to be properly displayed on their website to make sure the green comes through more.

I think using similar words to describe both audio and keyboards actually makes it easier to understand what certain signatures sound like and why people prefer certain sounds. An example might be how PE foam makes boards sound "harman" by adding more low end and a bit more top end, and it also explains why for higher end or endgame builds most people go foamless because it sounds more neutral/less colored, just like what people look for in a high end pair of headphones

I think if we measure keyboard sound in 3 ways it would be so much easier to describe the sound without hearing it.
Volume: is whatever sound it makes quiet, or loud, or somewhere in the middle?
Pitch: is the sound deep/low pitched, bright/high pitched, or somewhere in the middle?
Resonance: Does the sound ring out, or is it more muted? Or maybe somewhere in the middle?
And then you can discuss if these qualities benefit or detriment the sound in your opinion, and obviously people kinda know what you mean if you say there is a rattle or ping.
this is a really good idea, we need more objective ways of describing keyboard sounds and feels without just using random adjectives and made up words

Using audio terms is objectively correct. You're talking about a keyboard *sound,* so why wouldn't you use audio terminology? lol

It's true that people should describe sound of switches in other words rather than thock, pop, creamy. Clack is pretty general for switches so that's ok.
I once bought a set of switches that is described as "thocky" but ended up being deep clack on my boards. I was confused why it sounded like that even after re-lubed with 205g0.
It was later I learned that people hear and describe the sound differently even with same switches, board, keycaps and build (foam or not).
That was about a year ago when I was few months old into this hobby.
I like the bluer one, the prototype. I wonder why they changed the coloring. As to the tilt, even the Sonnet can be tilted when pressed hard enough on the top, but by this point it's picking bones.
it's hard to recreate ano color as there isn't like a formula or recipe to get an exact color. generally will always be some variance when you are replicating unique colors
My Envoy is the same color as Alex's. I ordered early in the original preorder.
Do we actually use these _PCB to Plate standoff screws_ at 0:26? My knowledge is from the earlier years but I was under the impression they stiffen up the board unevenly and most enthusiasts leave them off intentionaly. Has this changed? What are the actual benefits?
I might have to try them out in a build when I have the time and motivation to rebuild a board.
I still have them in most of my builds, just screwed half way down as I always have, but for clients I recommend taking them off.

They do but I feel the pre-lube is just whatever so I add a bit of 205g0. :D

we need more bright red keyboards imo, maybe I’m just a child or a gamer (or more likely just a longtime Portland Trail Blazers fan), but there are not many bright red boards!

To this day, over the dozens of his videos I've watched, I still haven't figured out what Alex means when he says "bright" or "full."
Effectively depth. Thinner sounding builds generally have a weaker sound signature that doesn't have much depth to it, whereas 'full' sounding boards have more depth to the sound overall, and typically a little reverb that helps to accentutae it. 'Bright' is just like high-pitched. Effectively a lively sound, compared to something that's deeper and more muted
I am curious, why is it that people who arent what they say "keyboard experts" only going after Mode keyboards. Was this released in kickstarter or something? Im really curious how theres so many custom mechanical keyboards and all of a sudden, ill see people showing Modes randomly just like how keychrons became popular. But keychrons are cheap, whereas Mode is super expensive. How did you even find out about it
