I wonder how finding out she'd messed with their minds affected her relationship with them? I can imagine it would have caused some friction between them.
Hermione did not need the stronger version of the memory charm. Why? Because it is doubtful Voldemort could track her parents in the muggle world. Once her parents were "the Wilkins" and did not remember a thing, they could do nothing to give themselves away as the Grangers, and by moving far away, they got out of reach of any possible Death Eaters. It would have take considerable muggle sources to find the, which Tommy probably did not have. And with the Wilkins not even knowing they were in hiding, or knowing they were the grangers, they also could not slip up and give themselves away. Hence Hermione's plan being very good.
She just probably took out their memories like Wizards do to put them in the pensive kind of a way. Kind of like put them in a flask and then when she got done with the Wizarding War she just put them back.
So let me get this straight. Obliviate is not a charm where you can make people TOTALLY forget what they've seen, right? Coz it supposed to be memory charm? Remember in Fantastic Beast when Jacob tells Newt that he remembers everything coz there's not a single BAD MEMORY he had experienced while knowing magical world. So it kinda said obliviate is only to remove all bad and dark memories? While adding it with memory charm might produce something else like missing the entire memories or memories change. Hermione using obliviate won't work if it only works on bad memories. Her parents wouldnt think of her as BAD MEMORY now, do they? But they did forget her anyway. So it means she must have added up some other charms inside
As a only movie watcher for quite some time and now book reader the movie always made me believe that literally it was irreversible and that she would never be able to reunite with them, therefore I thought they eventually died without ever meeting her again…
I love the idea that she did it after her 2nd year...the summer before her third. It makes total sense why she never goes back home after book 2. Not that anyone can actually confirm...
If it was for the dramatic effect, it definitely worked, after that scene, everything changed, no longer did i see hermione as just a school boy crush, specially with emma all grown up.
Good explanation about why Hermione used this particular charm spell. Better to have them away while the Wizarding War was going on. She doesn't have to worry about her parents remembering her, and can focus on what is the biggest challenge in her young wizarding life.
I would rather they say some random memory spell and not explain, than her using ''obliviate'' and never mentioning her parents in the movie again, it was clear when I saw the movies that she never saw her parents again after that . Glad that's not the case. (yes, i haven't read the books yet)
Depends which Canon we're speaking about. Obliviate is irreversible. Regardless if its in the movie or film, that's been established. Film Canon, she has nothing to recover. They'll never have those memories back. Book wise, this topic is already answered
@Ruturaj Shiralkar Thanks that sounds really interesting man however I don't think I'll ever read the Cursed Child Book sadly with so much negative reviews and hate for it.:-/
I really love the part in the movie where Hanine is introducing her parents as dentists. Nobody is impressed. Dentists are doctors, they go through medical school before going to dental school. They are basically specialist doctors. The wizards are like, oh well that's nice I guess.
Seems like "obliviate" would be one of the most effective "battle spells" to use in stead of "expelliamus" or "rictusempra". One "obliviate" and the target can never fight back again cause they won't know who they are anymore.
@@ellenjarrard7920 If it was that bad the ministry of magic would have made it one of the "unforgivable" curses. They didn't so they must figure it's ok to use. Not to mention in a battle like those you should use what you can to survive.
I imagine you can plant false memories with magic, so you could implant false true memories and a false approximation of personality traits loose enough for them to return to a baseline. Could've been used with Neville's parents too. Pensieve and copies of enough memories from close ones. Their private moments couldn't be restored but still.
So essentially both Hermione and the Order Protected muggles. I am, of course, referring to the Dursleys being the other case as they were forced to leave the country by the order to protect them. I always wondered why wouldn’t they prosecute the Dursleys after the end of the second war considering Harry’s testimony.
It’s not the place of the Ministry of Magic to take care of that. That’s gonna be a Muggle Court issue, but the reality is that a trial won’t change anything. Also, Petunia and Dudley seemed to have a couple redeeming moments in the Deathly Hallows
I know I’m super late to this but I’ve read some of the comments and have an idea. Of course in the movie they didn’t want to waste time explaining another spell, which realistically would have taken a few seconds. “I wiped my parents memories using (insert spell here). It will remove us from their minds but at least I can undo it later”. Also, obliviate was used more as an amnesia spell (like one of the comments stated is the German name for the spell) in Chamber and is not selective of memories, so here is where my theory comes in. Hermione is likely the most gifted witch/wizard of her time so in my eyes it’s not completely inconceivable that (in the movie version at least) she could have found a way to alter the obliviate spell to be powerful enough to select which memories to erase, give someone a completely new identity and still be reversible. Think of all the simple spells she could do at the beginning that no one else could and all the more advanced things she was able to do before anyone in her year, or even older students for that matter.
HP Theory quick question When Harry killed Voldemort could he still have the ability of parseltongue as the only reason why Harry could speak to snakes is due to that piece of Voldemort’s soul inside of him ??
Does make me wonder though as many spells lose their effect when the caster dies (example - Voldemort and the defence against the dark arts job.) Would the charm Hermione put on her parents still be in effect should she have been killed?
In the book she said that she’s never done the memory removing spell when she was gonna do it to the death eaters but she had done it to her parents so like someone explain or is that just a mistake in jk Rowling’s part
The Incantatem in the movie is Accruciate, not Obliviate. Yes they sound similar. We are never told but the incantation to MODIFY Memory is apparently Accruciate.
I would assume that the film used Obliviate because it was a spell audiences were already familiar with rather than wasting time explaining in a later scene what she had done. With her using Obliviate that meant we could see what she did and it made it more dramatic, yes, but also it didn't have to take time out of the film to explain because we all immediately understand what she did. That was always the impression I was under. 🤷♂️
It’s more dramatic that she erases their memories completely, because it is a sophisticated moral act to do something like that. It invades them (so immoral), it saves their lives (so moral), and it is a personal sacrifice.
In the book, after Harry Ron and Hermione subdue by death eaters in that diner - Harry suggests that they modify their memories rather than killing them, and Hermione says I've never used a memory modification charm"or something to that effect.
When J.K.Rowling was asked about that in an interview, she explained: _«They are two different charms. She has not wiped her parents' memories (as she later does to Dolohov and Rowle); she has bewitched them to make them believe that they are different people.»_ I hope, I could help you! Have a blessed day and stay well!☺️
I am glad it was not so tragic. If you do not mind a request, could you do a theory if it is possible for humanity to change for the better with just one witch or wizard? With the right knowledge, and equipment can they raise up civilization?
Lockhart also got hit by a rebounded obliviate from a broken wand. Who knows how that altered the power and effects of the spell. He's lucky that things like breathing arent stored in memory or he might have ended up offing himself.
@@kaimagnus5760 breathing is not something done by memory. Your body is made by God to know how to breath the second you come out of the womb. But if he forgot how to talk, that would be hard.

I haven't read the book yet, but I would like to know why Harry didn't see Snape when he was about to let himself be killed by Voldemort. He got to see his parents, Sirius, and Remus but no one else.
I think there is a video on that. But for me, it's quite obvious: he saw the people he genuinely loved, who genuinely loved him for his own sake, and who have shown him genuine parental affection. His parents truly loved him and sacrificed themselves for him; Sirius was his godfather; and in a way, Lupin also acted as a parent for him. (So did Molly and Arthur Weasley, but they were alive so the Stone wouldn't show them). None of this applies to Snape. Harry had only known of Snape's true feelings and motivations for about half an hour when he entered the Forest -- not nearly enough time to thoroughly change his feelings for him. And in the book, Snape makes it abundantly clear -- even when he protests against Dumbledore's plan to sacrifice Harry -- that his love is reserved for the late Lily Evans, not for her living son. All these years, he's been protecting Harry for Lily's sake, not for Harry's own. Snape doesn't love Harry -- he resents him, sees James (whom he envied and hated) in him, bullies Harry incessantly in retaliation for the way James bullied him. What Harry needed in the Forest was genuine love and affection -- something that he didn't feel for Snape, nor Snape for him.
The Incantatem in the movie is Accruciate, not Obliviate. Yes they sound similar. We ate never told but the incantation to MODIFY Memory is apparently Accruciate.
After she has located her parents, she could use the exact same spell to restore her parents’s memories. By modifying their memories again and convincing them that they have a daughter, they’re not called Wendell and Monica Wilkins, and that it’s not their life’s ambition to move to Australia.

Voldemort could have tracked her parents down and then just lured Hermione out by announcing that he had her parents, they would not have known who she is, but Hermione would be looking at her parents as Voldemort decided over their fate.

Where is the Hogwarts Express station actually located? Does platform 9 and 3 quarters just open up to an train station somewhere else that looks deserted to muggles?
Platform 9 3/4 is located at Kings Cross, on the other side of a brick wall. @@cpink102292 I know it's through a brick wall im trying to say when you go through the platform you end up in a different location where the Hogwarts train station is located because wizards can make it so that it appears abandoned to muggles so they would just see an abandoned train station instead of the Hogwarts Express station

@Oof Oooof69 Technically it's not, it's designed to define allies from enemies at their own risk. You could argue it is because of its historical use but you can use Fiend Fire to destroy a horcrux so realistically there's a practical use for it in stopping dark magic.
The one red flag I've found as I reread the series as an adult was how absent Hermione's parents are from the story. They hardly ever appear in the story, except once or twice to pick up Hermione from Kings' Cross, they are mentioned only occasionally - their names and that they are dentists - and they don't seem to involve themselves in any aspect of Hermione's education and magical life. I found this to be extremely odd because no parent in the series (except maybe Voldemort and Snape's parents) act this way towards their children. It's also strange as Hermione is a main character, because this is not the case for the parents (especially the mothers) of Harry and Ron, who are very influential to the story. Lily Potter love sacrifice protected him for 17 years, and the mother's love she gave him in his first year of life ensured that he didn't grow up like Voldemort. Molly Weasley was an Order member, fought in the war, protected her children from Bellatrix Lestrange, and almost single-handedly ran a household of 7 children - cooked, cleaned, took care of their education, knitted them jumpers every Christmas, etc. Arthur Weasley worked his butt off to support his family and got bitten by a snake protecting the prophecy about Harry. But Hermione's parents - nothing! If Hermione is one of the three main characters, then why is this? Is it because they were Muggles? It can't have been too many character stories for JK Rowling to handle! If it was because they were muggles, then I fear this has some quite disturbing implications about how JK wants us to view muggles. It implies that Hermione's parents, being non-magical, were not significant enough to contribute to the story, much less to their daughter's own life. It reflects somewhat that Hermione's relationship to her parents was not significant - further implying that she was somewhat ashamed of being a muggle as she grew up, and/or that a smart, courageous young woman like her (not to mention arrogant and narrow-minded at times) did not need parents in her life to guide her because she had magic (a terrible message to young girls, if this is true). All these implications, if true, reflect the sentiment towards muggles that the reader should take away - that not having magic is to be inferior in one way or another. Maybe I'm going off on an irrelevant tangent! Does anyone else feel this fact is odd and hints at some disturbing underlying message about Hermione and maybe muggles in general? Let's discuss it!
Ok but I have a question that I think is really good and video-worthy(not being bigheaded) You can only see thestrals when you see someone die, right? So why wasn’t Harry able to see thestrals since the age of one?He saw his mom die, didn’t he?
If the Hermione's parents were convinced that they should move to Australia wouldn't their passports and other necessary documentation still have their original name or did Hermione also modify those documents so that they are truly convinced of their new identities?
By modifying her parent’s memories, passports and other necessary documentation would change as well (like what we saw in the movie, her image disappearing from every photo, passports and even their parent’s info in the government data bank systems would be altered as well)
Not mild, Hermione’s charm was powerful and while it was technically forced, it wasn’t done in a evil or malicious manner. So I don’t think comparing her’s to Barty Crouch Sr. Charm is very accurate. He went overboard to prefect Jorkins from blabbing and bringing him and his wife shame, not really for his son. Hermione on the other hand knew her parents wouldn’t be left alone and that she had no other choice, and therefore was protecting them. So I think Hermione’s charm would’ve held up infinitely better than Crouch’s. It could’ve still been broken, but it would’ve required way more magic.

Can you make a explaining video for the whole Fideluis Charm and Secret keeper thing? I think there are so many gaps and confusion about the topic
They went Westeros and got killed in the red wedding.
0:50 Look at Arthur weasley's face 😂😂😂😂
Be good to see a new video of things like this happening and after affects
I love the idea that she did it after her 2nd year...the summer before her third. It makes total sense why she never goes back home after book 2. Not that anyone can actually confirm...
If it was for the dramatic effect, it definitely worked, after that scene, everything changed, no longer did i see hermione as just a school boy crush, specially with emma all grown up.
Good explanation about why Hermione used this particular charm spell. Better to have them away while the Wizarding War was going on. She doesn't have to worry about her parents remembering her, and can focus on what is the biggest challenge in her young wizarding life.
Thank you for explaining 😊
I would rather they say some random memory spell and not explain, than her using ''obliviate'' and never mentioning her parents in the movie again, it was clear when I saw the movies that she never saw her parents again after that . Glad that's not the case. (yes, i haven't read the books yet)
Depends which Canon we're speaking about. Obliviate is irreversible. Regardless if its in the movie or film, that's been established. Film Canon, she has nothing to recover. They'll never have those memories back. Book wise, this topic is already answered
Can you do what happened to the Malfoys after the wizarding war I think that would be good topic to cover
@Ruturaj Shiralkar Thanks that sounds really interesting man however I don't think I'll ever read the Cursed Child Book sadly with so much negative reviews and hate for it.:-/
Thank you, this question has bugged me since part 1 was released!
Could you do a video theorizing on what Newt Scamander’s patronus is? I’ve been thinking about it for a while now and I wanna see what you think
I personally head cannon it as a Niffler. Causr Newt seeks out magical creatures the same way a Niffler seeks out shinny things.
kai magnus hmm that could be possible
🦡💛🖤 Mundane answer: HoneyBadger, because he truly represents Hufflepuff 😇
My guess is a salamander and that's why he loves Tina lmao
I really love the part in the movie where Hanine is introducing her parents as dentists. Nobody is impressed. Dentists are doctors, they go through medical school before going to dental school. They are basically specialist doctors. The wizards are like, oh well that's nice I guess.
Hanine
Seems like "obliviate" would be one of the most effective "battle spells" to use in stead of "expelliamus" or "rictusempra". One "obliviate" and the target can never fight back again cause they won't know who they are anymore.
That would be unethical though. I would thing that one shouldn't use that spell willy billy since it is not always reversible.
@@ellenjarrard7920 If it was that bad the ministry of magic would have made it one of the "unforgivable" curses. They didn't so they must figure it's ok to use. Not to mention in a battle like those you should use what you can to survive.
You should do a video on Aberforth Dumbledore after battle of Hogwarts!
Thank you so much for making this awesome video😎😊
that's a long way of just explaining that they forgor 💀
I imagine you can plant false memories with magic, so you could implant false true memories and a false approximation of personality traits loose enough for them to return to a baseline. Could've been used with Neville's parents too. Pensieve and copies of enough memories from close ones. Their private moments couldn't be restored but still.
Hey I love your videos and please do one about what is happening with modern day wizards
I know that the mother became the lady of Winterfell and had five other children.
Can you do a video about how the wizarding world deal with Covid-19?
Like i said last video your on fire!! With the great content thanks broski keep it up. 👌
That’s what I wanna know!
He couldnt
There was a jk rowling interview with that question
Excellent question Harry is a descendant of the peverell brothers.its quiet possible. wondering myself
No, he couldn’t because the part of his soul was destroyed when Voldemort used the killing curse in the forest, meaning that no, he can’t.
No but I’m the cursed child (which I don’t consider cannon) he magically regains the ability but the cursed child wasn’t even written by J.K so yeah
This channel is soo good. Ty
You can feel the emotional turmoil from Emma Watson as she deleted her parents memories
Please do a video on y liquid luck isnt used more it could have been used on bith sides for so many tasks idk y it wasnt used by them morr
Could this Memory Charm be used to erase pain memory (e. g. for the Longbottoms)
Does make me wonder though as many spells lose their effect when the caster dies (example - Voldemort and the defence against the dark arts job.) Would the charm Hermione put on her parents still be in effect should she have been killed?
Well the spells that Moody put in Siriuse's house still worked after he died. So idk, I guess it depends on the type of charm
She has not wiped her parents' memories (as she later does to Dolohov and Rowle); she has bewitched them to make them believe that they are different people.»_
I hope, I could help you! Have a blessed day and stay well!☺️
I am glad it was not so tragic.
If you do not mind a request, could you do a theory if it is possible for humanity to change for the better with just one witch or wizard?
With the right knowledge, and equipment can they raise up civilization?
I seem to recall a mention that Obliviate could be undone. I think it was mentioned in book 2 after Lockhart blasts himself. Can anyone confirm?
Andrew Gedge Lockhart never actually recovered so I’m not sure
Lockhart also got hit by a rebounded obliviate from a broken wand. Who knows how that altered the power and effects of the spell. He's lucky that things like breathing arent stored in memory or he might have ended up offing himself.
@@kaimagnus5760 breathing is not something done by memory. Your body is made by God to know how to breath the second you come out of the womb.
But if he forgot how to talk, that would be hard.
@@thecensoredmuscle563 Thats basically how Alzimer's Disease kills people is by making them "forget" how their autonomus functions work. Reguardless of maters of faith, that is how the brain works. Though "forget" is a bit too simple of a term for whats actually happening.
I’d love to see a video on why does so much of the malevolent plot points take place in Albania....like why is that such a hot spot for witches and wizards to go?
Super carlin brothers found out that albania was a term for Scotland in old english
Wait but as Voldemort says, really powerful Wizards can reverse a Memory Charm right? And if Hermione isn't powerful, I don't know what to say.
Great job 👍
I’d to see a video explaining all the different transport methods that wizards and witches use, floo powder, port keys, apparition ect. Like their histories, limitations, how they’re made, who makes them ect.
The word is flue. A flue is the passage in a chimney through which the smoke passes. Sometimes wizards and witches go in and out through it as well.
@@emmitstewart1921 While that is true, the magical chimney transport item is called floo powder.
In the movie I always wondered if she erased her parents’ memories, what did they think of Hermione’s bedroom since they had no children. If she changed her room before going downstairs, they didn’t show it.
"Obliviate" just sounds cool.
On the way to 200k lets go
How is it this was a happy outcome but you still made me cry?
Thank you ever since the movie Where she makes her parents forget about her came out I was wondering about what happened
Should have read the book
@@timklebel879 allow me to rephrase my question. I made this comment before watching the video and I was hoping he would explain from Bonus material or something what exactly happened after the movie. I read the books. Also your comment comes across as rude
@@soulsemblance3163 I guess in the movies they stayed obliviated, unless movie canon says obilviate is reversible
So, lady katylyn tully had afair and had a child ,"Hermione"😂
Voldemort could have tracked her parents down and then just lured Hermione out by announcing that he had her parents, they would not have known who she is, but Hermione would be looking at her parents as Voldemort decided over their fate.
What would happen if the founders of Hogwarts talked to ilivermorny years ago
Before the first war Sirius and regulus black should’ve used this spell on creature just one of them died and they both died anyway
Am I the only one questioning how in the movie, when Hermione erases her parents' memories, and every trace of her in their lives disappears, she practically changed the timeline itself?
What happens if you die in the wizarding world
Where is the Hogwarts Express station actually located? Does platform 9 and 3 quarters just open up to an train station somewhere else that looks deserted to muggles?
Platform 9 3/4 is located at Kings Cross, on the other side of a brick wall. Supposedly there's Aurors near by to Oblivate any muggles that accidently go through the wall or that take too much notice at multiple people running ito and disappearing into a brick wall. Though nothing actually stops muggles from going through, whether on purpose or accident.
@@cpink102292 I know it's through a brick wall im trying to say when you go through the platform you end up in a different location where the Hogwarts train station is located because wizards can make it so that it appears abandoned to muggles so they would just see an abandoned train station instead of the Hogwarts Express station
,,obliviate “ erase only Hermione from her parent’s memory so Dolohov’s and Rowle’s memory was erased not completely too or they forgotten more? I don’t understand this🤷♀️.
But thank for the video❤
Can you do a video on dual wand cores? I'm curious if Pixie Wing and Unicorn Hair can share a wand.
Where was Voldemort’s wand during the time he was less than human? How did he get it back? How did the escapees of Azkaban get their wands back? One would think they would have been snapped like Hagrid’s.
What is the ost used in your recent videos?
I'd imagine it's because the Obliviate charm was used in The Chamber of Secrets and would be more recognisable to the Audience?
Why was Percy weasly in the slythern corridors?
Ok tho , pretty urelated , but i have a huge question: can you _change_ houses? Like , is the sorting hat wrong or pherphaps misjudges the characteristics of a student, or maybe a student does something which does not alligns with the values if the house , can the house be changed? Or are you expelled or continue to belong in that house , but without recognition?
Thanks :)
I enjoyed that. Is their another channel I’ve seen you talk about your animated story creating some type of movie please fill me in. I have a feeling it involves $$ to which I have no problem with. Alex T. “ your a wizard Harry”
Why was Protego Diabolica not used to defend Hogwarts in the Seventh Book/Film despite it being a known spell 80 years previously or potentially earlier? - Idea for a subject matter, love listening to these on the train. Keep it up.
This was deep and intense omg
Hermione even states in the seventh harry potter book in the diner I don’t know I’ve never done s memory charm but I know the theory
She says something along the same lines in the movie, after she has obliviated her parents 🥺
All I know is Hermione's mother is Catelyn Stark
