    I met Nick for the first time on that 2019 tour! Had the pleasure of hanging out with him on the tour bus before the show, and a little afterward too. What an amazing dude. It's really too bad to hear that tour was a bad experience for him, but I totally get it based on what he said. But I had some bandmates and guitar students of mine come out for the show, and they unanimously were blown away by Nick and his band in particular. And that's the thing, you have to remember as a musician that even if 9 out of every 10 people in the room aren't enjoying it or being obnoxious, there's still that 1 person who will be profoundly affected because of your music. Never stop doing what you do, Nick!

    As a massive fan of Nick's since even a couple of years before his first appearance here, it was touching to see how enthusiastic he is about his new music, Archival, and Ben in general. Over the years he's become possibly my favorite musician.
    I'm assuming the story he told about the bad tour billing was the tour he did with BTBAM & The Contortionist which surprised me at first. I would imagine The Contortionist fans vibing with Nick, but I guess with BTBAM being the force that they are most people were there solely for them. Even just hearing that story was painful though, that's like a literal nightmare scenario.

  • @happycadaver
    @happycadaver 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Pretty bummed to hear about Nick's experience on that particular tour. I saw him play around that time so maybe this was the tour he was referring to, but it was with BTBAM as the headliner and I want to say Contortionist as well?? Anyways I saw him open at Toad's Place in CT and I was already a huge fan, but the crowd wasn't really digging it and I definitely believe it was because of the pairing. I thought he still killed it though and I got to talk to him for a bit after his set when I was buying some merch and he was a super nice guy. So Nick, thank you for everything. Just want to give you a shoutout and say your music is continues to be killer, and I'm very happy to hear you're doing well and congrats on all your success!!

    Speaking of the guitar surpassing the guitarist, there are two guitars that do this as well as any others: the Nick Johnston Schecter and the Lincoln Brewster Strat. Easily two of the best guitars I've ever held. They're both extremely versatile and beautiful and fun to play. Of course, Nick Johnston is REMARKABLE and while only known to a limited audience, Brewster is sneaky good. But again, the point is, these guitars stand on their own 100%. Anyways.... awesome interview. Thanks!

    I love electric guitar instrumentalist music like Satriani or Vai, but Nick is my favorite due to his strong sense of melody. Surely he has amazing chops and tone, but it is his melodic playing that brings me back to his records. Also, I own a Schecter USA S-style guitar, and I would put it up against any boutique S model. Great guitars. I'd love to get a Nick signature guitar one day. They look amazing. Best of luck, Nick.

    I played one of these guitars at a guitar center recently. It was the atomic green S style guitar and I was completely taken by the road fingerboards and the fretwork. My son was doing drum lessons for about a month so I would have 30 minute sessions of just sitting around playing guitars in the shop. Generally speaking I’m a fender guy and I played every fender and squire in the shop over that course of a month. This particular guitar was in the U section and I was completely flabbergasted at how amazing the neck felt. Put it in simple terms this guitar was an order of magnitude better than any fender product under $1000 easily and punches way above its price range. I would dare say that the quality of this guitar exceeds fenders American pro two models and the pick ups three single coils sounded Spanky and clean but if you give it distortion it never gets muddy it does exactly the kind of thing I look for in a guitar. I felt like you could play country on this guitar or back off the tone controls and play some bluesy stuff or crank up the metal and play very fluid leads that never get too compressed. If I were to rate this guitar one out of five I would probably put it at a 4.9, it had a slight scuff on the back of the neck keeping it from being five. Also do you have locking tuners in the Goto bridge held tune perfectly. With fender and Gibson having their prices go out of control it’s nice to know you can get one of these guitars and still have a quality instrument at a reasonable price. At their prices you could probably afford to get all the colors I can’t wait for the PT model to come out!

    So glad you moved the volume knob away from the strings. I hate the volume position on a strat.
    Interesting you mention the custom shop neck felt thicker. Why do most manufacturers always push the slim neck thing, it instantly puts me off a guitar. Fender soft V all day for me or a fatter Gibson neck.
