I enjoyed this podcast very much, and learned a lot about Nagar Kirtan. However, I didn't really feel the discussion about taking Amrit was very helpful. There was a lot of talk about "you're never ready so just do it", then it was "if you don't think you're ready ask the Panj Pyare." I didn't really feel there was any acknowledgment of people who are pressured to take an oath they are not ready for, and that actually not being ready is a real thing that needs to be respected. Nor was there any talk about the amount of pressure put on those who have taken Amrit, and then are expected to be perfect all the time by their fellow Sikhs. I hope this issue is elaborated on in future. I look forward to the next podcast! WJKK WJKF

If we are to make the Khalsa a special thing that not everyone can just have automatically (something I am given to understand had to be earned in the past), then everyone will not be Amritdhari. I believe we should all work toward that ideal, (and as a Panth stop brow beating our Amritdhari brothers and sisters when they are not yet perfect) but honestly not everyone is capable of it.
I found Bed Time Stories by Santokh Singh Jagdev a good series of books for learning Gurmukhi, improving reading speed, and learning history. Each Sakhi is in Gurmukhi and English side by side so it’s pretty useful in learning new words and if you get confused while reading the Gurmukhi, you can read the English to understand the meaning.
Please make a video on people from non sikh background who want to accept sikhism and how can they get into good sangat. This topic is of alot of importance for non sikh who would like to accept sikhi

It might sound a bit random but I think a lot of the youth right now is getting anxious and losing the internal energy and motivation to work (including me lol). Also, it’s kind of exam season after Easter for all of us haha. You guys could include heavy useful tips, mind programming and maybe inspire us to take on a broader vision in our personal life for the Khalsa panth.

I think Hukam and Karma are not mutually exclusive, as the seeker progresses, once Hukam is realised all karma is burnt. When ego is no more, no karma.
Yes! Pretty much when you are one with hukam, you act in the world but those actions don't create any karma because "your" not the one acting anymore. You cease to exist. In Gurbani, Bhagat Kabeer Ji says "jab ham hothae thab tu naahi ab tuhi mahi naahee." He says "when I exist, you (God) don't exist. But now only you exist and I don't exist." When you don't exist anymore, only then God will be present and act through the body. Gurbani also talks about being dead while alive. So your body will be alive, but the death will occur within. This phenomena has been replicated so many times by the enlightened beings, over and over again throughout the ages.
Quick question: if you as a Sikh see a fellow singh or singhni doing beadbi of guru jis bana eg- (drinking/smoking with a dastaar or dumalla) how should we advise them, should we ignore it and live and let live or have a go at them/ kindly advise?- shaan
every situation is different ji where possible 100% speak to the fellow Sikh and explain the importance of the roop .. maybe they just need a good chat and have fallen off the path and need some guidance

Being pushed by auntian, rammed in the ankles by push chairs, having ppl rub up against you etc etc not my version of a spiritual or even a fun experience. When we use the word "sahib," we are referring to a living being. The Sikhs refer to the bani as "sahib" because the bani is alive. We say Japji Sahib, Anand Sahib, Chaupai Sahib, etc. Sahib also means master, so the Guru Granth Sahib ji is our master. We also say "ji" at the end as a form of respect.
Great show! Here's a few things to think about though: 1. The word 'Muslim' means 'Submitter' in Arabic. 2. Your ideas regarding the Nagar Kirtan are TERRIBLE. Nagar Kirtan's are a Punjabi community event, it brings all Sikhs together regardless of their level of religiosity, and the free food gives them (namely kids) another incentive to go. It's important for a small widespread community like ours to connect to each other. It's also common for a lot of Hindus to attend anyway, namely those with Punjabi schoolmates. There are also always tons of people standing outside to observe the parade from all different backgrounds. If there's one thing the Punjabi/Sikh community does right, it's Nagar Kirtan. You underestimate the cultural power of a fun social event. 4. Sikhs should not be afraid of criticizing other religions (within reason) and bigging ourselves up with parchar, the Guru's were VERY critical of the various superstitions and immoral people they were faced with. Sikhs don't benefit from converting others, but we should encourage others to learn to live a 'Sikh Lifestyle', if they wish to convert after that, that's their decision. 3. You need to do research on 'Caste' in Punjab. Punjab was a tribal society, dominated by tribes with no set Caste designations (Jatts are a prime example of this) and even the British recognized this. We should stop talking about 'Caste' and start talking about 'Tribe', because the two have a very different connotation. The ability of Guru Nanak to destroy the Varna Caste system was aided by this tribal foundation.

I converted to sikhi due to parchar and we definetly do not need more food as there are not enough leaflet stalls at the nagar kirtan. The ratio is way off. I travelled 2 hours to southall and the only leaflet stall i saw was basics of sikhi at the nagar kirtan.something wrong with that. BOSTV Never said to stop food but they said more parchar. People dont even know what they are doing there and just standing around. But we SHOULD NOT be afraid of saying why our religion is the best. Sikhi is the Ultimate truth, and far too often the most 'committed Sikhs' are too afraid of saying that. The other religions aren't equal, and in a SENSIBLE DEBATE (not cussing someone out) we shouldn't be afraid of saying so.

Yes the aunties meet after a long time, eat jalebi and kids run around but its not a punjabi chit chat event, it's a sikh event where we learn about sikhi and its heritage. People dont even know what they are doing there and just standing around. Sikhism is not something belonging to punjabi people but its a shame that majority sikh belong to one ethnic group whilst guru nank dev ji travelled the worls to preach sikhi.Having a chit chat isnt going to get us anywhere and some extra education isnt boring lol . I think you are more punjabi than sikh perhaps which is your personal choice. Gatka is amazing because our gurus told us to learn how to protect ourselves and others.Why do we need to say boastfully say sikhi is the best when our actions speak for ourselves. The only faith that everyone, from a king to a beggar will sit on one floor in the langhar hall. No vip treatment etc. Theres no need to boast about the truth. The truth shall prevail through our actions and parchar. Parchar is not boasting. Which again relates to my first point. Parchar is not boring to those who want to learn.
