    Thanks for this. I've never had white sheets. Always colored sheets and towels. Recently, I've been buying white sheets and towels. My home feel so happy and clean. Oh my, it does smell good! Here in Portugal most people do not own a dryer. Everyone hangs their laundry to dry out on foldout racks.
      I think we will be getting a dryer just for the sheets - they are so big!

    • @robinbirdj743
      @robinbirdj743 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vibrantly50 that’s still true in many places ( Germany, France, Italy, the Czech Republic, etc) and it’s frowned upon to admit one uses a dryer ( how wasteful! It’s so harmful for the environment! In Germany, especially, where they are outspoken about such things). I appreciated the perspective and am putting in a clothesline again.

    I love white bedding and curtains and towels/washcloths, simply because they look fresh and clean and the ways to wash them are to use bleach, or a mixture of white vinegar/lemons/baking soda, and to dry them hanging them in the sunlight helps bleach/whiten them. I love that aspect of white linens. However for everything else (especially for clothing) I'm definitely a black lover. Black clothing in general is easy to take care of and I feel like it lasts longer it doesn't show wrinkles, doesn't stain (unless if you bleach it) and even after you do accidentally bleach them you can buy at home laundry machine dyes and just re dye your black clothing and other fabrics.

    When my daughter was in her last year of highschool, she loved white. Had a white hoodie, white pants, by graduation she found the love of her life, and married him a few years later. But his dream was to become a heavy duty mechanic and open his own business. Her white clothes have been replaced with black, navy and dark gray. Her bath towels, kitchen towels, and bedding are black, navy and dark grey. They have a little girl now, all pinks, whites, and frilly girly clothes, and the occasional large dirty hand print from daddy. How can my daughter ever get her love of white back into her life? And still keep the other love of her life. Does Oxyclean work on oil and grease?

    I wouldn't have anything but a top loading machine, clothes get so much cleaner! Oxyclean is fantastic! I got cut really bad and bled all over my bathroom towels, rug, cloth makeup bag and my clothes. Had to go to the hospital for stitches. Didn't get to clean up the bloody things until the next day. Put everything in the washing machine with Oxyclean, let them soak about a couple of hours, even the makeup bag then washed them and there was no trace of the blood. I agree with hanging things on the line outside, everything smells so fresh! So sorry I sounded like an Oxyclean commercial I just love the stuff. A little tip for the utility sink, after I fill it with the hottest water I can I have a plunger I only use for sheets and things I need to whiten, saves your hands!

    However, my white kitchen rags are turning gray... So I don't know if I'm doing it wrong, or if I should actually be using gray because my kids are just that messy.

    I learned from a hotel worker to wash whites in cold or cool for the first wash without bleach and then hot with bleach for the second wash and that seems to remove stains better instead of any stains getting set in. Of course they have to use bleach in the hotel but I do this with baby oxyclean and it works for us. We have 5 kids (11 and under) and all white sheets. I wash their sheets twice a month and the pillowcase weekly. In the summer their feet are black but the sheets still look good!

      I won't buy a front loader. I have a top loader,but prefer and old wringer washer to let it go as long as I want.

    • @cecilyerker
      @cecilyerker 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My front loader gets my clothes really clean and most importantly it doesn’t rip them up like the blades in my old top loader did. It all depends on the brand and the quality. I have a newer LG washer and dryer. I also always wash for the longest possible length of time setting, because that’s what gets your clothes cleaner.

      I tried stricture bamboo bedding but they heated me up soooo bad felt like I was sleeping in polyester even though they feel so soft. Currently sleeping in all white linen bedding. Fitted sheet pillowcases and cover :) love it! So comfy and cosy
      Really want a percale set though

      @@Ohkeh640 was it 100% bamboo? A lot are blended with polyester. Strange as bamboo literally is designed to cool you down. It’s one of its properties.

    I disagree with the old top loaders, the agitator is too hard on fabric over time. I’ve had front loader then the old top loader than back to the new top loader w/o agitater and it’s like night and day. Oxi clean really does help with whites! Also as a guest, I prefer white sheets because I can “see” they are clean😂

    • @cecilyerker
      @cecilyerker 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m team front loader! I got a front loader in the first place because the agitator blades literally cut holes in my clothes and sheets!

    Thanks very much. I have cream drapes that got wet downstairs while waiting for the laundry and they got black mould. I tried vinegar in the wash water, I tried bleach in the wash and still no luck getting out the grey stain from the cream. What do you recommend?

    • @SheHoldsDearly
      @SheHoldsDearly  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd try a _soak_ with the oxiclean white revive, a regular wash through the machine, and then LOTS of natural sun while it dries. And instead of hanging it up to dry, I'd lay it out flat across some chairs, or laid on the grass so that it gets full sun for as much of the day as you have a place for it. You can also try squirting lemon juice on them while they're still wet before they go out into the sun. I hope you have some success!

    I also love to buy white sheets when thrifting. Here's a tip for any blood stains ( when ya' have kids...it happens). I use hydrogen peroxide on a q-tip to pre treat and also put a bit in the wash and it ges rid of them!

    I can see your logic in this choice but I personally hate white. Now off white/ecru/ivory/etc I love. I had my color analyzed years ago and I'm an Autumn and decorate using my color palette which doesn't include pure white.
    Also, if you find really grungy bedding you can do a strip and or a deep clean to bring back original color. The strip removes hard water deposits, product buildup, etc, then the deep clean removes body odors, oils, and stains that may remain. It's a great way to get towels, bedding and even clothing fluffy, soft, stain free, and presentable again. Look up laundry love and science.

      Just be careful to only use a _small_ amount if any, dish soap in the washing machine - otherwise you could inadvertently create a giant bubble mess. :(
      Are you able to line dry your items to see if the sun can help bleach them back to white?

      Hi Nancy! Do you have a utility sink at all? If so, I'd get either a stock of shop towels, or disposable towels and have those near the utility sink with some good de-greaser soap and ask that all preliminary hand washing after the garage is done there! If you don't have a sink, maybe set up a small hand washing station by a hose outdoors (at least for the summer!).
