Well now we know a general idea of how high Bernard’s level is. Which is to say high enough to kill a level 12 player with, not just one attack, but a prolonged execution cutscene like in Skyrim when an enemy is so strong they just obliterate your health bar.
Nah, it's a cutscene-derived execution, levels don't factor into it. This is the result of the player choosing particular branches of the dialogue tree, a different option (like givin' 'em all his gold) or even a shift to action would likely have changed the outcome. I'm also guessing that, had the player defeated Bernard and Charles in combat, they would have a cutscene depicting their inevitable escape to mug another day.
I’ve never been more emotionally affected by a VLDL video before. From the accuracy of his blade not being bloody only 2 seconds after killing an NPC, to the inevitable realization of what going to happen to Bernard and hoping that he respawns once arrested and hanged. All ending with his best friend, the only friend he’s ever known and spent every living minute with (that he can remember), walking away from him and leaving him like trash on the road to Whiterun.
My favorite one on the "tragedy" aspect is still overly enthusiast Greg's mission duplicate realizing he's just a clone of quest-giver and seller Greg and so he's about to disappear to nothingness as soon as the player finish the quest (which he's about to do)
@@gvasilyev84 I remember that in bg1 the chief Xvar came asking you in rage why you were killing every one in there. That they've done nothing to the hero.
Bernard was never the same after that day. No longer lusting for gold, the trauma having stolen his very voice, he wandered the lands of Azerim, searching for peace. Until, one day, he ran into a fisherman, relaxing on the shores of a river and spouting his random NPC lines. "Nothing as peaceful as a good day of fishing," he said, and, "A great day for fishing here on the river." Long Bernard spent learning at his side. "Fishing's the least greedy profession there is. Catch a fish, there's your dinner. Don't catch a fish, there's a nice relaxing day. It's all good." Until, one day, Bernard came to the fishing hole to find the fisherman murdered, what little gold he'd had missing. He'd been mugged. Bernard had never again wished to use the skill he'd learned at killing, but so enraged was he that he sought out the adventurer who had done in the old fisherman and mugged him right back. He buried the old fisherman with his own old armor and sword and the adventurer's gold, for he knew not what had or hadn't belonged to the fisherman. Then, he took up the old man's fishing pole, swearing never to kill again. He wandered for years, shunning violence, seeking only the peace of fishing, and, slowly, learning to speak again. When he returned to Honeywood, none even recognized him, and, unable to force out more than a few lines he'd practiced over and over, he could not introduce himself. They called him Baelin allowed him to settle near the town and fish at its lake, and he is known to be the most peaceful and cheerful man in town, if perhaps a touch dim. But, sometimes Greg gives him a look, like he remembers, and now he knows, or at least suspects. Baelin isn't sure whether or not that's a good thing, if Greg is suspicious or proud that he's overcome his past. Either way, is probably good that someone has some idea what he's capable of, in case something breaks in him and he kills again. Because, sometimes, with the right - or wrong - motivations... Well, he is no longer moved by gold, but by peace, and sometimes... Well, the old man was right that there isn't anything _more_ peaceful than a day of fishing. However, some things are just _as_ peaceful, and the grave is the only one a person can be forced into. Until, his hand is forced, however, it's a "great day for fishin', innit? Hueh huh!" (Yes, I realize this Baelin prequel ignores the fact that he's actually walked past Bernard before.)
Always love a return to the old Honeywood setting with the muggers and Greg outside his hut handing out quests. Feels like the show never forgets its roots.
Or maybe Adam respawns and actually go comfort Bernard, saying "It's okay, I'm right here." But then Bernard notices something, the camera zooms out, showing both living Adam and dead Adam. And so Bernard gets into a bigger existential crisis.
He's not a mugger anymore, he has elevated, or fallen (depends how you look at it) to a murderer. He is now on his own. He has now two options, he can look for a redemption, or accept the murderer path and become solo.

I am truly amazed at the top shelf level of writing for this show. I must have seen a dozen or more of just these muggers (There is even a 30min comp of the 'stupid muggers'). All they are doing is mugging, yet still his makes me laugh. They've tried to mug a chicken, a dragon, a cart, and even each other. He purposefully **not** thought that no matter how much gold was there, no amount will make up for what he's done. After Ben left, Bernard first droped the coins, like he wouldn't ever have the heart to spend them. Then he let go of all of his mugging job, which is what DEFINES him, by dropping his sword to the ground. Those simple things make the viewer very informed about what's probably going to happen then. Mugger has taken the dark path event quest is now active. Either turn the dark mugger back to the good path alot of exp and alot of rep or turn him in to the nearest guard to collect stained red gold that was found next to the body of the innocent victim.

Or for Adam to respawn and loot his own corpse while Rowan the mugger cried revealing he left his valuables at the bank expecting to die to heal up.
