I'm a business owner and I totally agree with what you said! I had Magento 1 with a theme from Envato and to be honest Envato customer service interface with their 3rd party developers sucked. If the person that developed the theme just dropped off the face of the earth Envato didn't stand behind anything and you were just left out in the cold. Your only option was to try to get another theme or pay someone to fix the problems. Now I'm on Magento 2 and I'm not even using a theme. It's all custom code.

Yea, definitely avoid these themes like the plague!

Pizza is a great metaphor for so many things in programming ^.^

Haha... I guess it is! I'm sure I can create some videos using the pizza metaphor for object oriented programming.

Hi Mark! Would you recommend to create a custom theme based off of luma? Or what are your thoughts of using hyva for a B2B ecommerce store? Thank you!

      Hi Taja,
I'd definitely recommend building a theme off of Blank instead of Luma. Blank is very similar to Luma, but allows for more in-depth customizations, and without some of the bloat that Luma comes with. If you did want to dive a bit deeper into the Magento theming layer, I'd recommend checking out my Magento 2 Power Theming course as it goes into this in much more detail. More info on that at m.academy/courses/magento-2-power-theming/
As far as Hyvä goes, I like it on all fronts, as long as you don't need deep integration with the Magento module ecosystem. While it can work with third-party modules and does have some support, you may spend a bit of time customizing third-party themes for Hyvä and your store. But yes, big fan 👍

If you know 100,000% that your website will always fit into the mold of the theme and you will never ever ever ever ever (did I say ever?) ever want to customize ever in the slightest, then sure maybe go for it.
Otherwise, speaking as someone who’s had to deal with the absolute ballistically hot messes left behind by coders who decided “the easy route” and realized too late the hard truth …. it’s a baaaaad idea.
Hire a good coder to do it for you. Yeah, the price tag is scary, but you WILL end up paying LESS for a job done right (pun not wholly intended).

I strongly believe you should really never use these templates, even if it will 100% fit into a mode. Maybe to prop up a demo that you'll later throw out?
If you can't afford it or the time, you probably shouldn't be on Magento in the first place. It's not meant to be a drag & drop instant setup. If you are budget restricted and/or need that tech, go with Shopify, 100%.

@@MarkShust Fair enough. It’s the hard truth some store owners don’t want to hear, but there it is. You get what you pay for. If you’re not willing or able to pay for it, then Magento is probably not for you
