If I was a Lululemon employee who was fired for "engaging" shoplifters.. I would immediately shoplift from the store the next day. If the company cares less about their own employees than the clowns stealing from them.. why wouldn't I just steal their whole inventory and re-sell it online? I've been saying this for several years now. The store I work part time for, Ollie's Bargain Center of Pennsylvania, has this policy. We are not allowed to say anything to the shoplifters, even when directly seeing them steal. Also, not allowed to call the police and let them deal with it, either. Recently, a man OD'ed in the parking lot, and a person the guy was with had just stolen a drone from our store, and was found inside their vehicle. The police asked the manager if they wanted to press charges for the theft. Manager said NO. This just causes the shoplifters to spread the word. It's very frustrating because when I am at work, I am constantly being told by my superiors, to follow suspected shop lifters. I waste my entire shift chasing and following them around the store. WHY??? If I can't prevent the theft, why should I care? It's very frustrating when you CAN stop them, but aren't allowed.

Well, a person filming the thieves could make themself a target for physical harm. The footage could be used in court, as if it matters, or just be seen as something that offends or annoys the thieves.
It's more about liability. If the store tells the people they shouldn't do it, then the employee records or confronts the criminal and gets hurt or killed, the company can say "we told them to just let them steal, that violated policy" and can not be sued. PLUS, they can pretend it is about this DEI crap and get points with the woke crowd.

My boyfriend works at a U.K. shop called CO OP and he has 3+ shoplifters per day. The same ones over and over again. The shop workers have been told not to interfere with them. He has wrestled products out of the hands of thieves a few times. They refuse to get security. So it’s the pissed off customers that fight back. Countless times thieves have been hit/pushed or drop kicked by genuine customers. The other day a Deliveroo driver punched a shoplifter in the face, they dropped their stuff and ran off. My bf is asked for police statements on a weekly basis, even though they never do anything. The other day my bf interrupted a thief and the thief racially abused him (my bf is white) then said my bf was racist for interfering (he was black) so my bf asked his black work colleague to help. The police then cared because race was involved. The U.K. police only care about racism, not theft.
The situation is so bad. So true that idiot brainwashed police only take notice when it’s got a race or lgbt nonsense element. So tragic.
Be careful, your bf's company may be threatened by the officials for calling the police too many times (nuisance calls), just like what happened in California.

If the store tells the people they shouldn't do it, then the employee records or confronts the criminal and gets hurt or killed, the company can say "we told them to just let them steal, that violated policy" and can not be sued. PLUS, they can pretend it is about this DEI crap and get points with the woke crowd.

I can tell you it’s natural to go after someone when you see someone stealing stuff from YOUR store. I spent 60-70 hrs a week in that store, it was my home.
