I am a retired law enforcement officer, with 22 years on the job.
Thieves are the worst and most irredeemable criminals. Once a thief, always a thief. They have zero remorse, and truly believe they are entitled to steal from others. They are the same class which never actually works, and devotes it's energy to defrauding the welfare system with bogus "disabilities" , they are lazy, and are masters at playing the whole sympathy game when they get caught.
I retired to the same small town I grew up in. Over a year ago, a thieving drifter made his way to our town. He didn't stay long. One day in Wally World, he tried to snatch an elderly woman's purse. Four adult men tackled him as he ran out of the store and beat him senseless. When the police showed up, the thief tried the usual game of oh woe is me, he wasn't buying it either. He was arrested and went to jail.

That's the way to do it. I live in a small city after 25 years in Los Angeles. So much cleaner here, so much less general tension, I don't have to always be looking over my shoulder for something that might go wrong, or wonder if there's a second exit to this shop. L.A., and multiple places I grew up, people would steal anything that wasn't nailed down. Leave a jacket over the back of your chair for even a minute while you got up to get the meal you ordered and it would be gone. And especially if you were the wrong race at the wrong time, you could count on nobody to help or care. I'm so glad I'm out of the above-ground sewer people turn big cities into.

And the icing on the cake is that in NYC honest people cannot be armed. You can only get a gun carry permit if you are a security guard or a retired police officer. Everyone else is just out of luck. Only the criminals are allowed to have the guns, so you can forget about defending yourself. Just give the criminals whatever they want, and if they don't kill you then call the cops and wait an hour for them to show up. When they show up, they will "write a report" and nothing more. And even if the police somehow stumble on to the criminal, they will never be prosecuted because "the prisons are overcrowded, and we don't want to ruin the criminal's life." This doesn't happen in ALL big cities, it only happens in big cities where the voters tolerate it. Places where virtue signalling is more important than public safety.

Normally I agree with "you voted for this" but I believe they became a sanctuary city when we had a closed boarder. Before the president was letting them cross illegally and then giving them free bus rides to the sanctuary city. It was designed for the natural sanctuary needs that would filter through a flawed but in place system. That system is gone and they are literally bussing them there by the thousands. the same rules don't apply from when they voted that nonsense in.

I will bless those who are satisfied with My words; surely they will be the pillars that will raise the top of My kingdom, surely they will have an incomparable reward in My house, and no one will be like them. Have you accepted the blessings given to you? In the midst of darkness, you will certainly not lose the light that guides you. Surely you will be the master of all beings. The sad thing is it's a deeper issue. The cost of living is so high that people are resorting to crazy stuff like this. I don't agree with it. Companies need to pay their employees more. The cost of living should never exceed someone's wage. But our government doesn't seem to care about that lately. People that work in more than one or two jobs now because of it. And from what I heard New York is so overcrowded and overpriced I'm not surprised that this is happening there. On another note people need to be more aware of their surroundings and not tune everything out all the time because that's how these thieves are capitalizing on their naivety

Had a kid steal my backpack from my car. There was a computer and loaded pistol in it. I chased him a block before he ran into a dead end parking lot. I was on the phone with the police as I was looking into the lot. I saw a full size bus start moving and heard a crunching popping sound and thought the bus had just crushed my computer. Thankfully it was just the thug.
Sticking out from under the rear wheel was his hand holding on to my pistol.
The lady driving the bus said she saw him run past her but didn't see him go under her bus.
She told police that when her front tire went over a bump, she thought it was just a speed bump, but when she saw no speed bump and felt the rear tires hit something, she stopped.
Police called her a hero because it looked like he was either going to ambush me or car jack someone. (because he pulled out the pistol)
Kid was identified by fingerprints. 16 years old and 42 felony arrests in the last 6 years. Was a suspect in 3 different home invasion/murder cases and currently had 11 felony warrants out for his arrest. Yet he was still allowed to attend a public school.
The kids family tried to sue her for running over him. They said she was a racist Asian and did it on purpose. Then they went after the bus company...both times they failed to win.
Then they tried to bring up a case against me saying his death was my fault because I chased him. Also stating that it was race related because I'm white. Also a failed case.
I'm happy to report that my laptop was not crushed and it only cost me $65 to have it professionally cleaned
The bus driver and I are still friends to this day. We went to Japan to visit her family and she got a small tattoo on her right foot of a squashed frog with tire marks across it with the word "Oops, heehee"
The last thing that went through his mind was....a GOODYEAR.
