The Modified Straight Up Nail is killer! I have tried Drambuie in a lot of cocktails, but this is the first that I really love:)

Best Drambuie cocktail. One winters night, one open fire, one glass, pour said liquor into glass.... relax

The Rusty Nail isn't a sophisticated cocktail but it is a glorious one. I think you are doing it a disservice.

Maybe. Drinks are subjective and all are worth trying, I just don't think I'd recommend someone buy a bottle of Drambuie just to make a Rusty Nail. Unless that's your thing and then more power to you. It's popular and well known for a reason.

My wife has always liked the OG version a lot. I think it’s fine. We normally use Black Label.

I make mine with Glenfiddich 14. Tried it once just to see, and liked it enough to keep using it.

I had the same reaction as you with the rusty nail. First sip, well, meh, not much here. Then it started to grow on me. I like squeezing a lemon peel (expressing a lemon??) over it. That hint of lemon really does wonders for this drink. And yeah, I just bought a new bottle of Drambuie today as mine is starting to get low. hahahaha!

The addition of lemon makes a lot of sense and is a good call. I know people love this drink and I respect that, but it's just missing that one thing for me. Please come back and share any other great drinks you come across with the new bottle of Drambuie!

I think it actually works better with a Islay. Or a blended scotch with an Islay float on top.

I prefer to mix out the drambuie with Benedictine, it's like a B&B but much better... depending on the scotch of course.

A star walks into a black hole but doesn't seen phased. The black hole then turns to the star and says, "I don't think you understand the gravity of this situation."

No one orders rusty nails at work. I have the Drambuie, none of the bartenders knew what to do with it; so I suggested the Rusty Nail.
Two months 😂⏱️😃no even one. 😢

One day someone will order it!

That recipe has a lot more Drambuie than a Rusty Nail needs unless you don't like Dewar's then go for it. With something I like like Cutty Sark Prohibition, 2 oz scotch and 1/4 to 1/2 oz Drambuie is great. Drambuie like Coke is great for burying the taste of crappy whisky but there is no need to drown out a decent one by overdosing with Drambuie.

(That ice cube is too big: a) the cold will inhibit the flavour notes; b) the excessive melt water will again dilute the flavour profile.)
