I just tor down my gearbox today. The bearing are fine. The bottom seal was packed with whatever found it way into it..i will be ordering new LSOT00133 after this post. thanks for your efforts. really helped
Thanks for sharing. Be aware that adding or removing gaskets of varying thickness will affect the mesh between the gears resulting in a change in the root gap and backlash, which may take it out of spec.
very good video I have this exact same gear box and even same color. however the vertical shaft will not release and come out of the housing. do you have to remove the horizional shaft first which dosent appear so in the video.
I got one somebody lost the nut,so they welded the blade pan on. If it was not for the fact that the deck needs massive amounts of rust cut out and replaced I would buy new parts. Sometimes farmers come up with very stupid ideas. My buddy bought it at a farm auction and i bought it from him. So its getting hauled to the scrap yard.
The tubular spacer between the two bearings on the vertical output shaft is badly designed. It's a plain tube with no holes in the wall so it means gear oil trapped between the outside of the tube and the gearbox case cannot circulate. When I overhauled my gearbox I cut 4 slots about 25mm (approx 1inch) long and 13mm (approx 1/2 inch) wide in the bottom of the tube at 90 degrees to each other. This allows the oil to pass either side of the tube, meaning all of the oil in the gearbox circulates around, maximising the life of the oil as well as the gearbox.
@@sweetpigfarm3645 Hi yes, you could drill 4 holes close to the bottom of the tube and that would work too. In fact I did just that then used a hacksaw to cut up from the bottom of the tube to the holes to make them into slots. Slotting means you get full circulation of all the oil without any place for oil to settle. BTW thanks for posting the great video.
Greetings, I accidentally came across you video and I want to thank you for taking your time to post it. I have a question for you. My uncle is a farmer and he has almost identical New Idea No. 452 brush hog. His problem: two gears inside the gearbox are all torn up, pretty much destroyed. Everything else seems to be in great condition. Do you happen to know or have an idea where we could procure the replacement gears? I spent 3 days searching the internet and practically zero leads. It seems that New Idea Farm Equipment has shutdown in 1999, and many of its products are now collector's items. Thanks for any info you may have.

Thanks so much for making this video. Very helpful
can also stuff bread down in there and hammer to get bearings out. works great
Yes a classic one. My stale bread goes to the pigs though lol

The vertical can come out of bottom itself. It's pressed in
220 in u can see how I removed it

@@txengineer5250 cool maybe just some drilled holes would be enough?

Oh man..there are random Farm sites that still had parts. It might be easier to find a used gear box on eBay or something
Tractor supply or agri supply etc.sells new boxes for $200-250 ymmv.
