Is Destiny 2 Into the Light Worth Your Time? - Destiny 2
On April 9th, 2024 Destiny players, any player, for free, got a brand new Horde Mode, Whipser of the worm craftable with changes to the exotic mission, and . Alongside this there is 6 iconic weapons, the ability to skip the new light quest for players just hopping in to get rid of the slog it can be, character customization changes, and a free name change. This is all free and this is all only in week 1, with the pantheon, 6 more weapons, outbreak perfected returning, and pvp maps. So this video should probably just end here right? It’s a resounding YES from the destiny community if “into the light is worth your time?” Comments like “we’re so back”. I don’t think there is even room for argument that if you like Destiny at all and or liked the game in the past AT ALL that you shouldn’t play this. Into the light is the best content drop since the 30th anniversary that Destiny has had. It’s better than almost all seasons and carries with it such a player friendly punch that you’d be questioning if this was the same bungie from a few months ago selling starter bundles and getting the whole community stirred up. On top of this, Bungie came out swinging with the final shape Vidoc which was totally unexpected. I think I’ll keep the focus on into the light, but that one blew me away with new subclass, new enemy race, mixing and mashing supers, and the exotic class item busting up the balance of the game even more. The final shape looks RAW! But this Into the light thing also got my brain asking one question and it’s not meant to be this cynical mess of a question, more of a common sense one.. Why does it take the near downfall of Destiny to present changes that are finally pro player? Changes that get everyone in the game? Wouldn’t everyone be on the game IF WE JUST GAVE THEM REASONS TO MORE OFTEN? Look, nobody wants to be that guy when everyone is having fun, I have been having SUCH a blast with Into the Light, but if we don’t want bleh bungie to exist then you have to ask these questions and actually be thinking about what you get and why you’re getting it. Part of me wonders why the original final shape didn’t look nearly as good as this? I’m telling you that feedback works, bein a BLEEP isn’t the same as feedback, but feedback works. I will save my overall worries and thoughts after we talk about the meat of the content and reasons you’d want to maybe jump back in or give into the light a shot.

"Why don't they do this more often?" - Agree with you on the whole video, just hypothesizing here: I'm loving Into the Light, but we can't see under the hood. This product required a six month delay to the Final Shape, plus a ton of layoffs and benefit cuts, and probably a lot of crunch, too. You don't throw a hail Mary when you think you're ahead.

@@EnvisionedBlindness Bungie thought they were ahead when they gave us Lightfall, that's why they didn't throw the hall Mary. After Lightfall bombed and the seasons didn't make the sale, Bungie decided to go big with Into the Light and Prismatic.

I would wish that if price gouging and asking for money for every thing and every event and expansion isn’t working then maybe calm down on the money grubbing and maybe just make a good full game. They shouldn’t be going under at all the way they make money from the addicts .

The company is clearly in trouble and I don’t feel like sinking time in a game that I fear will be shut down or stop getting updates soon. If they survive to make more contents post final shape then I’ll come back but until then, I’m not touching the game.

yeah its cool, i think a horde mode is perfect for destiny, i love that i can finally change my warlock's look, more reprised exotic missions is dope, etc
but at the same time I cant help but think "why are we just now getting things that honestly should have already been in the game"
Guardian customization is only exciting because its a basic feature that should've been in the game already. Horde mode isnt even new content, its recycled environments with an OK gamemode thrown on top (its more of a tower defense game than a horde game too). And while 3 new pvp maps is cool, but only feels like a big deal because of how deprived PVP has been of new content.
This update is a step in the right direction, but honestly feels like its too little too late in a lot of ways.
And in the back of my mind all i can think of is "we're gonna get a couple good updates and then they're gonna go right back to how it was before"
yep, i told my friend to wait to buy final shape, until its been out for a few weeks, and if its really worth it or not.. some of the changes like, using what ever ability you want from any subclass sound super dope, but i have a feeling its going to very limiting on release and will expand on it update after update.
Good thing final shape is the perfect jumping off point then. if final shape is good, enjoy it, complete it all, then stop. Then you won't have to worry about them going downhill after.
That clip of the no land beyond firing in super slow motion needs to mean BUNGIE IS BRINGING IT BACK.

My mentality towards Into The Light as it sits is a good thing for the health of the game. The Final Shape reveal was also very good looking, but I'm not going to let the hype cloud my judgement for now
Falling guillotine is very unique now with double damage perks. Im happy to see the the bequest that bequest shall leave as falling guillotine returns from its grave.
The Black Armory Founder's Shaders (Rasmussen Clan, House of Mayrin & Satou Tribe) look great on the reprised weapons.
My favorite soundtrack level has returned. But I think I had a good run. Guardian down.

well also player engagement... they freaked out when people weren't playing there game... well also nobody buying final shape..... i belive what they worked on for these extra few months was this new subclass mix and match system,,, witch honestly, more custimizations on your build to make it uniqe im all for,, but i have no doubt its going to be a very limiting system.

the only thing thats interesting to me are the subclass changes with the exotic class item, but im not sure if i'll come back to play it.
i told my friend to wait 3 weeks after release after the hype died down to see peoples unfiltered opinions on it, and to know if the dlc is worth it or not.
I preordered it for all 3 platforms forever ago. Because the game is dope and has a ridiculous amount of stuff to do. Unmatched gunplay and game mechanics. My wife and I have a blast running raids and dungeons. There’s not a single game out that gives you this much stuff to do as a fps.
In the TWID, they say that both Onslaught and the reprised exotic missions will stay. The reprised missions will be moved to the Legends tab, Onslaught as a separate Vanguard Ops playlist
It'll be worth my time when the time gating is finished. Not playing for a few weeks.

@@Cappy_Cat Why do y'all care that a few weapons are missing. You have a whole week to focus on 6 weapons. Then you have a whole week to farm the next 2 weapons. Like you say, it takes a long time to farm for the god rolls so why do you need all the weapons at once when you're gonna be focusing on 1 or 2 at a time because of the attunement thing

It’s the prices that I have the biggest problem with. If the DLC’s were half the price like they should be, more people would probably play. But I know a lot of people that are tired of dumping too much money for little content and left a few years back.

I've been in a state where I don't feel good about playing games, even Destiny, it's rly hard to find the motivation to do quests, I even passed on the skimmer. I bought a new mic so maybe that's my motivation to play more.

Haven't played much (not because I dislike it by the way, but because I'm wrapping up some relic weapons in FFXIV so I'm more available). If anything, this mode reignited a desire to play again, I feel bad for doubting the devs honestly.
Admittedly, I feel like a hypocrite for pre-ordering now (a friend talked me into it after a few hours of Onslaught, he also said he'd reimburse me the $50 if the expansion didn't live up to expectations). I'll be getting the first episode for the standard edition from what I read, so Bungie has until June 28th to persuade me to buy the rest (June 28th is Dawntrail early access, the meat and potatoes for my Summer, basically). I'm keeping my expectations realistic but I'm going in with a bit more hope now than before.
I'm also glad you aren't referring to someone like me as a hater. Yes there were assholes hating just to hate, but my harsh criticism came from a place of desire to see the game improve. I started playing D1 back in 2013(?), so I was a young teenager at the age of 13. I loved the world. I'm 24 now, a person who's nearing their mid-20s, so imagine the morale loss I felt after Lightfall which launched when I was 23. It struck hard, I fear for games I love going bad
I honestly adore all the changes as someone who used to play Destiny religiously. Used to, being a key word. The lay-offs, the money grubbing, and the absolutely ENORMOUS file the game is really rubbed me the wrong way and I don’t think I’ll go back.
However! I sincerely hope all the New Lights and Old Guardians have fun with The Final Shape and Lightfall. If you need me, I’ll be happily playing Warframe. Wish y’all well!

Yeah, but those old ones are power capped, irrelevant and lack the new perk pool 9n the updated versions, and of course they're shaded different. The weapons start to drop like crazy too.
Anyway, as someone who had all of the old versions myself, I highly recommend getting the new ones 👏

It's a lot of recycled stuff with a fancy coat of paint. Hell, even the dialogue in onslaught is recycled.
My brother in Christ you get a great game mode that you've been asking for for ages, with the guns you've asked to return with refreshed perks and cooler skins, yet you still find things to bitch about. You've lost your love for the game, go play something else.

Tbh, the way the content gets released feels less like their "cornered" and more annoyed. They have enough money to fuel their pockets for the rest of their lives. They basically said it themselves: they don't care anymore and are ditching the company once TFS and Marathon come out. If they were truly concerned about the company's profits, they would never have dipped so low again after CoO. They are using this as bait to get us to buy TFS then dip when they get the money resurgence. Honestly, I'll play into the light since it's free, and I actually do like it; however, I'm still not buying TFS until videos drop and I can see it's improvements first. I think that's how most people are going about it anyway.

I’m playing after a 8+ month break, it’s fun for now. But I can still see all the issues with pvp that made me walk away the first time, I’m a 1.65kd player, not the best but I atleast know what’s going on.

It’s ok , really good dps option but destiny has never been hurting for good dps options . Elsie’s rifle? It’s good I’m not going to lie , but it’s practically void messenger. Succesion is cool , minus the fact I have 7 different god roll snipers in my vault “just in case “ they are good for dps one day .
A lot of the weapons are just nostalgia bait . The mode itself is ok . It’s fun but feels like it’s desperately lacking a missing piece . The extra time gates for the exotic quests , their unlocked perks and the other 6 weapons makes this promising return to destiny into a meh I see why I left
The tldr is no. I’m tired of giving my time and money to companies who don’t respect either.

Honestly this is really good for my friend. He just started with the like free stuff from epic games a while ago. And obviously he doesnt have anything. So a free update that brought him to 1810. Pretty good weapons to farm so he also gets legendary shards for what good theyre used for till theyre gone. And its something im not gonna be bored playing with.
I hope they bringing more "banned weapons" ITL loot pool after Final Shape. I love this new game mode but I don't wanna this thing be a one time thing after we got the god roll each weapon that we currently have right now.
I'm a single player, I have terrible luck finding decent groups, I hate matchmaking. I don't care for the destiny companion app, I had actual help like once, and that was on the whisper quest, and really it was more me trying to catch up with everyone else. So from that perspective who's played this on and off since D1, but not seriously enough to consider myself a pro gamer on this, it still sounds like a lazy attempt at keeping our attention. I think it's too little too late myself.
If you havent given up just yet, I'd be willing to play with you sometime. LFG groups are horrendously impatient, but I've met some of the nicest people on in my life on it, young and old.

I would love to play destiny 2 again but my internet is not good enough I don't have unlimited data like I used to and dlc is too expensive but Bungie might be able to come back from almost extrection

I absolutely hated the whisper, several things I needed to look up a guide to figure out where to go as the game does a poor job of indicating that and there’s several jumps that are almost impossible with my character

Now it’s probably the best time if your looking to play Final Shape, since into the light gives you a gift box that brings you up to light with weapons and armor. The new dungeons were very good as well if your into that
I’d probably say so, I highly recommend playing for at least the seasonal story before final shape
Wait until after the time gate. Bungie will increase the drop rates and you'll have wasted less time attaining the weapons you've already grinded for in the past.
Elsie's Rifle is baller. In PvP especially. Even pve it's decent with the right roll.

Elsie's rifle is arguably the best legendary pulse in the game for pvp. 100 percent the best energy pulse. Only competiton is messenger.

bout ur loot section, stranger rifle is p much the best in slot pulse (pvp), and yes edge transit is best in slot heavy gl with better dps/total dmg than the likes of apex predator, recluse is ok (bit meh nowadays tbh), and yes ur right bout hung jury.... Idfk whey they reintroduce it for the 4th time.
so i haven't Played this game but if i buy the end game version will i get previous DLC free or do i have to buy every DLC ? there is not much info and to buy it all is just not affordable
It’s upper management… Sony has even said recently that bug is just isn’t held accountable and run well and that needs to change… I got optimism from bungie in the future for sure

The changes sound great, but I feel like they took too long, I waited for a long time for the game to improve, but now I don't even feel like trying it anymore. I hope things get better for everyone still in the game.
Good analysis as always, evanf1997. You can be cynical/skeptical and enjoy the update at the same time. You don't have to choose. :)
Destiny was always a fun game, I just never thought the weekly/seasonal treadmill was fun, and I still hate the sunsetting/DCV. It's why I never came back. True it keeps the player count up when you're always doing something every week / season, but there is a finite number of times I can to do anything before it gets old. Bungie knows that and they know they have to do something new once in a while. thanks to the DCV and sunsetting, they can just bring back old good things once in a while for the shot in the arm the game needs, and bring in some new stuff. It's a formula that works.
So, this update is probably a good one. It reminds me of the April Update in TTK (April 2016), which basically was a free update with QOL changes, some new content and it laid the framework for the rest of D1. It was awesome. Hope you Guardians enjoy it.

Companies need to learn to make fun content as a method to encourage traffic rather than grindy content to encourage traffic.
I'm nearly maxed on everything in Helldivers 2 and I have no reason to slow down. Reason? It's fun. simple.
Real. I'm over level 50 in HD2 and have everything unlocked aside from a few cosmetics on the warbonds, yet I'm still playing to help progress the story and fight for democracy.

I started trying this game again after playing it back around 2016 , i quit because of the greed, and im really apprehensive if this is worth my time at all, sincr im seeing so many negative comments and massive grind for reskins.
I skipped the new light in the brand new account. It locked the vangaurd strike for me. Can't access it.
I had played since the start of Destiny but stopped about 6 months ago. There has been nothing to draw me back until now but I am going to jump in for super black because I am that shallow. If I get good rolls on guns I’ve already had, that is fine. I hope it is fun.

I don't understand some of the weapons that they choose, weapons like elsie's rifle, forbearance and hung jury are weapons too recent to consider putting them at the event. There's a lot of loved weapons that never returned to the game like perfect paradox , 21% delirium, bygones, revoker, Hawthorne's Field Forge Shotgun or the alone as a god sniper. I don't agree with the chosen loot. But hey, they had to drop something at least.
You'll have to pay for those again. They know what they're doing and apparently it doesn't take much to hype up they pay pigs.

They lost me midway through season of witch. Which also coincided with me changing teams from Xbox to Ps. So even if I wanted to get back in I'd either have to boot up the Xbox and buy the preorder and an additional $60 just for XBL. OR. Buy everything all over again and start completely fresh on PS5. That's a tall order to get back on the wagon. Think I'll enjoy from the back seat. Carry on guardians.

Honest question for people calling it nostalgia bait: are you choosing not to play because of bungie’s mistakes over the last year or because you don’t enjoy Into the Light in general? Or are you playing despite how you feel about it? Genuinely curious
I’m not that interested because they always do this and I’m getting sick of it. Take things out of the game then put it back in and claim “new content”. Onslaught is alright, but a lot of the weapons aren’t that great plus they’re reissues and/or weapons still acquirable now, so what’s the point? I’m playing a little bit but I’m mostly done with Destiny - just finishing out the main story and we’ll see where I go from there.
