Chris Kikomeko book writter and researcher explains why Captain Ongodia was key player in the 1966 coupe d'etat: I have had access to the former classified GSU secrets at archives when still at NARO in Entebbe. This is what they say. It's a long story and for you to know how your father got in it bear with me to tell it all. On 1st Feb 1966 Executive Premier Obote went for a tour of the north of Uganda. A plan that began in 1965 but got suspended to vote him out of power began that same time.On Friday 4th Feb MP for Mityana, the Acholi born Daudi Ochieng moved a motion in Parliament implicating criminality in the Premier and other Ministers plus Deputy Army Commander Idi Amin. So President Muteesa(Ceremonial) ordered Army Commander Brigadier Shaban Opolot to send in troops to arrest Obote. Obote was tipped off and fled to Mbale in the home of House Speaker Nurendra Patel. The vote in the House against Obote was unanimous except one man Kakonge who voted no. So Obote was on his way out democratically. Brigadier Shaban Opolot ordered several platoons in Kampala to move around and cause panic and they did.By Monday 7th Uganda Army was moving in tracks around to cause anxiety. Officers sent to get Obote failed to get him and President Muteesa panicked. Then Muteesa called Chief Justice Udo Udoma a Nigerian but was on leave then asked acting Chief Justice on advise on how to call in British troops to take charge as Obote was tried for his criminality. They advised him not to try since Uganda had gained Independence and so KAR disbanded. Muteesa called British Ambassador Hunt in Kampala who told him the same. House adjorned that Friday and Patel went to Mbale the following weekend returning to Kampala on Sunday 13th Feb driving Obote in his official car secretly direct to Entebbe State House. Following day Obote guarded by his own GSU men and Special force unit not under Opolot but under his Deputy Amin denied any criminality
Accepted a commission of Inquiry to investigate the alleged criminality and appointed 3 judges 2 from Kenya and 1 from Tanzania.
That approach defeated Muteesa's approach and the coup was abandoned. Obote then knew that his own cabinet was behind the move in Parliament and so decided to arrest the ring leaders. They were arrested at a cabinet meeting on Parliament Buildings on Tuesday 22nd Feb. On that day Obote learnt that President Muteesa and Brigadier Shaban Opolot had planned another coup that time by the military not Parliament.
Brigadier Shaban Opolot ordered Lt.Zadok Ariko at Mbuya to start a mutiny of his 4th Batallion. Amin had also moved in troops from Jinja Garrison on Obote's side, Zaddocks orders were rejected at Mbuya by Private Ojera and Maj. Arach (Insurbodination) Captain Michael Odong arrested Ojera
Opolot move failed. Obote swang into action asking Amin to cook up an assassination plot against him implicating Brigadier Opolot, So Amin went to Mbuya on Thursday 24th Feb and asked Captain Douglas Ongodia and Captain Francis Erima to claim that Brig. Shaban Opolot ordered them to block Obote at Abayita Ababiri on Entebbe highway to arrest or kill him if he resisted. Amin told the 2 that Entebbe Battalion was at their disposal and Lt. Anguram was to head operation in Entebbe.
Captain Ongodia and Erima refused to lie and drove away from Amin's sight. They drove away in a Fiat car. Captain Ongodia had a grenade, a pistol and a knife. Amin was furious His juniors had disobeyed him
Amin called an impromptu parade at Mbuya at which Captain Ongodia and Erima did not show up, Amin told the parade that Captain Ongodia and Erima were not around because they were being used to overthrow Obote!!!!
Ongodia returned to Mbuya same day at 1 pm and was told Amin was looking for him.
Captain Ongodia rushed to his quarters packed a few things and family members and drove them to Entebbe Officers Mess, Captain Ongodia then drove to Makindye President's lodge where President Muteesa and Opolot were stationed. Also Erima was there Captain Ongodia told Opolot all about Amin's treachery plot they had turned down. Brigadier Opolot ordered Captain Ongodia and Erima to return to Mbuya and they left Makindye but instead drove to Entebbe Officers Mess, when they arrived in Entebbe they found Flight Lt. Ephraim Guweddeko and 2nd Lt. Sam Anguram who wanted to know what was happening at Mbuya
After ensuring that his family was intact, Ongodia asked Erima to drive to Mbuya and surrender to Amin and so they did so On arrival at Mbuya Captain Aburek Douglas Ongodia and Captain Erima we're indeed arrested Amin told Obote that the two had been arrested and so no mutiny could arise Premier Obote then went on National wide Radio and announced a coup, He had overthrown Muteesa and William Nadiope and took over all powers even suspended the 1962 constitution.
Opolot and Muteesa were still at Makindye and could not believe it.
They summoned top officers to Makindye President's Lodge and they sped there, Shops closed in town. The Commander in Chief Muteesa with Army Commander Brigadier Shaban Opolot At Makindye. On 25th Feb at Jinja Lt. Joachim Emma Mukhwana Kahuka led a mutiny among his RECCE platoon to confront pro Amin troops returning from Kampala. But Amin avoided the return for things to cool and Emma gave up. OBOTE AND AMIN WON, MUTEESA AND OPOLOT LOST. But history has buried all this and simply blames Obote alone🤷‍♂️. I have had access to the former classified GSU secrets at archives when still at NARO in Entebbe. This is what they say. Dr Obote created a new Pigeon Hole Constitution dated April 1966 passed by Parliament sorrounded by military tanks.

No body owns this world. Leaders come and leaders go as history continues to remind us from time to time. Power is temporal which means it never lasts. after some number of years the same power disappears into thin air and then life goes on and on. such is life as humanity continues to exist.

Semanda Regan nope buganda has never singlehandedly taken on or fought the Uganda government the agreement was to help in getting rid of the former government in return for re enstatement of the kingdom that was abolished due to backstabbing.they wanted to rule the whole country from mengo that’s why it was abolished and by the way even the 1900 agreement was meant for protection of buganda only not Uganda and was signed by only buganda due to cowardice against bunyoro but in return handed over the whole country to the British without knowledge of other kingdoms see how cheap and backward backstabbing works they brought Museveni now they want him out if he goes out the buganda kingdom must also go with him that’s why kabaka cannot say anything against Museveni.

@@MrBab225 Its a lie. First and foremost, when the war had failed, the Kabaka came in and asked the Baganda from Masaka upto Luweero to be part of the guriella war that saw Obote oiut of power. the 1900 uganda agreement was talking about land and nothing much than dat. MENGO never in life had no any intention of rulling the all of Uganda. Obote's attacking of Mengo was him thinking that Muteesa ws behind his chasing him out of power after the then Martin Ocheng presenting to the parliament of Uganda how Obote and Amin were stealing minerals from Congo. This forced Obote to start attacking MENGO vulgarly and MENGO in return asked Obote's govt to vacate the BUganda soil since he wasnt ready to follow the laws that govern the country. Then next thing was Obote attacking the palace. The issue of Bunyoro and Buganda wsnt present at the time Whites came. it ws before the whites came. Buganda and Bunyoro were like Russiaa and America. they both had interests. Bunyoro grabbed land and Buganda as well. territories in the past to be acquired u had to be powerful.

From the get go, Museveni should have relocated and built a brand new capital city elsewhere in the country. Kampala should simply have remained an important commercial city and not the capital just like New York City in USA. In Nigeria, the capital city was transferred from Lagos to Abuja, so it would not have been a far-fetched idea.

It was Mutesa2 who betrayed his fellow Muganda Ben Kiwanuka out of his own pride, and aligned himself to Obote , and suffered the consequence of the betrayal. Let the Baganda read about the KY-UPC alliance. Let the Baganda read about Catholic Kiwanuka, and Mutesa2 Protestant beliefs. It will give them a clue to the union between Obote and Mutesa. Their common enemy was Kiwanuka. As always , any union based on untruth will end in tears for the unlucky one.

The Kabaka was the president at the time, so he requested foreign troops to Uganda without approval from congress, which was against the constitution. So when they sent for his arrest in the palace, his guards shot at the army to give him enough time to escape, as doing things against the constitution is a very serious offense, which could have possibly led to him being in prison for a very long time.

Ugandan Flag is a similar Flag to German Flag , because Uganda was first a German Colony until 1890 when Uganda was exchanged for Helligoland Island by the Great Britain as German preferred to have had Helligoland . Africa is still under the European Colonial Power till to date 2017 and who knows up to when . But Lado Kingdom in Africa is not yet under the European Rule but only Occupied still in Africa since from 15 May 1947 . That is why Lado is still fighting for her Decolonisation issue which is still going on now in the Continent of Africa

To impose upon others a subjective world view on identity and dictate to them how they should identify is to engage in an extraordinary form of arrogance like Obote tried to do. No single tribe signed up to be part of Uganda but the British simply imposed us onto one another and out of nowhere comes this poor excuse of a leader from primitive Akokoro thinking he could reengineer society, culture and identity well, he failed miserably and someone should have told him that unity hinges on mutual interests and mutual respect and not coercion and coerced unity doesn't last the once powerful USSR is a case in point so is former Yugoslavia
