- Bokator, or more formally, L'bokator (Khmer: ល្បុក្កតោ) is a Khmer martial art that includes weapons techniques. One of the oldest existing fighting systems in Cambodia, oral tradition indicates that bokator or an early form thereof was the close quarter combat system used by the armies before Angkor1,700 years ago.

Historically the Thais, Cambodians, Burmese and other south East Asian tribes fought each other. I don’t know which was the original but there are many similarities between styles such as the roundhouse kick and shin blocking. Same as Karate which has many off shoots of the original style. It’s not about who was first or who is best. If you love martial arts it’s all interesting

This is the most ugly lie of the Khmer people. Muay Thai has been recorded in the history of Burma. When one Thai boxer managed to defeat nine Burmese boxers in front of the Burmese king 330 years ago, Bogato only became known in 2013 after the release of the Thai film Ong Bak. Even today, how many Khmer boxers have beaten Thai boxers ?
Muay Boran is this style..... And the Burma people aka Myanmar lethwey fighters are well known for the hardest kickboxing style there is and have won many victory's over Muay Thai fighters....

Since this is an art, so including dance into art is still an art; fighting is the essence of martial, so this is also martial. Therfore this martial art is plausible and valid.
This fight is the real bogator of Cambodia. It's unique. Why do they try to copy and change its style to be Mauythai and Ongbak.

Many Thais are still living in their original home in China today!

It’s so funny reading this, as an American in the west, every Asian nation tries to make the same claim, that they are the first, that they are the best, that everybody else borrowed everything they learned from them, being whoever the particular representative of whatever Asian nation happens to be. We have the same thing here with Native American tribes. Most of the names the tribes give them self have some variation of “the people” or “first people”. Maybe if they were to put their guard up they wouldn’t get hit so many times,doesn’t do anything to improve the longevity or brain’s of a fighter in the long run.
If they don't participate in combat sports then there would be no injury.
And yet I see thousands of westerners and ‘I’m a man coz I got too much testosterone to expand’ commenters saying: yeah you can do your stupid dance and I’ll kick yo ass!’ Basically they’re saying the dance like moves are nothing more than useless showboating. I'm pretty sure I've seen that in other sports. It's just like checking the gloves and gear for imperfections and hidden weapons, checking the cup etc.

Entertaining, but they did not look like professional fighters. More like amateurs getting experience in actual fighting. No idea if the showy movements are part of this style, with the guy in blue dancing to the music, and then red trying to look like Jet Li in the later part of the fight.

Angkor wat collapsed when, Trasak Paem, the slave rebelled against the Varmans and Khmer elitists. Then the Varmans and Khmer elitists fled to Lavo kingdom (Mon people) to establish Ayutthaya. Since then the power of Southeast Asia has always been in Thailand, not Cambodia. After all, Thai people have been sending teachers to teach Cambodian people, amazing Thai cultures such as martial arts, dances, clothes, food, and more!

the dancing was unnecessary. Someone starts dancing during a fight I'm in I hope I will make them regret it. I just take martial arts in general very serious and culture or not to me that kind of behavior is disrespectful and unneeded. I had to stop watching, was hoping for an actual contest of martial arts not a dance off. I hope Bokator is not all like this.

@@moree1983 don't have to kill each other, I have been involved with several "exhibition" matches both mma and boxing, along with outright matches for show off or family festivals and not once did anyone involved felt the need to start breaking out into dance. You can have such events without those kinds of antics.
