I've used the CanoScan Lide scanners for years and loved them, however the 300 sucks. It's stupidly complicated to set up with all its useless bells and whistles that end up as dead ends. It's definitely not a good buy even at its cheap price. I threw mine out. Garbage!
The Mini USB cord is perfect. It's durable , and nobody will ask to borrow it.

I need a scanner to JUST DO PHOTOS, is this SELF contained where I can scan directly to a memory drive?
I doubt it as it is powered using USB from a computer.

No. A4/Letter only.
Scanner+Printer combo is not able to scan if it's out of ink.
The LiDE Canoscans are scanner only. No printing capablity.

If you meant A4 size, then yes.
