I had a big luck of growing a little in a niche fandom space during last 2-3 years (in a fandom that was popular over a decade ago) but sadly at the moment every post I make is getting lost in the algorithm due to unfortunate twitter changes and getting a shadowban over literally nothing. I have no idea what to do... i do trend things? Barely anyone sees it. My niche fandom content? Same thing. My personal original beloved stuff or commissions? It's still the same.
In the end I have decided to move to bluesky and just start again, but this time more closely to not give a fuck about relevancy and just doing my thing 😔
I feel like that's the best we all can do right now :(( algorithms are really messing up artists lately
I spent 2024 chasing trends, trying everything I could to get people to see or interact with my art and every single time (except a few pieces that performed unusually well, always because they were retweeted by a way bigger/popular account) they flopped it felt like a slap. I think the Internet has distorted numbers for all of us. 50 likes is seen as a 'failure' by many, but just stop to picture those 50 likes as 50 people around you. I don't even think I know that many people irl.
Anyway, after a lot of thinking, I came to the conclusion that I want to focus on what makes me happy, and what makes me happy is drawing for myself, the things I like. It's hard sometimes, seeing your pieces without any interactions. It's also sad to think I won't probably be one of those who can earn a living with their art (or perhaps I will, who knows?). But that's fine, because despite anything I managed to draw and create.
If I had to tl;dr: focus more on the journey than on the end result and you should be happier (I guess?). And absolutely don't focus on numbers; that's the first step into 'comparing yourself to others' Hell.
Any way, nice video :> One of the few times TH-cam fyp has worked for good!🧡
I have had such a similar experience, Its a slow and sucky experience. But like you said, I eventually realized why I like art in the first place. I enjoy creating and drawing the things I'm interested in!
Thank you so much for sharing that! Honestly you managed to describe exactly how I feel 😭 it's been a hard journey, but I agree, the best thing to do is to enjoy the journey and keep doing what we love
I do plan on making a WEBTOON comic but right now ❤ I’m still doing what I can learning new techniques about my art style. I sometimes get stressed out a little little bit. And yeah, I’ve seen a lot of TikTok artists make TikTok videos and drawing. And it gets me nowhere. So I’d probably practice that type of art before probably drawing whatever I wanted
Honestly, it's ok to be stressed, don't beat yourself up for it. What matters is that you find a way to keep the motivation to go on with your projects! A webtoon is such an exciting adventure, and I hope you do end up publishing it! (Please let me know if you do, I'd love to read it)
