    I love when the 'toaster' doesn't work or as here they turn around too soon or they don't light up the score properly. It gives the show
    a fun 'thrown together' look.

      "Toaster" 🤣 is the PERFECT word to describe that thing which they can't seem to fix, even though they got new carpeting and a new paint job not too long ago 🙄...

    H/H match update:
    ...
    Today's action:
    Our champion only needs to match one of the six celebs to achieve a tie, but it's not in the stars. She departs after winning two games and $6,200 (but not before giving Gene one last kiss).
    Today's audience match question: "________ Stevenson" (My thoughts: McLean*, Robert Louis, ???)
    The celebs: Brett (Adlai), Richard (McLean), Dick (Robert Louis)
    The choice: McLean
    *MG Trivia: McLean Stevenson appeared on "Match Game '7x" a total of 5 weeks. His first week was episodes 51-55, and his final week will be 1296-1300.
    The answers: Robert Lewis [sic], McLean, Adlai
    The contestant trusted Richard and gets to play for $2,500. After their kiss, I have no doubts about whom she'll pick for her partner in that task...
    This is King Richard's sixth consecutive play and now he's been chosen 91 of the past 97 times. (Charles answered three of the remaining questions and Rosemary Forsyth, Nipsey Russell, and Fannie got one each.)
    Richard has matched 64 of his 146 most recent attempts (43.8%), 47 of his last 103 attempts (45.6%), and 27 of his last 53 attempts (50.9%). His overall success rate is 42.1% and this is his 624th attempt so far.
    For the sake of comparison: Betty has matched 19 of her 38 attempts (50.0%), and Brett has matched 28 of her 68 attempts (41.2%). The other three panelists have never answered a head-to-head question.
    Today's H/H question: "Bowling ________ "
    (I have to toss out my first thought, the rock group "Bowling for Soup." Bowling Ball? Pins? Shoes? Bowling Alley sounds really good. I really want to say Bowling Alley, but I'm going to go with Bowling Ball. I feel like someone is going to say "Ball.")
    Richard takes about four seconds to write and file his answer, so it must be fairly short.
    The contestant says "Pin" (which is the shortest answer possible!), but the audience groans with disappointment. Why? It sounds just as likely as ball to me. All eyes on Richard now...
    Yup, my ESP was working with Richard today. He said "Ball." (I still like Bowling Alley though!)
    No match today.
    ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:
    (Note: An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she has "retired" from the show and her H/H stats are now complete.)
    (Note: For tied scores, I consider the one with the greater number of matches to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.)
    Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts).
    TIE: (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
    TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
    Gary Burghoff - 71.4% (5 wins in 7 attempts).
    TIE: Charles - 50.0% (33 wins in 66 attempts).
    TIE: Betty - 50.0% (19 wins in 38 attempts).
    Fannie - 48.1% (13 wins in 27 attempts).
    Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts).
    Richard - 42.0% (262 wins in 624 attempts).
    Brett - 41.2% (28 wins in 68 attempts).
    Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts).
    *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 963, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, and 910. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!") -- Also, note that episode 849 was never produced.
    I was surprised at how few of his hits Barry Manilow actually wrote. For example, he did not write, "I Write The Songs". It was written by Composer, Lyricist: Bruce Johnston (according to TH-cam).
    • @eddieafterburner
      @eddieafterburner ปีที่แล้ว
      Not unlike Englebert Humperdinck and Tom Jones, for that matter.
      @GizmoFromPizmo ปีที่แล้ว +1
      @@eddieafterburner - I always had thought that Barry Manilow was a prolific song writer - like Paul Simon or a number of other lyricists. But then I started reading the specs on his hits and I was pretty disappointed. He's a talented musician but his stock lost a little value in my estimation. Engelbert Humperdink and Tom Jones, I always knew were doing other people's music. I think they're just vocalists too - unlike Manilow who plays musical instruments.
    "Sick" and "retch" should definitely have been a match. Ira is sometimes very tone deaf with regard to context. But I bet he heard Richard's sly "day drinking" aside loud and clear!
