- I react to the Boombox Classic 2024 5thQuarter Jackson State University Sonic Boom of the South versus Southern University Human Jukebox.
Original Video: • "5th Quarter" Jackson ...
Both bands were outstanding. Southern learned from last year, improved its musicality, and tried to highlight its woodwinds, but was still playing catch-up.
Jackson's overall musicality and arrangements gave them the win. Kevan Johnson is a beast!
Kevan Johnson pen took out Su entire staff✍🏾🔥🔥
Great Job, Sonic BOOM of the South!
I’m a fan of your reviews. Finally someone with an ear for music. 💯
Preciate it! 💪🏿
Jackson State!!! Jackson State!!!!
SU arrangements were mid compared to JSU… they would’ve stacked against any other band but you gotta bring fire against JSU… JSU won
JSU arrangements had so much color and layers. Kevan Johnson is amazing with the pen and the musicians are awesome at execution. SU arrangements sound alike in many respects. They sound good, but lacks in certain musical areas.
Which musical areas if you don’t mind me asking. No shade. Honest question
Last year it was kill Bill this year its in those jeans jsu has that one song that SU has no answer for
I truly think it comes down to a preference. I actually didn’t care for some of.JSU tunes or parts of their arrangements, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion
Fair enough
Definitely preference... They so hyped that jsu using a 40 year old southern formula that they can't contain their excitement.
JSU 1year wonder no matter what, they are a good # 2.
Jay The Maestro,
You taught me through your explanations....listen to all of the instruments and to not get caught up on loud trumpets, which actually over sounds the other instrument.
I'm a JSU Alum.
Did you see the 2nd JSU versus SU battle, in November of 2023?
JSU surprised us all with playing Keisha Coles "Love". That song appeared to handcuff SU.
Another commentator had said, "SU should have comeback with My Funny Valentine."
I disagree with him, because he sounded one sided and the band director should have been prepared.
You are an awesome analyst coach Maestro.
Remember Bizets Carmen? That's JSU, without the violins.
Many years during the mid 70's, JSU surprised MVSU in playing...the 5th of Beethoven. That song caught MVSU off guard.
Thanks for the kind words 🙏🏿
This mf yapping!!!
Salute to JSU.. better arrangements and balance
I agree no tie SU all the way.
Yall do know southern band directors and students don't care what yall think right... For them it's Southern vs Southern. It jsu 40 years to do a southern on southern on southern... Congratulations 🎊 😂😂😂
It’s people calling this a tie 😂😂
JSU literally dawg walked su with 1 director vs su entire band director staff.
I agree no tie SU all the way.
