Anyone who gets involved in Kyudo knows what they are doing. - I assume that for 5th Dan I have to show two absolutely identical arrows (from ashibumi to yudaoshi), two hits and a flawless taihai.
All in all I’d say you looked really good. At some point it seems like just luck if you hit or not. How did the shots feel? Also I gotta say I’m so jealous that you get to do the short Taihai 😂 makes me want to move to a populated city so there’s more of a rush.
I feel like the higher dan exams are really arbitrary. You obviously have mastered all the measurable elements of the technique at this point and it's down to the examiners deciding that your chi was properly aligned.
@@AzradalHow does 'evdince of refinemnt' and "suitable for the level' sound anything but arbiterry? . Not to mention higher levels where it gets even more arbitery 'truth of kyudo should be present'. The higher dans are an old men club who let you in if they feel like it.
"you obviously have mastered all the measurable elements...." If that would be true he would have hit twice, instead of missing twice, wouldn't he? In this case it's nothing arbitrary. With two hits other things come into play - were his taihai and shooting correctly executed? In this case, for example his hesitancy on placing the yumi on the left knee or his very short dozukuri might have counted negatively. I guess for a very high ranked Sensei would be second nature to spot lack of refinement.
There are quite a lot of obvious problems with his form, and if examiners were really as strict as they could be, even fewer people would pass. Godan is far from requiring you "mastery of all element sof the technique".
i study under 2 of the most advanced shogosha in europe, they tell us about how judging works sometime, it's very precise and it took many years for the japanese judges to allow a handfull of gaijin to judge exams. People not being machines there is of course a part of subjectivity, which is different from arbitrary ruling ;)
Good work! You’ll get it next time 👍🏼
お疲れ様でした
Aaaaaah, you'll get it next time 100%

Why do you feel they are arbitrary? There is clear criteria written through Godan.
