@@miketurner4113 if you're using a laptop like I did, once you're on call the proctor will just have you wave the laptop around to show your surroundings. The process takes like 5 minutes and then you're just waiting in a queue for around 10 minutes from my experience. Not a nightmare by any means unless your house is chaos. You also have like 10 minute breaks in 3/4 of the tests where you're allowed to leave the room and do whatever u gotta do.
I had some pros and cons about taking the test online, but honestly I'm blessed that I had that option. I suffer from really bad anxiety, but I passed all 4 test online. Now I'm stuck on what my next step is.
I completely beg to differ with this…as a very sick child who could not attend regular school, as a mid-teen who’s Father died suddenly at 35, & Mom became mentally unstable because of it, as a married young woman at 21 for 25 years to a man who never wanted to help me get my GED to better myself, as a surprise divorce single Mom after 25 years who had to work constantly to make ends meet…7 days per week much of the time…as a nearly 59 year old woman who finally got 1 day per week off & had an opportunity for a “real” job with benefits & decent treatment for the first time in my entire work life since age 17…but with one requirement: I had to have my GED to get the job, since it’s a college (Receptionist) & of course, there was no other way around it. Doing my GED tests every Sunday (I actually began this process 1 year ago yesterday) around 6:00pm was my only option (which I was more than thankful for) I breezed through the first 3 subjects…without a hitch. When it came to the final exam, mathematics, I needed to pass, everything challenged me…they changed to Windows 10 without notice (but I had absolutely no problem calling the help line, getting a full refund & rescheduling) the system went blank & had to be rebooted (but the Proctor assured me I wouldn’t lose my place with the questions I’d already answered) I failed my first attempt by 8 points…but I pushed through & persevered (with the gracious help of a couple dear friends who helped me study & let me borrow their Laptop to accommodate Windows 10) & on October 17th, 2021, I became a graduate. On October 30th, 2021, I gave my two weeks notice & left behind “slave labor” jobs forever. I started my new career on November 15th, 2021, at 59 years old (my birthday was October 29th) & I could not be happier, peaceful & feeling good about myself, not to mention, being treated as a person of value. I could NEVER have done any of this without the GED being available to do online (this only became an option in 2020 during the pandemic) my life in every way changed because of this option. I actually work for the Online division of the college (who has 17 campuses throughout the state of Florida: ours being all online.) As in anything in life, technology isn’t infallible, but again, as in anything in life, there is help if you seek it out, & if YOU put up the effort, energy & perseverance into it. No two persons stories are the same, but I believe to encourage instead of discourage helps build confidence. The age of online has proven to be an amazing opportunity for work, school, college, shopping, business & connection around the world. I am certainly thankful that blessing was available for me, right when I needed it most!!!!
Thank you for sharing your experience, it's inspiring. I am happy you pressed on and rose above the many hurdles, and got the results you expected for your efforts. I am sure you are grateful for the new job you have and your current employers and coworkers appreciate that.
