Join Anna and Alf in this video as they visit CAERNARFON CASTLE near SNOWDONIA in NORTH WALES UK .
This castle became a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE IN 1987 and is now in the care of CADW .
In this video Anna talks about the history of this castle which was built by KING EDWARD 1 OF ENGLAND in 1283 and also of the previous castle before it .
CAERNARFON Castle was of great significance to EDWARD 1 and in 1284 he visited with his heavily pregnant Queen Eleanor , likely to ensure that his son would be born inside it's walls. When the Prince arrived he was named EDWARD OF CAERNARFON and became THE FIRST NON NATIVE PRINCE OF WALES IN 1301, later becoming EDWARD 11.
In 1969 the current KING OF ENGLAND CHARLES had his INVESTITURE HERE AT CAERNARFON CASTLE when he became PRINCE OF WALES and there is footage of him at this castle with the late QUEEN ELIZABETH his mother at that investiture.

Oo sorry to hear you are ill Sakuna get well soon 🙏💕 This castle is amazing, sorry for any confusion, it wasn't 3 castles put together, it was a motte and bailey castle ( made from wood )from the late 11th century until 1283 when Edward began to replace it with the stone that we see today. There is a Roman Fort close to here called Segontium and what I didn't mention in the video is that Edward actually stole parts of Segontium ( there is a video on our channel of Segontium if you are interested ) to use for this castle! And yes Edward 11 the son of naughty Edward 1 was the first English ( non native ) Prince of Wales , the title given to him by his father Edward 1 when he was born. As i watch your video here, USA is playing Wales in the World cup football match right now! Good luck to both teams! It always amazes me that these structures are still standing tall after all of these centuries. Walking through here is like being in a time machine. A large and majestic castle, which is on the UNESCO list of protected buildings. I've heard King Charles was investiture here. because before he became king his title was Prince of Wales. Thank you for telling the history of this castle

This castle seems to be in such great condition for a building of its age that has seen so much fighting.
