I loved the Tati box set and now I am super intrigued by the Etax box set. Somehow, I never heard about it before. I would love to get your thoughts on the Etax films. This year I went slightly overboard with the flash sale haul, picked up (1) Pasolini old box set - Trilogy of Life, (2) Jaques Demy box set, (3) Malcom X (4K/Blu Ray combo), (4) Blood Simple, (5) Five Easy Pieces, (6) Matewan, (7) Stalker (finally pulled the trigger on this one !), and (8) My dinner with Andre (blind buy ... but what a movie !). I love the quality of your videos and the editing. Great work .... looking forward to more content from you.
Great haul, I myself bought the Essential Fellini set and A few films from Terry Gilliam: Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and Jaberwocky. I also grabbed a bunch of titles from the Arrow and Indicator spring sales.
Amazing haul! You can’t go wrong with any John Ford; My Darling Clementine is another Ford in the collection and I think you’ll love it. This time, I grabbed the Late Ozu eclipse series set, A Canterbury Tale, The Children are Watching Us, The Furies, Day for Night, and Heaven Can Wait. Very excited to dig into these goodies! Are you going to take part in the Kino Lorber sale?
Greetings! That looks like a great Pierre box set. I got several great Criterion’s including The Velvet Underground, Bergman Island and Eclipse Series 46 Ingrid Bergman’s Swedish Years.
Thank you for sharing! I hope you enjoy Gilliam’s Munchausen. Thank you for sharing the Karel Zeman set sometime this past year. I picked it up in the November B&N sale and love it. I may never have checked that one out otherwise. One of the old Westerns on Criterion I checked out and liked really well was My Darling Clementine starring Henry Fonda. I haven’t seen Stagecoach yet.
Wow, really nice haul. This year I also made the decision to try to pick up one Eclipse series every haul. I feel like I don't hear about them getting mentioned very often. Nice to see them get some love here. That George Bernard Shaw set just might have to get added to my list of potential buys. In addition you also got the Pierre Etaix set! I have been wanting this set, but it always seems like it gets bumped off my list at the last moment. Would be interested in a brief, but slightly more in-depth, overview if you get the chance to watch through it. We watched Munchausen the other day after my flash sale haul came in. It was the Gilliam film from his earlier work that I just could never manage to find anywhere so I could watch it. I was so happy that Criterion actually put out a release. It's not my favorite, but I did enjoy it quite a bit. There were just a few moments here and there that didn't work for me, but overall I thought he captured the character's insistence that anything can be accomplished if you can imagine it.
The Pierre Etaix set is superb I got it a few months ago, interesting pick with Au Hazard, I have only seen Bresson's L'Argent which I found a form of torture, so I am afraid to delve into his other works. Picked up Y Tu Mama Tambien, La Piscine and Bull Durham during this sale.
If you don’t have Young Mr Lincoln, it’s another of Ford’s masterpieces also released in 1939. Stagecoach has one of the greatest chases in the history of cinema.
I need to get back to that one. I started it one time on the Criterion Channel, but I wasn’t in the right mood for it and had to stop. I should maybe pick that one up in July B&N sale this year.
I’m not a collector or anything, but wow this video is great quality. Surprised you don’t have more subs and views, good luck man, clearly went through a lot of effort in this one!
Nice selection. Picked up Todd Hayne's Velvet Underground documentary, Cukor's Holiday, & Hawk's Only Angels Have Wings. Hope to see more from George Cukor in the collection. I have really gotten into his films watching tcm.
Thanks man. Yeah I noticed on Letterboxd you’ve been watching through Cukor’s films. I need to watch more of his stuff. Great picks! I have Holiday and Only Angels Have Wings. Both are great!
Nice haul. I believe EO was more or less directly inspired by Au Hasard Balthazar, but I haven't seen the original - not a huge fan of Bresson. (I'd recommend L'Argent, though.) EO pretty much wrecked me. 😄 I practiced some self control this time and only bought three: Certified Copy, Romeo and Juliet, and Bergman Island - probably my favorite movie of that year. So beautiful. It's nice to hear about other people picking it up.
I picked up 18 new releases this time instead of the usual 25 to complete my entire collect, I won't name them all since I don't want the comment to be deleted, but the most eagerly watched pick ups for me were ROMEO & JULIET, THREE FILMS BY MAI ZETTERLING and BERGMAN ISLAND. JD, for you, of all my picks, aside from MUNCHAUSEN, I would think you would like Kieslowski's THREE COLORS (BLUE, WHITE and RED). All three films were amazing on DVD and Blu-Ray and I expect them to be even more beautiful on 4K.
Whoa, wait a second. Are you saying you have a complete Criterion Collection? That’s awesome! As for The Three Colors Trilogy, I’ve only seen Blue, but I loved it. Can’t wait to check out the other two. I’ll be picking up the 4K set soon.
@@FilmsByColor.Yes, DJ, the complete collection. The only thing I'm missing is the Kurosawa boxset at the time I had decided to stop buying both DVD and BR of the same film at the same time. I had all the Kurosawa BR issued at the time and felt it unnecessary to buy this DVD set, since CC promised all those unreleased films would be released on BR in the future. My one regret is not getting the set for $200 or less numerous times.
Oh no, haha. Hopefully I enjoy it more than you did. I understand that feeling though. I’ve watched a few Criterion films that I haven’t cared for. Makes you feel like an alien when everyone else seems to love something that you didn’t like at all.
Great haul. You always have this great aesthetic quality to your videos. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate the kind words. I try to do the best I can with the limited tech I have.

Hey. I picked up ‘Salesman’, ‘Election’, ‘The Brood’, ‘Hollywood Shuffle’, ‘Brute Force’, and ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’
Greetings! That looks like a great Pierre box set. I got several great Criterion’s including The Velvet Underground, Bergman Island and Eclipse Series 46 Ingrid Bergman’s Swedish Years.
I can’t wait to hear your review on YoYo. I too own the boxset and it’s very much worth it. Glad I was able to help and I hope you enjoy it!

I went light on this sale. The only 2 films I got were Blood Simple and Inside Llewelyn Davis.
I’m not a collector or anything, but wow this video is great quality. Surprised you don’t have more subs and views, good luck man, clearly went through a lot of effort in this one!
Thanks, man. Always great when someone notices the effort. I really appreciate the support!

My mother loves John Wayne westerns!! I actually plan on getting her Stagecoach for her birthday, so yeah.
Are there any musicals in the Criterion Collection that you or anyone here could recommend for her? She loves Meet me in St. Louis.
“young girls of rochefort” is one of our all time favorites! ❤
@@gracemartinez18 thank you!!

Balthazar is a heartbreaker tho'.
Man, good luck with that donkey movie. I hate it so much lol. I don’t get all the praise for it.
