Nice Van, Adam's was very intricate and well made at the back, but he's now with car, God bless, but hopefully he'll have new supped up deluxe van with 5 star inter LED lighting soon. Gav, when we getting next Hardcastle Towers video? Thanks
Patiently waiting for Thomas Heaton's reply LMAO I love how you all are friends but can joke with each other. We need more of that kind of banter in the photography community
I have to say, Amanda excels at standing in place in the background. I liked the showing of the work that went into the van, I like that kind of stuff.
Good to see Gumpton in your video again - he and you have a connection that makes them fun! My heart aches for Jason...I went into the drink in Alaska with my Canon and it never $tarted again. PS: Have a friend here who is doing a Delica conversion and its a total wreck. :)
Ha Ha, god watching that again makes me feel sick to my stomach all over again...updates on the camera coming soon! Dang, wish I'd gone to Meat Cove now...steak dinner, yeesh. Chris needs to add a snorkel to his van to keep up with Heaton now...and with the rain we had, we almost needed it! Great fun my friend...looking forward to next time! Oh and Ben...11/10 on that camera save! 😎📸
Perfect timing! I just went to this beauty set of Falls again yesterday, only to be greeted with about 15 cars... all of which were near full families. Ya love to see it, haha! Nice video, buddy!
Love this video. Laughed so hard at Adam's bit and the dance!! Been there, Got soaking wet in the river, Ocean and lake trying to capture a shot. So far splashed my camera with water just once, but never drowned it. Hope it is doing ok!
My goodness Wow!!! I loved the focus stacked waterfall shots with the partially sharp freeze motion of parts of the waterfall....the rest of the water milky and smooth with motion blur. Very special indeed! This is something I have always wanted to do. Those shots of the lupins ......Wow again!!!! So simple in its own way but superb in the way the colours radiated out!!! Brilliant!
Couldn’t stop laughing at the sketch in the river, superb! Disaster dropping the camera in water, bet you’re glad it wasn’t one of yours. Nice one Gavin. P.S. missed hearing Amanda’s “meat Cove”.
Hi Gavin: Always enjoy your videos. We were down east in June and went to the falls location you attended. That is once we were finally able to find the location. Also went up towards Meat Cove but didn't go all the way because an amazing fog back was rolling into the hills around Cap Stick. Keep up the great work. Cheers, Keith Pinn (Barrie, Ontario)
This is the first time I've recognized the falls you went to - it's on my bucket list but I'm a bit wary of the hike back up.... Fellas got some beautiful images!
I'm here watching your video of you folks in the rain as we've had little for weeks and a 355 km2 wildfire approaches my tiny town above the Arctic Circle.
Would have loved to have had a camper van for photography in my youth. Sorry to see the camera take a bath. Hope it will be ok. The drone shot and flower shot from last week (year?) are still magnifique.
I live in the UK and many folk have bought a similar vehicle for conversion. I just don't get this when there are plenty of reliable small vans that would serve better.
Great video at a great location with some great laughs. You actually got me to spend twenty two minutes of my life watching it. That'll be twenty dollars please.
Great video once again Gavin, Grumptons moving house , it'll probably move better than he's van. I feel sorry for jason, nothing can be more gut wrenching when that happens, hope it ends up being ok.
This is a cool location. Beautiful water fall. I was a regular viewer of this channel when you were in Vancouver Island. Once you moved to east I unsubscribed because those locations would be outside of my reach that I would be able to travel. But after watching this video you travel to amazing locations still within Canada. I subscribed again and added the location to my bucket list..😊.
I have, sadly, some experienc with wet electronics, -battery OUT - vacuum cleaner (probably have one in your camper?) Applied soon, and carefully, maybe using a piece of window screen, or anything similar, on the 'snout' of the vacuum - get it somewhere warm, a bit of air flow helps, if dust free - and/or, apparently, put it all in a cloth or paper bag or wrapping, into a bag of white rice In my experience, the vacuum cleaner is a big help in getting out the water that is in places like card connectors, USB, video and audio port
As a fellow northerner I watched for the van build then turned off..I’m tight with my time..the annoying pro got in the way..only joking gavin your the man..😂
Jason, I’m so sorry for your accident!!!! My heart just bleeds when I see a photographer lose any equipment!!!!! I’m glad I wasn’t there because I couldn’t stop the absolute depression I would for you!!!!! I hope everything turns out well for you!!!!! Thanks, lichen, and subscribe!!!!!!!
Focus stack? Oh, Right, no T&S lensI as much as people insist that tilt/shift can be replaced by focus stacking, there is always a limitation about movement of items in the scene, and, with any kind of effect like a specific type of look to the water, like capturing spray, stacking just doesn't work
So many things I could say about this one! Let's see if Thomas or Uncle Grumpy chime in on this. Chris will be looking to install a snorkel on his Delica next. And with the amount of rain we get here in Nova Scotia - he might need it! Gavin you should be stocking bags of Basmati in your camper for times like this. You could sell them..... for let's say..... $20. Keep up the escapades! Cheers.
Ok I was primed …. When you started with “you know what you really need though is…”, I was expecting you to say … your very own copy of Chasing Awe…but the wood stove comment was pretty good also.
Those expedition cars are very healthy instruments and investments and interesting from a psychoanalytic angle, as they are small personalized caves on wheels. Look how proud they all are (those who made them themselves). I created one based on a Land Rover once, superior in any aspect of course. Tosh's version is good too and seems to include a good portion of solid Canadian plywood. Mine did also (probably Swedish though), and that's the point where you tend to forget about weight (and diesel consumption) and let your inner timber man go berserk. ... PS: Now it's official - Grumpy is ready for the finger painting academy. Lately he's been seen with pre-historic abes!
For any electronics that get wet, with the power off clean with distilled water, and use moving air to dry out. Tap water and river water will leave minerals when they dry up, distilled water will help clean everything out and the moving air will dry faster than rice.
@wavesummit Agree, but fresh water is better than salt water, and a lot of Yuppie water (our tap water is safe to drink) has added gunge and sugar so isn't much good either. I do have a bottle of distilled water handy for clean-ups. Rice is a myth as far as I can tell. And be careful of forced ventilation, sucking or blowing, as rotating fans can generate damaging voltages.
LOL the river dance!!! we've all been there :) only lost a camera once, I've learned to sacrifice my body to save the camera! Healthcare is free, camera's aren't LOL :)
I use a 2000 lumen torch, slow shutter speed and paint the scene with light. I use the same in doors with flower macro photography. Looks like sunlight 😊
Did Chris ever, around thirty years ago, work for Radio rentals or Rumbelows? Odd question but I did many years ago as a teanager and had a mate of a similar age called Chris and there is an odd decades later resemblance.
Ahhh yes, I know well the pain of letting gravity win the fight to keep the expensive bit of technology from taking a bit of a bath. Two years ago I was out in the middle of a river, opting to head back to dry land and try a different angle. A friend who had come with me, to watch me splash around in the water I suppose reached out to take the camera for me, nice gesture, and I said "You know, I should hand him this camera before I drop it into the river, the stones here are quite slippery". So that's what I did, attached to the tripod. Then I made my way out of the river, or was trying too, when I began slipping about. My friend, in a bid to help opened the legs to the tripod, set it down....not realizing I had one of the legs adjusted rather short. He turned around just in time for me to lean down and grab the legs of the tripod and pull the camera out of the river. I will say, I pulled it out, patted it dry, checked the contacts, and internals. Not a drop of water got into the casing, sure my X-T3 isn't a medium format, or even a full frame, but apparently it doesn't mind a bit of water now and again.
For what it is worth, PA photographer here, and the waterfalls you visited while here are covered with moving foliage. My solution to this is to create two focus stacked images, one with the proper exposure for the water movement 6th of a second. Then another image stitched together with an open aperature, but the same exposure. This normally gets me a fast enough shutter to capture water texture, and freeze the motion of any foliage. The only downfall is that the second image is normally a focus stack of many images because of the short DOF. After you have those two images, its just a matter of blending the images to achieve the desired results. Thought that might help someone.
I fell in a duck pond with a Nikon F2s. Killed it. Wasn't underwater for 2 seconds but even Nikon could not bring it back. Sits on my shelf as a reminder.
I did this with a Canon F2. I put out the batteries and continued shooting after I drained the water out of the lens. The body and the lens was OK for some other decades ....
You three feckers and the goddess you must have kidnapped, are too funny. Thanks but, I can’t believe you were in NY and didn’t stop in to see me, wow…
Have you read my book? www.fototripper.com/chasing-awe-landscape-photography-book-gavin-hardcastle/
Yes, 🙂 Still waiting for the next one !!!!
yes
Only if you ship it to uk free lol
Nice Van, Adam's was very intricate and well made at the back, but he's now with car, God bless, but hopefully he'll have new supped up deluxe van with 5 star inter LED lighting soon. Gav, when we getting next Hardcastle Towers video? Thanks
It's a good thing I'm not there with you guys, two Chris's are too many 😅
Patiently waiting for Thomas Heaton's reply LMAO I love how you all are friends but can joke with each other. We need more of that kind of banter in the photography community
Great stuff, I love a good campervan tour! 😊
That remix of the chap falling into the water was pure gold! 🎉
Poor Amanda, just standing alone in the background. I hope she wasn’t bored. Another lovely video, always a joy to watch.
@amv000yt7 and @markosberndt2065 But what about the Hasselblad? 🙂📷
I have to say, Amanda excels at standing in place in the background. I liked the showing of the work that went into the van, I like that kind of stuff.

Man, I can’t remember how many years ago you introduced that running gag at 10:58 and it’s still good, also in the Leica variation 😁
i love how you capitalize on the awkward moments with the brief silence and makes the moments better
This is looking like a really fun trip. I absolutely geeked out when you showed the drone shot from the last trip there.
As well as the photography, I love the interaction between you lot. Keep it going, but when will we find out about Hardcastle Towers?
Time well spent watching this video! Amazing variety of content and entertainment....and oh boy, that voice....and Amanda!👌
Hello Gavin, I'm From Australia Love Your Video's, Can't Stop Laughing When I Watch Them.
Thanks for the latest video, I love it when my bell rings with an adventure from fototripper!
I really wish we had footage of the drop.
@@fototripper I know that would have been great for the video…need to set up a camera on a tripod and just film us all as we scuttle around.
You have the best videos! Very good to learn new skills and having fun at the same time! I love it!
‘Woodstove” You always crack me up.
I’d like to see someone build out a Chrysler Pacifica. Mine is stalwart as hell-best vehicle ever.
Grumpton and Chris! Close to the pinnacle of awesome landscape videos. Thanks for sharing!
You mixed up nikon with Olympus when I get salt or mud on my EM1mk3 just rinse off under a tap
Shot shocks? Chris's van "journey" begins. 👍😘
It's the honeymoon phase
Entertaining as always… never misses a beat. Great stuff, Gavin!
Great movie. Lots of 😂😂humor, rain💧💧☂☂ , and photos 🎥🎥📸📸 👍
Brilliant!
The wood stove suggestion made me laugh out loud. Brilliant. thank you!
Ben took his time through two videos to get comfortable with this channel’s comedic standards, but, that last remark was ‘tripper worthy! 😅
Couldn’t stop laughing at the sketch in the river, superb! Disaster dropping the camera in water, bet you’re glad it wasn’t one of yours. Nice one Gavin. P.S. missed hearing Amanda’s “meat Cove”.

Overall, the best video in a while. Highly hilarious 😂😂😂
This is the first time I've recognized the falls you went to - it's on my bucket list but I'm a bit wary of the hike back up.... Fellas got some beautiful images!
It's steep but short. 15 mins if you're mildly fit.
Well that sounds do-able - thanks!
Im going to try and make it to Meat Cove, not this weekend coming but the next. Probably the only place in Cape Breton i haven't been to yet
I'm here watching your video of you folks in the rain as we've had little for weeks and a 355 km2 wildfire approaches my tiny town above the Arctic Circle.
Great mix with the water stumbling Gavin. If anyone is going to slip over on wet rocks it's me so always take a tripod as a walking stick.
WAIT; You wonna tell me the lupin shot is already 1 year ago?! Time flies!
Would have loved to have had a camper van for photography in my youth. Sorry to see the camera take a bath. Hope it will be ok. The drone shot and flower shot from last week (year?) are still magnifique.
Thomas Heaton’s has got a snorkel on his van!🤣🤣🤣🤣
He should have spent that money on an extra tow strap…
I live in the UK and many folk have bought a similar vehicle for conversion. I just don't get this when there are plenty of reliable small vans that would serve better.
Grumpton is to blame. He started the fad.
Great video at a great location with some great laughs. You actually got me to spend twenty two minutes of my life watching it. That'll be twenty dollars please.
Plus shipping and handling.
Great video once again Gavin, Grumptons moving house , it'll probably move better than he's van.
I feel sorry for jason, nothing can be more gut wrenching when that happens, hope it ends up being ok.
just found your channel... absolutely brilliant! 🤣
Love your videos G! Educational content with a chaser of comedy... or is it the other way around?
This is a cool location. Beautiful water fall. I was a regular viewer of this channel when you were in Vancouver Island. @@fototripper Or if you sell Hasselblad x2d.
His van was nice but missing a copy of Chasing Awe by Gavin Hardcastle 😳
Valid point
Lol great work saving the camera from drowning 😱🤣 Sorry about Jason’s camera. I hope it’ll be ok. Beautiful shots of the waterfall🤩
Nice Video And Awesome Shots With The Students, Will You, Adam, Page, Brent And Thomas Be On Another Adventure?
Nice to see Grumpton make an appearance!
Brilliant and as funny as ever.
I have, sadly, some experienc with wet electronics,
-battery OUT

Damn that’s an awesome waterfall, when are we going?
Any time you want fella. Got a whole load more to show you too.
Another classic! Loved it.
Very fun storytelling, as always!
13:19 Those are not ferns in the foreground, that is grass! Beautiful grass, if I may say so! ☺️🤗
Visited meat cove from Ontario in July, Love it but that road in is terrible ! I read that it had been graded the day after we were there.
Love to see Thomas join this ensemble
Great video, but we don't learn whether the Nikon has survived the bath?
Tune in to Jason's channel for that
Great pics☝☝☝☝☝❤❤
And the Oscar goes to...His Royal Grumpness!
By the way, when wearing his hat, Chris looks like Terry Pratchett
As a fellow northerner I watched for the van build then turned off..I’m tight with my time..the annoying pro got in the way..only joking gavin your the man..😂
So many classic moments😅
LMAO, wood burning stove, I could heat that thing with 2 Dietz lanterns. The cutaway to Adam were priceless!
Sometimes it's nice to be watched
Jason, I’m so sorry for your accident!!!! My heart just bleeds when I see a photographer lose any equipment!!!!! I’m glad I wasn’t there because I couldn’t stop the absolute depression I would for you!!!!!
I hope everything turns out well for you!!!!! Thanks, lichen, and subscribe!!!!!!!
Lol😂😂😂 I didn't know landscape photography could be so much fun until your videos😊👍🙏🤘👏
Good entertainment - oh and some reasonable photography going on there too! hahaha. I do enjoy these videos.
Rice Nooooo, microscopic starch grains on the rice + water = glue. Desiccated silica gel bags in a sealed container.
I think with @thomasheaton latest upgrades to his van he's still way ahead of the game 😂
It was totally out of order of him to upgrade AFTER we'd filmed this.
Another fun vid. Well done and thank you.😊 👍
Triple like for camera wet song
Great one! We all need camper vans now 😂

Nice cameo by Adam describing his crap van.
8:33 - I’ll take his word for it!!
10:07 - C’mon guys, you shouldn’t have dangleberries!!! Even while camping you shouldn’t! 😂

You do actually ;)
