  • Dr. Kara Schick-Makaroff is a Professor and Associate Dean, Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta, Canada. The goal of Dr. Schick-Makaroff’s program of research is to enhance knowledge about use of quality of life assessment and promote equitable person-centered care, in order to improve services for people living at home with chronic and life-limiting illnesses, particularly kidney failure. A major focus of her research is to translate evidence on the outcomes of routine clinical use of electronic patient-reported outcomes (ePROs) in multidisciplinary care.
    Objectives:
    1. Understand the concept of “patient-reported outcomes” as building blocks for person-centered care
    2. Describe how patient-reported outcomes are currently used, and potentially could be used, in dialysis
    3. Discuss strategies to improve effective use and integration of patient-reported outcomes into dialysis care both at individual and aggregate levels
