BBC is a company of activists. The head honcho said that they don't create entertainment, they create messages.
Happy to see more and more people are leaving their 'messages' on unread.
Thats not necessarily a bad thing. You can have a good story that pushes a message. The problem is that instead of having a good story that pushes a message they have a message that attempts to push a story. Rather than appearing organic it always just a ham fisted brute force approach. The best i example i can think of is the first New episode with Tentant where he gets called out for misgendering the alien by NOT the alien but Rose. Nothing wrong with trying to push that message (Doctor Who is the perfect medium for Identity politics) but the approach was joke levels bad. First off the Doctor is not going to be the one misgendering anything and the individual being offended should be the one being misgendered. The alien didnt really care. It really shows the writers opinions that they think being offended on a strangers behalf is a good thing.... Real human beings dont like that. Only activists living in a bubble like that.
They need to focus on story first and let the message that they are trying to push happen organically. Their current writing approach is so lazy and talentless. It really shows that they hired activists and not writers.

Maybe the new show starts up with the doctor waking up from a Dream Crab that killed him (like with Clara), and he regenerated an unknown number of times while in the dream. Like PHEW! I had a dream I became a woman, then thought I was the most important god-being in the universe!

11 target audio novelisations is a year
11 animations (maybe 16) at one a year and 30+ colourizations at one a year maybe 2 (depending on story length) which will probably result in 6 more Blu-ray collections in full colour
They don't have much but they just started releasing target novelisations from 05 onwards (I ain't touching past capaldi and clara), audio novelisations 05 onwards (I ain't touching past end of time 2010) vinyls they are slow released and target novelisations are being re-release with full colour illustrations (they've only done 2 in 2 years)

I'm collecting the standard editions, which the 10th one (season 17) is being released in a couple of weeks, so there's 16 more to go for me, at the current rate of release this will take 8 years at the very least to get a 'complete' set

Well, it would explain why David Tennant was kept in reserve by the whole "bi-generation" thing, if they knew or highly suspected Gatwa was leaving after only a single season it would give them an opportunity to bring Tennant back for a season while they cast a new Doctor without having a bunch of down time.
2 seasons, he's already shot season one for 2024 and they are currently shooting season two for 2025
No more Tennant, please. No new Doctor. This franchise is dead.

@AhStuttgart I mean doctor who was the highest rated drama for the week for at least 3 weeks in a row with the 60th anniversary specials and then the Christmas special was the highest veiwed programme on Christmas day according to the over night figures, keeping in mind that we are over 15years removed from the david tennant era when streaming didn't exist without context to what was being viewed at the same time veiwing figures don't really mean much, and on the point of arguing the decline week to week, series 4 had a 20% drop between the Agatha christie episode and the silence in the library episode so does that mean that silence in the library episode was a bad episode?
If bi-generation is a thing... does that mean Gatwa has to go back inside Tennant? I'm not interested in the episodes... Just in how far they will bend the show lore over and ravage it like a Disney madma'am
Ncuti was probably convinced this was the right move and the show would take off. He realizes what it's going to do to his career and rightfully wants out before the damage to it is too great.

Too late. From what I have seen and read about him, I dont think he is that clever to be honest. Certainly not sharp enough to foresee the fact that a bad unloved turn as the Doctor will damage his career. Remember this, he thinks he is awesome, he is gay and super and the best ever and full of himself and his ego. He will just camp it up over however long he is there and think he is doing the best Doctor Who ever, the same as Whitaker did. And some idiots out there will agree with him, while the show continues its decline.
He reminds me of Bo Selecta. When Keith Lemon used to wear the rubber masks and mock celebs ego. He reminds me of his parody of Elton John. He used to come on as him in the mask and the first thing he always used to say is - "I am GAY!!!" and stuff about how gay he was, and how he did not like women cause he was gay, and that was pretty much the joke, all he yapped about was his sexuality.
Gatwa is exactly like that.
If they didn't want it to reflect badly on their careers they wouldn't be spouting off all the woke remarks in interviews. And lets be real its probably nothing to do with them WANTING to leave they likely just have inside info that the show is unlikely to get a season 3 which any sane person already expected to be the case. It's clear the BBC can't afford to keep the show going and don't want to make it in a way where its actually profitable and it makes no sense for Disney to pick it up and promise marvel style spin offs when its performing this badly. The whole deal is likely to fall through before anything significant happens.
Personally I hate it in situations like this when people say "well its nothing to do with the actors its the writers fault" because that is is only half true. The actors looked at the script, saw the lack of passion and the amount of "activism" and decided they were okay with it. As such if it ends up killing their career it's 100% deserved.

I have been a Doctor Who fan from the very start. I remember the first episode back in 1963 as if it were yesterday. In the 60 years I have been watching Who, not once, never, zilch, nada, did I look at Davros and think 'Oh a disabled character'. I also find it incredible that the likes of Gatwa wants out after 20 or so episodes, Tom Baker used to do 26-ish episodes A YEAR, and he was there for 7 years (178 episodes in total). DEI has killed this franchise.
Honestly, Davos could be seen as a beacon of pride. This is one of the Doctor's greatest enemies. Treating a "disabled" character as a human being capable of being one of the most brilliant of his race, a hero for his people, a strong character to be the foil for the Doctor.
If you glance towards Texas, you'll soon spot the villain. He's the one in the wheelchair causing death among mothers and children and forcing people to do his will on pain of execution. His name isn't Davros, its Greg Abbott and he's not a fictional character. RTD claiming a disabled villain isn't right should take a look at reality.
After "Special 3" it was so bad that I started binge watching Doctor Who with the regen to Patrick Troughten. I'm now in the middle of Colin Baker. Up to Peter Davidson many of the episodes were actually believable and some quality to them if you overlook the special effects. Starting with Davidson Doctor Who became lost. Russell T Davies resurrected the series and actually made it about a Man in a Police Box! Jodie took it woke and sjw. Now Davies is only concerned about preaching the "Message" to everyone and trashing the series, undoing 50+ years with this WOKE BS🤬🤬😢😞

It was even there during Eccleston's run, it was just much more subtle because the "woke" mindvirus hadn't fully infected the mainstream media at that point. RTD has always been a member of the "progressive" cult, it's just that back when he first revived Dr Who they couldn't openly and proudly show off how hedonistic and degenerate they are.
Unfortunately, they now can be open and proud and it's depressing how many people are willing to sit idly by and let them openly and proudly groom children.

Well even most Doctors and companions seem to keep 3 as their limit. It’s completely plausible that they want to end on 2.

To be honest, I don't think they will be missed, from what I've seen its pretty bad anyway, the whole history of Dr Who is being wiped out by naff writing and woke direction. Its a shame because I used to watch every episode.

Time to scrap the timeline and redo the regeneration from Capaldi
I had actually hoped that when Dr Karen regenerated, we would see someone lying on the floor in the Tardis wearing Capaldi's outfit - i.e the whole thing was just a hallucination brought on by a traumatic regeneration, and Dr Karen had never really happened at all. I know it's a bit Bobby Ewing, but it would have sorted out a lot of problems.

The Doctor himself died with Matt Smith but Doctor Who as a whole died with Peter Capaldi. His era was basically the Valeyard's redemption arc since it was "somewhere between your twelfth..." which was Matt Smith "...and final incarnation" which was Tom Baker's Curator. There will never be a better time for the Valeyard to show up.
Gatwa has already quit. They're just trying to keep it quiet just as they tried to keep Eccleston's departure secret early on in Season 1.
Meanwhile there filming season 2 with ncuti, perhaps with him being an upcoming talent he only signed on for 2 seasons so that he didn't miss out on opportunities and could negotiate to do more after season 2 if they can work it around his schedule with them working on 2025 doctor who now there's no reason he couldn't come back once filming is wrapped on season 2 in 2025 for a season in 2026
He signed on for 3 years but he's walking away after his commitments on season 2 are complete. He's gone and they are desperately trying to get him to stay. The major cause of this is there has been a rift between him and RTD. Season 2 has really upped the camp stakes to the point where even Gatwa has had enough and wants a more serious tone. RTD has basically said no and Gatwa has decided to not do Season 3.@@thomaspaterson1354
@@thomaspaterson1354 You're probably not wrong. I remember watching something on an actual Doctor Who youtube channel, i forget which, saying that they are both leaving after season 2. Possibly 1 of them after season 1. Probably because they know that the ratings will continue to decline to the point where the show gets cancelled.
Ecclestone said he was doing only the one series before it aired. It was no surprise when he finished at the end of that. I remember seeing an interview of him stating that. He didn't want to be typecast. The same with Witless, she was originally slated to do three series. In hindsight, that was three too many.
I struggled with the Jodie Whittaker episodes and watched the first David Tennant special - The Star Beast - with trepidation, but also, hope. And then we got the smackdown of the doctor being schooled in the use of pronouns and Donna and Rose telling the doctor he was useless, as he was a man. And I did watch the supplemental episode with a walking Davros, but I positvely recoiled when I watched Russell blather on about 'how a villan who was physically handicapped wasn't right for him'.
I've been watching Doctor Who since the Pertwee years and with great sadness, I'm going to tap out, without watching the two further specials. Doctor Who is clearly no longer about 'adventures in time and space', but is mainly a vessel for 'the message'. Honestly, I just feel gutted as to what this incredible show has turned into. 😢
They could of really done a good story of how Davros ended up in the wheel chair in the first place and became the madman we all know.
Unfortunately, it's no longer an adventure in time and space, just a modern-day soap opera in Wales!

Every doctor tends to have at least 2 companions in modern who so I could see mille leaving after season 2, however RTD already said he's developing season 3 and 4 so they could finish season 2 in say June 2024 and then could start filming season 3 in say April/May 2025 giving at least 10/11 months for ncuti to do a run on theatre and then vom back to film who

Either BBC needs to sell Dr. Who to a private studio so it can sink or swim on its own, or just shelve it indefinitely. It's dead Jim.
This is what happens when you cast actors who lack genuine passion for a project. I think RTD also lacks the passion he once had for the show than he had in 2005 when he revived it. If the BBC continues hiring people to run Doctor Who, who lacks the passion for it, it is going to continue on the path of plummeting viewing figures, just like Jodi Whitaker's era. It needs to dialled back to its roots to become a success once again and more importantly needs people who genuinely care about the show.

@@dahobbs9 Very true, this appears to be the case with alot of entertainment nowadays, but they don't want to listen to fans , as it gets in the way of their egos.
You know what they say " the rats are always first to leave a sinking ship". I think they had a little taste of reality after seeing the low ratings. They thought the fans wanted that kind of show but the ratings don't lie. Dr Who ship is sinking down to the abyssal ratings and they don't want to be there when it will hit the bottom and be cancelled.
It could also be Disney financed only the first 2 seasons to see if the show could work with 'the message' - like a practice run before the real thing starts and RTD dim down on the 'pissing off the fans' routine he seems to be stocked into.
I think that confirmed what many thought after Gatwa said he had no plan after the season 2 finale - meaning the show will be kept on life support till the last episode of season 2 aired. After that it will be over i think. It's just my humble opinion.
They didn't think the fans wanted this kind of show (woke, trans, etc). In fact they knew they didn't, and nor did anyone else, but they pushed it down our throats anyway. It's called social conditioning; been happening in the media for the best part of a century.

@@oskarscaikovskis Try not to create a headcanon for yourself, because it doesn't change what has become part of Doctor Who's history and legacy. If you wish to avoid those seasons then that's your choice. For me personally, I liked bits of Jodie's era, of course there were average parts, but I still found myself enjoying the episodes. I never want to revisit some of the new specials tbh

Dr Who has never been in a worse position as a franchise. Even when it was cancelled in '89 the show was solid with some fantastic episodes and a terrific, underrated, Doctor in Sylvester McCoy.
I don't think there's any possilbity of the show ever recovering from the apocalyptically bad writing of the Whittaker era and the new direction RTD seems determined to take the show.
McCoys first season was an abomination, easily the worst season of Classic who. The pivot to the Dark shades of grey Doctor was inspired and he became the most complex incarnation. 7 and Ace are my favourite TV version.

I remember being a kid when Tom regenerated into Peter, and it was a shock, because even though we knew the lead actor would eventually be replaced, there wasn't quite the buzz years in advance of who was leaving and when, not like now. So it really raised the stakes for your beloved incarnation and made for better television.
After that, no way in hell they'll be ever coming back to Doctor Who. And BBC will have to learn the hard way and cancel the series.
But Disney have somehow got involved.
Perhaps he wants to leave for the same reasons that Christopher Eccleston wanted to leave after just one season.
Unlikely, I think Eccleston set Equity on them. Also Eccleston was extremely principled and made himself unpopular with the management in an attempt to protect the minor, no name, actors.

One thing to think about.. they’ve been filming series 1 and the Xmas special for the last year and are currently filming series 2 and probably next Xmas special.. so by the time series 2 has aired, they’ll have been working for Doctor Who for three years already.
I heard they were doing everything so close together so it gave the actors a chance to do something else while they had a long gap before they filmed anything else 🤷♀️

Well before we get into it, lets bear something in mind... NCuti and Millie have been in the roles for well over a year or so, and everything was delayed due to the pandemic, so there's plenty in the can already, by the time all is said and done, when 2025 rolls around, they'll have been in the roles for about three or four years total by that point. So he might be jonesing to do some theater by then.
That said, the ratings were high for our place in the history books with other things going on with the distribution channels changing as much as they have. The fact that a companion might be auditioning is pretty standard really, they tend to only have aseason or two at most on Doctor Who. So, that tracks as being perfectly normal.
Honestly though it doesn't freak me out that this is brought up, whether or not Ncuti takes up a new contract at the end of series two, probably has more to do with the BBC and Disney involvement than anything else. And if Ncuti is putting these feelers out about it, its probably two prong, one, letting people know they might be available then and two giving themselves a bargaining chip when new contract roles around for higher wages.

But even if the series continues after Gatwa leaves, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll better.
Gatwa & Gibson are currently filming series 15. The idea being that if they film 2 series back to back that gives them 18 months to go and do other projects. Word is that Davies is ‘moving upstairs’ in 2026 so there will be a new show runner then. Whether Gatwa & Gibson return depends on the new show runner.

Umm, he clearly had a really fantastic time with David.
Not sure if you've seen the behind the scenes filming (that's what Unleashed is for) but he talks about how David was one of his major acting inspirations, if not the actor who started him on his path in the first place, and he absolutely loved having that as his introduction into the role! It's honestly a stroke of genius when the passing of the torch prior times often could feel a little disconnected, sometimes not even meeting at all (the two actors involved in filming I mean).

I have said, ever since the "bi-generation" thing, that Tennant was being held in reserve for when (not if) the ratings tank. The storyline seems to be that the Tennant Doctor is in retirement, in "ready reserve," so to speak. Eventually, the Gatwa Doctor will start showing signs of temporal instability and the reason will be that "young" part of the bi-generation is usually an unstable artifact of regeneration, and then in one episode he will just, in effect, wink out, leaving Tennant's Doctor to take up the main role yet again.

Plus 14 only regenerated recently. Time Lords can live for a thousand years in the same body. Could easily just have the Doctor go travelling again after 'healing himself'. Plus he still has the Tardis, that should have been a big giveaway he's not completely retired.

According to one of the cardiff magazines They have already filmed his first and second season and are currently filming his third. because of all the breaks etc the production company have gone into American style production. Something suggests that disney has amped up production to breaking point.

It depends on the ratings, if they keep pushing the gay angle onto a mainly heterosexual family audience the ratings will plummet, as parents don’t generally want their kids exposed to adult content, of that nature or any other along those lines.
From what I’ve seen, it’s not dr who anymore, just another show pushing an agenda, instead of entertaining, imo with it’s current direction, it deserved to fail.
