Thier not to bad of a transmission. People just overheat them and never change the fluid. Then they have the “I know a guy who can do it cheaper” rebuild it. And losing reverse is usually user error not letting the transmission engage reverse before accelerating.

Re my previous post, I live in Australia where we used to have the GM (Holden) Commadore. I had 2 of these with the 3.8 litre engine and the same gl60e tranny. A lot of owners had to have rebuilds after about 200,000 km. I knew about this so made sure the fluid was changed every 30,000km and flushed every 60.000. Both station wagons loaded with tools of trade did 500,000km with no transmission problems whatsoever and engine oil change every 6000km.

I worked at a 4WD shop in the San Joaquin valley in CA in the 1980s. During cotton picking season we would have turbo 400 transmissions and converters lined up and ready to go because the farmers would try to tow their huge overloaded cotton trailers to the gin and puke their transmissions. In and out in 3 hours or less after digging out a ton of dirt from under the truck.

The combination of 2007 truck and that condition and NY state don't make sense until you throw in the magical binder "fluid film treated". Impressive how rust-free that car is.

I usually don't like "part videos" not with the last few being as long as they have been, I really can't complain. Honestly glad that when you do these they aren't split into several parts just because you are looking to make more money.

Opinion: I much prefer to see the diagnostic videos, even though you considered them to be “boring”, Eric. They are quite educational.

It's amazing how heavy that transfer case will get in 20 more years. I used to be able to man handle them just like that too! Now l need help. Oh to be young again!

@@SouthMainAuto flatbacked three of them with my old man… he’d pick it, plop it on my chest and kick push the creeper I was laying on under the truck.. laughing his @$$ off. He’d run around to the other side with bolts and call me a 🐱if I didn’t have it in place and he had to help lift and finagle it in. It’s hard to lift when you’re laughing! God I miss him. Sorry, watchin this video brought back some good memories.

You taught me how to rebuild my transfer case and another TH-camr taught me how to rebuild my transmission. Unbelievable resource for knowledge and mechanical wisdom. Thanks Mr O. God bless you and your family.

@@budc2578 Just used a utility style rolling cart and cut a hole in it to stand the case up on end with the output shaft in. Worked great and cleaned up easy.

I own a 1974 GMC C1500 and had the TH350 rebuilt last winter. Cost all of $900.00 including removal and reinstall. It pays to own old stuff.

Cant believe I blasted all those header/exhaust bolts loose without a hot wrench. Only broke one but looks a lot easier when it's at temp. Neutral drop sent me here and I ain't lookin back!
