      The shorter table to the left of the cylinder on Buster seems like a better setup to me less distance from the ram to the conveyor, Ultra seems like an excessive amount of movement to get the wood to the conveyor after thousands of splits.

    Watching the split wood go straight onto the conveyor is refreshing after watching so many channels without any conveyor.

    Joe, you "hit the nail on the head" with this video.
    Even though the vertical splitter is slower than horizontal splitters, you can:
    ---work at your own comfortable pace, at a comfortable table height;
    ---use your creativity to create almost perfect firewood of any size you wish;
    ---create splits with very little "slash" and waste;
    ---see the firewood inches from your face getting split;
    ---avoid the high cost of a processor, and get back to a simpler work style and splitter.
    I can see why people just love this machine.
    All of Chris Wolf's enhancements, plus a super quiet muffler, would make this a perfect splitter.

    I can only hope that an electric Axis will be an option one day as well. It can't be understated how much that option would improve the industry. To do this inside a building, like i would certainly perfer, would be a game-changer.

    • @ohiowoodburner
      @ohiowoodburner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be neat I had thought they made an electric one before but I'm not sure. Thanks Cody

    • @CodyH88
      @CodyH88 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ohiowoodburner Andrew and his team just came out with a horizontal one. Its one of their bigger units. It's also like 26k or so. I am hoping for the Axis or Ultra to go electric. With the right personal setup, a person could work day, night, no major weather issues and sun exposure. That's my plan if I can get to that point and eastonmade makes more electric units.

      @@CodyH88 sounds good other than trying to bring the rounds indoors to be split and then getting the splits back outdoors again.

    • @CodyH88
      @CodyH88 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iffykidmn8170 I mean you certainly have that point and it's valid. I feel that people can do whatever they want or is best for them. But say you have that option of a small abandoned warehouse or a large pole building. Are you taking that to work in or outside where you, and your equipment, are totally at the mercy of the elements? I'm taking the building 100% of the time and not putting thoughts into moving blocks. Plus, I would be dumping them (or unloading if I didn't have a dump bed) in there in the first place.

      Hi Michael - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I contacted Super Split but they have no plans to expand into Europe. You can buy the Axis in the UK but it comes at a price that is hard for a non-professional to justify.

    • @michaelwillson6847
      @michaelwillson6847 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rodneysweetnam8653 yea must say don't no if a could justify it like. Have a 7 ton electric splitter the now granted there ain't much it won't split but the cycle time is arround 15 seconds which isn't great. Although going through arround 8 ton of firewood roughly per year would certainly speed up the process.

  • @rodneysweetnam8653
    @rodneysweetnam8653 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. Over here splitting wet logs is more often as not the norm so it's an occupational hazard in which we are well versed. I always keep the bed clear of all debris and place logs firmly against the back to assist in keeping them secure. If the log has been cut at an angle I place the tallest part furthest away from me and against the back of the bed. Knives in Europe are angled down at the tip, which in addition to concentrating pressure on initial contact also assists in drawing the log away from you. If I was Andrew I would investigate the Eurooean approach.

    31 and frosty grass this morning in Wisconsin. Still alot of stacked seasoned Oak and maple to sell yet but haven't had as many orders as other yrs. Yes i raised my prices $10 a facecord. Someone wants 6 cord of boilerwood at least but not for a few weeks. I could use a axis with a log lift. I have 30" oak rounds to split and hate wasting time noodling them into quarters to be able to lift onto my supersplit. I have a box store splitter but the hose is too short to stand up after replacing the control valve last year. So I don't use it much except for knotty pieces

    For your operation and how you do things, I don't see a box wedge splitter being the right choice. You chose well with the Axis. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you are making a lot more bundle grade wood with the vertical splitter than you ever could with a horizontal splitter, box wedge included.

    Hey Joe, I just had a thought when I was watching you try to split that one piece that was over length I got to thinking I wonder if you laid that piece down open side up on the table and brought the wedge all the way down and got the split started while the piece was on the flat, and then may be flipped it up and jammed it on the wedge, like you were trying to do wonder if that would’ve worked.🤷‍♂️ just a friendly suggestion is all.
