    In this amazing special, we see all the surviving Classic Doctors and most all of the companions, we see the 6th Doctor and the Brigadier on screen for the only time ever, we see Liz Shaw rush the Rani to save the 3rd Doctor!!
    This special is like a theme park live action show, don't ruin it by asking questions on whether it's good or not, just watch the awesome!

    This was done as a fund raiser, and made very quickly and very inexpensively and as a simple bit of fun. To attack it as bad is to miss the point.

    Despite the "uneveness"" of this special. It is just soo good to see what was to be the last appearence of many of these performers as their Doctor Who incarantions. I wish somehow some of the footage could be used in an offical adventure.

      Thus far, it’s proven itself to be the last official performances of
      Jon Pertwee as The Third Doctor
      Deborah Watling As Victoria Waterfield
      Caroline John As Liz Shaw
      And
      Kate O’Mara As The Rani

      5:00 im more concerned this scene doesn't make sense since the doctors granddaughter is a timelord herself and some how she she doesn't recognise her own grandfather or the fact that timelords can regenerate considering she already met the doctors future selves in "the five doctors" episode ?? 🤷🏾‍♂

    Probably THE ONLY special i wish was available on home media (whether it's here in the states or over there in the uk) also, I hope they make a sequel of sorts to this someday. Could you imagine doctors four, five,six, seven, eight,ten, eleven, thirteen, and even the fifteenth doctor appearing on the small screen together for the first time along with their respective companions? (Although thinking about it now I'm not sure if christopher eccelston or peter capaldi would want to return as doctors nine and twelve......but,hey a fan can dream can't he?)

    Shows with less than perfect FX, yes, because the fans are drawn in by the writing and the performances, thus obviating the daft notion that such shows are taken off T.V. for a stretch of decades until they can "do it better."
    No, I heard the truth, as you can hear it from the lips of JNT, Sylv, and Sophie if you watch "More Than 30 Years in the TARDIS," available on disc 3 of the 3-DVD set of "Shada."
    There's also the special "Endgame" on the DVD of "Survival."

    I think the main reason the BBC did this was because they had some new tech they wanted to play with. I remember that this was filmed in 3D and you got the specs as a free gift in that week's Radio Times. The swirling camera action was to take advantage of the added depth that movement in a certain direction gave the film. This is what happens when effects and tech have a priority over script and acting.

    I myself acknowledged that the BBC never dug too terribly deep into its pocket; it shows in other programs they put on, sci-fi examples of which include "Blake's 7" and "Red Dwarf." This did not stop those shows from having cult followings just like DW.
    You are the one trollishly insisting upon something that simply is not true. DW was not on hiatus when "Dimensions in Time" was made. It had been canceled, axed, given the boot, and chucked.

    Pointing out a mistake is scarcely being picky; on the contrary, it's educational. As for dodgy special effects, DW is world-famous for them.

  • @MaskedMan66
    @MaskedMan66 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    "It's laughable and other movies and shows are making us look worse than a puppet show."
    That could be construed as an attack. I didn't say anything that the folks at DW haven't said; I also said many of them were very innovative. A lot of them were impressive when you take into account the budget, or lack of.
    I advise you to find the three-DVD set of "Shada." It contains the special "More Than 30 Years in the TARDIS," in which Sylv and Sophie share their memories of the cancellation.

  • @MaskedMan66
    @MaskedMan66 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Trust me, nobody would care, and a hand-waving explanation would be more than satisfactory. I mean, folks looked at Pat Troughton's grey hair in "The Two Doctors" and just shrugged.
    Now, they could have the Doctor visit realities where his counterparts never regenerated.
    As for digital rejuventation, I don't know if even the FX department as it is now could afford to do that.

    I never attacked the original series. What I meant was it's been said the decision was made to "rest" the show until it could be done with good special effects on their budget (like other productions were being done with). Notice when it got to the point even people with home computers could do videos with really good special effects that DW returned? (Which was an excellent choice on the part of the Beeb.)
    As for the writing... I dunno. I take what I can get. I like Doctor Who.

    It was the original series with its expert writing and superlative performances that kept the fans watching for twenty-six years. The effects were, in many cases, very innovative, and fans did not obsess over them.
    I was referring to the classic series, obviously. As for the new series, there have been things less than 100% effective; the Raxacoricofallapatorians, for instance. But there's an inversion now: great effects and lousy writing.

  • @brandoman79
    @brandoman79 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    Susan raises an interesting question in this charity special, when she tells Colin Baker's Doctor I want my Doctor where's grandfather. When the Doctor regenerates does he totally become a new person that past family ties are cut? For instance when River Song meets David Tennant's Doctor she doesn't refer to him as her husband. (the meeting is the 1st time that the Doctor meets River but the final time River is with the Doctor) She only refer's to Matt Smith's Doctor as her husband

    @MaskedMan66 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @brandoman79 Actually, the only time she calls him "the Doctor" is when she asks Tegan if the Master is a friend of his, and in that instance I think it was just for clarification. Plus, I have a feeling she might have felt a bit weird calling this cricketer who looked younger than herself "Grandfather."
    I know Susan has been appearing alongside the Eighth Doctor in the Big Finish audios, but I haven't heard them, so I don't know how she addresses him in those stories.

    Funny about how people get worked up about the special effects. It was the 1970s and the budget was very small! My daughter (who's still only 15) used to be like "But I love the bubble wrap monsters, Mummy!" - when we watched old Jon Pertwee episodes on VHS. She then got scared of it because of the Ood, and only returned recently because she has a thing for Peter Capaldi. But in my mind, the rubbish special effects were what made Dr Who. That and the great acting. X to all.

    5:00 this scene doesn't make sense since the doctors granddaughter is a timelord herself and she can't recognise her own grandfather OR the fact that timelords can regenerate considering she already met the doctors future selves in "the five doctors" episode ?? 🤷🏾‍♂

    How do you know there wasn't more to the story than what you heard?

    @8:09: Ah, I was wondering if this was the "Ted" or "Mandy" version.

    They should put this on one of the upcoming dr who dvds. Too bad the Master wasn't in this.

    Hell no, Peri was the hotty back then. I remember being a little kid and watching that era of Doctor Who with my Dad and he used to say Peri had a nice pair. Didn't know what he meant then but I agree now ;)
