I'm going to be the rain on the parade here 😬 Despite a nice amount of kills and personal glory, your commanding officer would not be happy with the result. Chasing that one enemy halfway across the channel and ignoring the primary mission might see you not leading any more flights in the future. The factory was destroyed after all. So as an RP thing, this mission would be a loss and you might lose your command too.
Welp. That was a pretty chaotic, with the ground attack coming in just as you took off for a completely separate mission. Nicely fought, though. Those gun-pods are death to bombers.
It's also death for the pilots using them. Sacrifice speed and manoeuvrability, making yourself easy prey for fighters. Even with all ammo out, the drag and weight of those cannons alone is ridiculously noticeable. Most Bf-109 pilots opted to never use them, in bomber engagements it makes sense with cleaning bombers up... but, is it worth it if they have fighter escorts. You still need to worry about them after bombers are down, even more so if they opt to chase you down.
I really hope the B26 + B25 become flyable. It’s laughable that the Allies have fewer bombers than the Axis and their only real one, the A20, has next to 0 defensive weapons. Watching you intercept them so casually really demonstrated how awful they are. Good video though :)
Funnily enough, in real life, they were casually easy to intercept without escort protection. I see you're yet another with this preconception that bombers were tough to take down, and how the .50 was incredibly powerful. Reality this does not show what you think. The biggest issue with gunners on bombers was inflating kills. 1 fighter shot down multiple gunners claimed that kill, in some instances 7 gunners claimed a fighter shot down. To their base that's 7 fighters shot down, when in reality it was just 1. It would have been incredibly difficult for them to shoot down fighters, that would zip in fast for a quick burst. Here's a scary fact for you and why you should have the upmost respect for bomber crews, 4 Mk-108 30mm shells was all it took with average hits to down a B-17... the Me-262 had 4 of these in the nose. That is just one pull of the trigger!! An experienced fighter pilot would know the critical areas and do it in under 4 shots. A pass to the front landing a single 30mm into the cockpit is both pilot and co-pilot dead, as well as the cockpit no longer existing. Bomber crews had it rough. It wasn't until the P-51 showed up that they see fewer bomber losses, but don't forget by 44/45, German airforce was very limited. And resources were poor. The likes of the Me-262 and Ta-152 (it's a joke this is in game) were very few. In game they exist so easy killers of bombers. The issue with bombers is how complex it is to model each position within the bomber. This is exactly why we don't have 4 engine bombers. It would cost too much to do, and they've already said the work would be the same as doing multiple fighters/2 pilot aircraft already in game, and heck even an entire battle expansion. So it would cost a lot of money to buy as a collector plane. And most players would get upset at how easy it is to be shot down, as it was irl. It really isn't worth doing, as most would give up with it. Even more so online. Don't get me wrong I'd love to fly them in single player career, but yeah. It would be silly imo. Definitely not worth the work and the headache of these players with the weird preconception that the .50 will save them lmao. Heck, nearly 60% of US bombers' losses were down to flak. Even escort fighters couldn't save you from that, let alone .50 The other issue is TD, which is game engine related. It was stated the B-26 was an absolute hassle to do, due to multiple gun positions effecting TD, that is also why you'll only see a few in formation. Never large numbers. TD is a massive issue with IL-2 and it doesn't matter if you have the latest built PC you'll still run into it.
All in all, a successful mission, even although you hit the bombers AFTER they'd hit their target. Still turn-fighting in a boom-n-zoom fighter though, but the cannon wing pods do give a particularly destructive punch! Another hairy landing for Taff there (forgot to deploy his landing flaps methinks) but he certainly judged the gap between the trees perfectly. However, I reckon I could see a tweety bird crossing itself in the tree on the left as Taff and his 109 hurtled towards apparent certain doom. I have to admit, my sphincter was going like a bunny's nose as I peered through my fingers from behind the sofa! 😬
Fun to watch. Not very good decision for that last bomber to try the channel with no power and losing altitude. Better a bail out and take your chances with a POW Stalag.
Nice work. Um, from what I can see your opponents need to work on their landings because it looks like they go down nose-first, and in flames (with the exception being 15:26). 😏
funny I find the 190 hardest to land I seem to cause it to spin and snap the undercarriage. with the Normandy expansion I was really hoping to see B-17s or landcasters
190 is very easy to land, actually it can land almost by itself. Check out the speed, the final is between 190-200kmh, try to land on 3 points, control the pitch and use slight throttle bursts if you fall way under 190kmh. Do not forget flaps at those speeds. Report back how its going.... Wegtreten! P. S. Yes, we need some big boys to shoot at...
They won't do the 4 engine bombers. As AI it would be cool to see, but it would require a lot of work. IL-2 suffers with TD all those gunner positions, which would cause the TD to get worse. Even on a decent, the latest built PC TD crops up. It's the game engine it needs updating to match the new build PC that would be able to handle more, even more so with multi-threading. I highly doubt we would ever see them as player controlled, the amount of costs to build the model itself would be high, making it an expensive collector plane. Not to mention the fact, a lot of players would get upset with how easy they are to down. Oh, and they'd need to redo bombing in the game. As it's target specific with the bombing being bang on. Not damage based which you'd need for level bombing spreads. We'd need new targets designed. So a lot of work is needed.
Taff do you have any idea yet what your next IL-2 campaign is gonna be? I’d be up for a Campaign in a bomber, or a IL-2 1946 Campaign in the Pacific! What do you think?! Keep up the great work, and I can’t wait for the next Campaign!
Great shooting! Too bad about the shoulder shooting AI's, from what I've read that would not have flown IRL. Like others said it's a shame about huge number of non-flyable allied bombers while all the wheeraboo stuff is flyable pretty much immediately.
The most important thing is that the enemy is shot down, not who shot him down. Though I agree from what I read as a wingman you would use the couple seconds you'd have after the lead turns off to try and bag the enemy. But even the AI can be over-excited ...
Can we, or rather 'they', finally make a current modern graphics and gameplay sim for the Pacific Theater. IL2 1946 was superb and other than the graphics it still holds up well using one of the mods with the Zuti mod. But at some point we need a brand new Pacific Theater sim with all the current bells whistles and addons. Real latitude/longitudes, real navigation. I know many have been waiting a long time for this so devs can you do the sim world a solid and make this happen.
Won't happen, not at the standard of the IL-2 great battles. The biggest issue is Japanese aircraft and modelling them correctly. There isn't a lot for surviving aircraft to model on, likewise very little documentation around those aircraft. So it would be a lot of guess work. Which, their standards now they don't want to touch as that falls into very experimental and guessing.
Well, let's see, flak stole your first kill - call that 1 damaged Typhoon. Second target, a Typhoon, taken out with one burst - great shooting! 1 kill. Next target, again a Typhoon, one burst - second kill! Your wingman stole a Thunderbolt kill - second damaged. Back to the bombers and you knocked down the Havoc you damaged earlier - third kill with two bursts. Next Havoc downed with 4 bursts - fourth kill. You're on a roll! Next Havoc down with two bursts - fifth kill. Final Havoc, one burst expending all the pod 20mm ammo and down he goes. Cripes almighty, Taff, your shooting was excellent. You just flew a 6 kill sortie, plus 2 damaged!! Now, about that landing - if the maintenance chaps get on your case about the damaged propellor, you tell them that due to your expert slalom through the trees, that was the only damage!
I'm impressed your marksmanship has vastly improved, also never saw anyone use a 109 in slalom racing
I'm going to be the rain on the parade here 😬 Despite a nice amount of kills and personal glory, your commanding officer would not be happy with the result. Right? Bro completely failed the mission which was to intercept the bombers lol
The crew of that last Havoc really hated the prospect of becoming POWs. Cannot say I blame them.

The thing is there are some really strong variants of the A-20 out there
The show’s historical authenticity is also laughable.
As a bomber enjoyer, i agree
At least he we could get the model with the dorsal twin .50 turret.
Funnily enough, in real life, they were casually easy to intercept without escort protection.
I see you're yet another with this preconception that bombers were tough to take down, and how the .50 was incredibly powerful.

Classic. I wonder how many real life ace-in-a-flight pilots came back from that flight with such landings.
Given how notoriously difficult the 109 was to land, due to its landing gear, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it were a high figure.
A landing you can walk away from!!! ☺️ 👍
Now that’s the Taff landing bounce we are looking for.
All in all, a successful mission, even although you hit the bombers AFTER they'd hit their target. Still turn-fighting in a boom-n-zoom fighter though, but the cannon wing pods do give a particularly destructive punch!

Precise shooting, well done
Loved the “use your ai team mates as canon fodder tactic” those bomber kills were juicy haha
You got to caught up chasin 1 fighter that you let the bombers get to their target, rip. lol
Darn wingman stealing kills! 🙂
Honestly, these days I appreciate the company.
Awesome mission, and fantastic landing. Had me on the edge of my seat!
I landed my MC 202 a bit better than that today, but no worries. Good shooting.
Poor pilots at 13:35 tried to bail and hit the ground
I see what you did there, those tactical markings on the side of your 109...
Really enjoy your video editing of the third person views it adds so to the episodes👍
Fun to watch. Not very good decision for that last bomber to try the channel with no power and losing altitude. Better a bail out and take your chances with a POW Stalag.
Taff need to brush up on aircraft recognition: RAF Boston III's but were superseded by Mossies by 1943

landed like a G6 with a G6!
Want to see more allies attacking more axis formation bombers
I bet you are just reincarnated H. J. Marseille, aka the star of Africa or "best luftwaffe shooter". no doubts, your aim is amazing.
Did you have full landing flap on? Looked like minimal flap there - takeoff flap maybe? Might be why it floated so much after the initial hard bounce.

Brilliant video! Would love to see a 109 series. Does iL 2 do 109’s verses a fortress’ and liberator’s? Late war?
the old IL-2 1946 yes, the actual IL-2 Battle of X not, just two engines B-20, B-25, and new is B-26...
15:20 Nice to see War Thunder physics being payed tribute 😂

@@yoosta22 I think, given that last landing, Taff should maybe avoid aircraft carriers altogether. The attrition rate could be horrendous!🤨
Tempests, not Typhoons
pls do a series on this
great flying, but im pretty sure thats a 109 g14, the game might say g6 but the tail and canopy are like the g14
Jesus, people always check your gauges for the speed when landing. This was too fast....and too long (touchdown in the middle of the runway length).
Don't forget, You can always go around.
@@sharpe3698 go around? Thats for chicken, not a hero fighter pilots....no, of course you can always go around and save the plane.

@Big White who asked you?
@Big White yes I also enthusiastically support fascists in a video game because I too am an edgy 14 year old
@@jacobarcher1097 Say again? We cant hear you from the huge allied dicks in your mouth

Why do the modern generation call it the 'BF109'? It wasn't called that in its time. RAF fighter pilots called it the 'ME 109'.
Why does this game have flak when friendlies are in the air. In reality flak won't shoot in case they might hit one of their own.
