One of the biggest reasons that I trust in this reboot, is that allegedly Showtime has wanted to do another season/reboot for years, (since around 2016) and Micheal C. Hall would turn them down saying he’d only return if a script was captivating enough.

Some actors play a role so good they became they became of they’re portraying. Michel C. hall is one of them. Whenever I look at him, I don’t see Michael C. Hall, I just see Dexter.
I recently watched the whole show again after learning that the last season wasn't the final season. And that made it so much better. First time when I watched it all, it left a sour taste in my mouth. I hated the ending. So I am so happy they're giving this another shot
I never watch the season finale for that reason. I knew it was really bad and didnt want to ruin it for me. So I watched it now just because there is a new season and its looking so cool!! I love Dexter and Michael ❤
I watched it as a fan from the beginning and while the main body of the final season wasn't my favourite (especially the protege angle) I still liked the tragedy of the end moments, there was an echo of the poetry of season 4 about it, like, you can't have it all. I know people were confused but I still don't really know why. I didn't love it but I really didn't hate it, especially as the other endings people had thought of were massively worse and more boring.
Once I get attached to characters, I can forgive ALOT of sloppy storytelling, but that last season man... ugh! I've thought thats almost seeming like a given. I don't know exactly how he or others have been saying it, but kinda on the lines of its coming back to be able to give fans a proper finale. If it isn't him getting killed off, this would seem like it could keep going on. Unless he gets caught and jailed would be the other possibility. I can't really see him just turning a corner and his dark passenger stopping. That would be a very hard sell and leave fans the hope that would come back for closure again
@@qp773 It wouldn’t be a hard turn at all if dexter, after learning about Harry and Vogel, after causing deb to die and leaving Harrison with Hannah for years, Dexter could just want his life to exist with any family he can be find again, that means if Harrison shows up dexter might just kill who he needs to if anyone is following Harrison to keep him, his girlfriend, and Harrison safe. I think dexter at this point could refocus his dark passenger further and only kill those who deserve it- the people who try and hurt him or his family.
@@ShaggyDabbyDank except that is what a normal person would be able to do but the whole point of the character is that he's a psychopath. Season 1-4 Dexter is very different from what they turned him to. He cares about Deb and people around him because they are part of his tribe but he doesn't have normal love for them the way a normal person does. Not to mention the whole show's focus was on the fact that he has this dark passenger that he can't control and had to find an outlet. For him to suddenly be able to say "oh I can just turn it off because I care more about the people around me" would basically be saying that he never had to do it at all to begin with and everything Harry taught him was basically monstrous because he didn't need the outlet.

Season 8 makes it very clear that Dexter isn't just some 'psychopath', nor is he the 'Perfect Psychopath' that Vogel thought he was. He has emotions. He has care for people. The reason as to why seasons 1-4 he only cares for people as a "tribe" is because Harry and Vogel struck it so deep into Dexter that he was an unfeeling psychopath who was only ever going to live by deceiving everybody and staying safe from the law. It was both Harry and Vogel that put this deep-seeded belief in Dexter and the two of them largely shaped who Dexter was going to become as an adult, he trusted his Father fully to guide him to the best answer. Your last paragraph hits the point home. He never had to do it to begin with, it was something he always felt the 'need' to do, only after Harry taught him it was alright to kill bad people. Prior Dexter had killed animals and tried to hide them, and when he was caught by Harry it seems like he knew it was wrong what he did. If Harry had taken a bit of a harder stance and actually tried to help him instead of channeling his urges, we wouldn't have a Dexter show. Ultimately though, Dexter never had a 'Dark Passenger'. And that's apparent when you realize that the Harry that Dex always talks to when he's alone is a figment of his own imagination, it's his conscience speaking back to him. And he makes it clear to himself that Harry never taught him to call it the 'Dark Passenger'. All Harry said was that it got in too early, and was going to be with him forever. Dexter interpreted this as a 'Dark Passenger' which he took to calling it. Everything that Harry taught Dexter, was monstrous. He could have helped Dexter in a different way, as Debra made very clear and even Dexter began to believe that Harry never even tried.

My favorite book series was turned into the _worst_ TV show, but _Dexter_ is the opposite of that. Jeff Lindsay is a terrible, unoriginal writer obsessed with alliteration, and I feel duty-bound to encourage you to not put yourself through his nonsense. The _Dexter_ books have no character development whatsoever-they’re all as shallow as sitcom episodes-and book!Dexter is a completely unfeeling and insufferable ignoramus who thinks he’s a freaking genius while doing the stupidest things imaginable. Lindsay makes the most horrible, misogynistic plot decisions possible, there isn’t even one single well-written character in the entire book series, and every part of it is meaningless and soul-sucking. I hated every moment I was forcing myself to read those books. I normally love reading and hate TV, but making my way through that book series felt like I was pulling out my own teeth, and I loved the _Dexter_ TV show, which is nothing at all like the books. I have to advise you to avoid those books like the plague. If you want to read some really great books that revolve around murder, I’d recommend the novels of Thomas Harris.
Mine too! I bought the entire series on TH-cam, so I can watch every episode on my phone, my laptop, no matter where I am! I literally watch it every day! As soon as I finish the very last episode, I go right back to Season 1, and start it all over again! And the crazy thing is, even though I have seen every episode at least 50 times, I still find new things, or notice things I had never noticed before, every time I watch it! I have been waiting for SO LONG, for Dexter to come back! Ever since I saw on my Google news feed, last October, that there was going to be a 9th season, I have been counting down the days until November 7! I sure hope Michael C. Hall, and Clyde Phillips don't let me, and my fellow Dexter fans, down!
I just read that Jennifer Carpenter is going to be a series regular. Since Deb died in the series finale, I figured the only way they could bring her back was having her in flashbacks. Then, I read that James Remar, the actor who played Dexter's and Deb's dad, Harry Morgan, wasn't coming back for this new season. Since he isn't coming back, and won't be playing the part of Dexter's conscience, I figured Deb was going to be "the new Harry," and be Dexter's conscience. Jennifer Carpenter was at some event last week, and she announced that Deb was going to be like Harry, and be like Dexter's inner voice. She also said that Deb would be guiding Dexter, and also haunting him. Maybe Deb is going to haunt Dexter, blaming him for her death, and that he is the reason she died, and reminding him that he, and his dark passenger, are responsible for the deaths of a lot of innocent people. **SPOILER ALERT!! IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED DEXTER, OR HAVEN'T SEEN SEASONS 4 AND 8, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER!** If Dexter had killed Trinity the first time he had the chance, his wife Rita would have not been one of Trinity's victims. If Dexter had killed Olive Saxon the first time he had a chance, he wouldn't have shot Deb. She wouldn't have been in the hospital, she wouldn't have had a stroke after her surgery, her brain wouldn't have been deprived of oxygen, and she wouldn't have been a vegetable for the rest of her life. I was actually so happy, and excited to hear that Deb was coming back for this new season. It just wouldn't be the same without Deb. Also, John Lithgow, who played Trinity/Arthur Mitchell in Season 4, will be making an appearance in one of the new episodes. He said it will be a flashback, and his part only took one day to film. I don't care if he was on there for just a few seconds, I would still be excited about it!

I watched Dexter for her in the first place. Now she will get me to watch it again. Also, His dad wasn't his conscience. It was the dark passenger. His advice wasn't noble. it was selfish.
I love Michael C Hall as an actor, and this is the show that made me realize how incredible he is. He was the perfect fit for Dexter. Although vastly different from the novels, the TV series remains one of my all time favorites.
Many don't like the ending, but it makes sense. I thought it was pretty cool to boat into a hurricane. It's kind of poetic and represented his life and the direction it was going symbolically. Dexter had to find a way to fake his death. His whole world came crashing down after the death of his sister. Also, with all the deaths around him I think he was losing his anonymity and needed to start over. This will be a good new season I think.

I was totally obsessed with this show and loved the finale! As excited as I am for the show to return, being a limited series, I feel like they’re gonna kill him off and, if they do, I will not be happy at all! As one of my overall favorite TV shows I ever watched and even though I was disappointed by the original series finale, I’m so excited for this new reboot.
There has been a truck driving around in my tiny little town with a giant poster that says DEXTER. Couldn’t figure it out since the show has been over for years. Now I know why. Can’t wait to see it.
When writing a tv show, the conclusion to any situation or season or series needs to be entertaining, and then worry about if it makes sense for the character last. If something makes sense for a character, but is not entertaining...then forego the "making sense for the character" and go with the entertaining writing/ending instead. By "making sense" I do not mean make it unbelievable, but that writers tend to write with the guiding principal "If this character was a real person...what would totally be in-character for them to do?" - which isn't always the best tactic. Sure, it makes sense for Dexter that he would want to bury his own sister in his own way, protect others by running away, dump Deb's body, etc....but go with the ending that first and foremost is entertaining...and don't worry about always "making sense for the character." In reality, the more entertaining ending would not be what Dexter would realistically do...but have Dexter be undeniably found out and show everyone's reaction to having finally found out the absolute truth that can not be hidden or taken back.
Michael is truly an amazing actor. So glad Dexter is coming back. Cant wait. Own the series and pull it out quite often to rewatch. Lol sounds kinda sick. Love to all the cast of Dexter. Thank you Sirius XM for this video. ❤️
I always knew Deb was going to be his dark passenger ever since he folded her in to his kill life. It was too messy when she was alive, now that he properly absorbed her internally carpenter's role is going to be hilarious, wearing matching kill outfits when the night's the night etc. Love this.
very glad to see this show come back, i hope they bring back more old gold shows, also very happy to know that the story for this season is good, the show seems very up to date, the effects, camera play, production, everything is top notch & the actors are all pretty good, i'm happy he hasn't changed & still has that dexter character on lock, hope to 7 more seasons after this one
Absolutely can’t wait. I’m in the minority who really loved the ending (it wasn’t perfect, but just that last scene showing he lived). My fiancée hadn’t seen it, so we watched during the beginning of the pandemic. Right toward the end, the announcement came out of the new season- it was so thrilling. (But it spoiled the ending for her 😂) We can’t wait!
I just recently rewatch all season. I had this desire to hear the theme song, and I was just going to do that... but .. totally got sucked into first watching only the opening, so Incoukd see Dexter walk out of his apartment with that little smirk and look at the camera ❤️ it! And Before I knew ... I’m in episode 5 hahaha And yes! I to forget how funny it was through everything.. and how much I loved listening to Dexters inner monologue.
I think the problem with the ending to s8 was more the execution. Like, I wish Hannah would've never been brought back in. The show had fairly great driving points with the new true succesor of Dexter only to be offed by the brain surgeon. It was literally just a repeat of Jeremy. Instead of forcing Hannah back in, it could've focused on Deb and Dexter deciding to leave and letting fogal help create the next Dexter. The brain surgeon could still kill her and maybe Dexter and his minni me could've worked together to take him down Then, instead of the nonsense of Dexter calling Deb to arrest the dude, maybe there's a cat and mouse game and Deb shows up and rather than taking two episodes to die, she gets Merced on the spot. He could then take Debs body to the ocean, like in the original ending, and dump her because in the end she too was one of his victims. After that, Dex could realize he's destructive to everyone, and leave Harrison to either Angel or Cody and Astor's grandparents. Then he does the fake death. Personally, there are some great moments in s8 but the writing and execution were just all over the place. And I think it mostly stimmed from Hannah being forced back in which caused the narrative to loose focus. But that's just me. I've watched this series countless times, I've even read the books, and I'm happy it's getting a second chance. I just hope there's a surprise mother fucker

My 1st watch and the opening starts...this is creepy, but I cannot not look. What IS this? Ten minutes in...I love this! Binged for a week. Bought every season. Watch it all the time.
After rewatching the show, just finished, I really don't understand the hate now. I'm putting my review I just made for the show on amazon for the 8th season on my thoughts. Review: Spoilers ahead obviously If you haven't seen this season yet, you've probably heard from every single person that's watched this show that this season is horrible and that the ending is awful. Upon rewatching the show, I've come to realize just how good it actually is. When you look back on the entirety of the show, whenever something is going good for Dexter's life, what ends up happening? That's right, tragedy follows. Whether its his many attempts at friends/apprentices, his wife dying, Lumen leaving, or having to give up Hannah, among many other things, it just goes to show that his life isn't sustainable. Its almost like a public service announcement that there's no rewards to that life and it was stupid for him to think he could have any control over the rest of his life that he felt in kill killing. That last shot of Dexter staring at the camera is almost like a warning to anyone watching. Him finally coming to the realization that he was as much as a cancer that he was a hero and still not going through with offing himself, just shows what type of person he was. After finishing this time, I am a little less excited for the new season, though still very interested to see what they come up with. From what is sounds like, the people working on the show along with Michael all make it out like its their way of making it up to the fans and making a good ending, but I'm now realizing I have no problems with this one. Another aspect of the show I recognized while rewatching the whole show is just how awful all the people around Dexter's life are. From his own sister, to his coworkers, and family, they are just pretty awful people, at least in some parts of their lives. Whether they are vulgar, very loose, cheaters, dirty cops, selfish, greedy, foul mouthed, psychos, cowards, etc. I'm not sure what the message could be exactly, but that people are awful in general, whether they're serial killers or not? Or like how some people on the show would praise the deaths of all the scum he put down, but if they were to find out it was done by him, they would be in shock and disgust. idk.
The backlash was annoying, considering how it brought to conclusion Dexter's attempt to lead a normal life and be a killer at the same time. He winds up in how own version of prison away from hurting anyone else. I am not sure what viewers wanted? Was the character supposed to get caught in the end? Get away with it all? Either choice would leave the other group of fans betrayed.

Seasons 5-8 sucked because it turned from the crime drama about a serial killer it was in Seasons 1-4, a killer who killed worse people than himself and Dexter's attempts to blend in and pretend to be normal while satisfying his urge to kill and avoid being caught. Seasons 1-4 made clear that he was a bad guy killing worse people and showed that while he might have done Miami a favour by killing scumbags he didn't do it to save innocent lives but because he liked it and it satisfied his need. It was also supposed to end with him being found out, caught and executed which would have been a fitting ending but after Clyde Phillips stepped down as showrunner and Scott Buck replaced him it was clear Buck and his team knew nothing about the show or character since they turned it from a crime drama into a bad romance and family drama. Seasons 5-8 Dexter was portrayed not as the serial killer posing as a normal guy he's supposed to be but as an actual normal guy and the killing is treated as a random side hobby. He also goes from morally ambiguous anti hero at best and villain protagonist at worst to being painted as an out and out hero who's completely justified in his actions when that was never his character. In 1-4 Rita and Lila were his only serious relationships. In 5-8 he gets with Lumen, is blown by a random woman at his high school reunion, has sex with a random girl at a truck stop in Nebraska, the out of nowhere Deb loving him thing which they at least had the good sense to drop. Then there was the worst part of the last 2 seasons. Hannah "Buck's wet dream" McKay.
To her point about it being funny, yes. I completely agree. I've always thought one of the best things about the show is the masterful use of dark comedy. *Spoilers for a season three episode* In the episode where he kills the pedophile, it begins with Rita asking Dexter to pick milk up on his way home. At the very end, after he's killed the guy, he simply looks at his fridge, and in the next scene, they have milk back at home. That's absolutely HILARIOUS. That remains one of my favorite episodes for so many reasons, that being one of them.
To bring the show back a decade later makes complete sense enough time has passed where Dexter can really make some changes and it’ll be nice to see his son too
I loved the show Dexter! I had a Dexter watch party for the last episode. The main reasons I appreciated it were the writing & the cast were all so over the top amazing. I was like, "WTF?!" with the ending, tho, so I looked up the producers to see what they might have to say about why they wrote it that way. It's weird, but I loved this character and I kinda understood why they wrote that last scene the way they did, but it left me almost grief stricken for Dex! Michael gave him life, charm, humor and a sort of vulnerability. I had seen him in 6 Feet Under and thought he was brilliant. Also have seen some stage performances of his that will make you fall in love with him a little!
I am so excited Dexter is back!!! The first 2 episodes are so great. It's really hard to wait 7 days for the next episode. Harrison returning as a teenager is great. I just love Dexter so much❤🔪😊
One of my shared Co Space workers who was an insane Dexter series (I haven’t known him long but a great, smart successful guy n dad, and one of my all time besties this was her fav show back in the day) and he said this new season was HORRIBLE, literally he was disgusted by how bad. I have no idea as was never one to watch any ‘murderer’ disturbing shows but hey hats off to this lead guy looks good (of course Zoom and most all screen share platforms very ‘forgiving’ physically) and seems like nice grounded guy so DEF respect his humility
When I read the advertising info as the show was ready to be released way, way back; my first thoughts were "gross". It didn't take long for me to change my mind and love it!
Michael C plays the character so well because we believe in his character as Dexter who is a likeable guy who can be charming and yet he is a serial killer which is conflicting. I just love the series and enjoy the contrast of what is good and bad and trying to understand who is Dexter Morgan inside. It's just a very well written show with a fantastic cast. Look forward to the Dexter Reboot and Michael still looks great and hasn't aged one bit.
He plays the role so well, I see him as Dexter in the 30+ shows I’ve seen in my life only one other actor has had that effect and that is Bryan Cranston as Walter White in Breaking Bad, he fucking killed it in Breaking Bad him and Michael are similar that they play their characters so well that you just couldn’t fathom someone else playing them.
That is a very long and arduous way to explain that people did not like the ending. This is going to be a much better final chapter for the show, one worthy of Dexter. Also i agree with her comment on this show being funny. It's one of the funniest shows i have ever seen and it's about killing people. That's kind of incredible. "Do I see sheets of plastic in your future?"
I don't know how they had a show about a serial killer who works for the police that never touched on what happens once the police find out he's a serial killer. That would be like Lois Lane never finding out Clark is Superman by the end of the series. Dexter literally had the perfect last season premise and instead they just partially wasted it in season 2 and with laguerta. It would have been fascinating to watch a season of Miami PD chasing him. Just getting to see the different characters in the department and which ones defend his actions and how they react to their friend being this monster would have been worth it.

I can't really see him just turning a corner and his dark passenger stopping. That would be a very hard sell and leave fans the hope that would come back for closure again
@@qp773 It wouldn’t be a hard turn at all if dexter, after learning about Harry and Vogel, after causing deb to die and leaving Harrison with Hannah for years, Dexter could just want his life to exist with any family he can be find again, that means if Harrison shows up dexter might just kill who he needs to if anyone is following Harrison to keep him, his girlfriend, and Harrison safe. I think dexter at this point could refocus his dark passenger further and only kill those who deserve it- the people who try and hurt him or his family.

Season 1-4 Dexter is very different from what they turned him to. He cares about Deb and people around him because they are part of his tribe but he doesn't have normal love for them the way a normal person does.
Not to mention the whole show's focus was on the fact that he has this dark passenger that he can't control and had to find an outlet. For him to suddenly be able to say "oh I can just turn it off because I care more about the people around me" would basically be saying that he never had to do it at all to begin with and everything Harry taught him was basically monstrous because he didn't need the outlet.

Season 8 makes it very clear that Dexter isn't just some 'psychopath', nor is he the 'Perfect Psychopath' that Vogel thought he was. He has emotions. He has care for people. The reason as to why seasons 1-4 he only cares for people as a "tribe" is because Harry and Vogel struck it so deep into Dexter that he was an unfeeling psychopath who was only ever going to live by deceiving everybody and staying safe from the law. It was both Harry and Vogel that put this deep-seeded belief in Dexter and the two of them largely shaped who Dexter was going to become as an adult, he trusted his Father fully to guide him to the best answer.
Your last paragraph hits the point home. He never had to do it to begin with, it was something he always felt the 'need' to do, only after Harry taught him it was alright to kill bad people. Prior Dexter had killed animals and tried to hide them, and when he was caught by Harry it seems like he knew it was wrong what he did. If Harry had taken a bit of a harder stance and actually tried to help him instead of channeling his urges, we wouldn't have a Dexter show.
Ultimately though, Dexter never had a 'Dark Passenger'. And that's apparent when you realize that the Harry that Dex always talks to when he's alone is a figment of his own imagination, it's his conscience speaking back to him. And he makes it clear to himself that Harry never taught him to call it the 'Dark Passenger'. All Harry said was that it got in too early, and was going to be with him forever. Dexter interpreted this as a 'Dark Passenger' which he took to calling it. Everything that Harry taught Dexter, was monstrous. He could have helped Dexter in a different way, as Debra made very clear and even Dexter began to believe that Harry never even tried.
I’ve watched every episode & most 2-3+ times over the years, I never thought I’d get into this type of “story style”..after the 3 rd I was hooKed! Hope to see New Soon)

My favorite book series was turned into the _worst_ TV show, but _Dexter_ is the opposite of that. Jeff Lindsay is a terrible, unoriginal writer obsessed with alliteration, and I feel duty-bound to encourage you to not put yourself through his nonsense.
The _Dexter_ books have no character development whatsoever-they’re all as shallow as sitcom episodes-and book!Dexter is a completely unfeeling and insufferable ignoramus who thinks he’s a freaking genius while doing the stupidest things imaginable. Lindsay makes the most horrible, misogynistic plot decisions possible, there isn’t even one single well-written character in the entire book series, and every part of it is meaningless and soul-sucking. I hated every moment I was forcing myself to read those books.
I normally love reading and hate TV, but making my way through that book series felt like I was pulling out my own teeth, and I loved the _Dexter_ TV show, which is nothing at all like the books. I have to advise you to avoid those books like the plague.
If you want to read some really great books that revolve around murder, I’d recommend the novels of Thomas Harris.
I am currently rewatch all season for the 5th time. It still grabs me.

Mine too! I bought the entire series on TH-cam, so I can watch every episode on my phone, my laptop, no matter where I am! I literally watch it every day! As soon as I finish the very last episode, I go right back to Season 1, and start it all over again! And the crazy thing is, even though I have seen every episode at least 50 times, I still find new things, or notice things I had never noticed before, every time I watch it! I have been waiting for SO LONG, for Dexter to come back! Ever since I saw on my Google news feed, last October, that there was going to be a 9th season, I have been counting down the days until November 7! I sure hope Michael C. Hall, and Clyde Phillips don't let me, and my fellow Dexter fans, down!

I just read that Jennifer Carpenter is going to be a series regular. Since Deb died in the series finale, I figured the only way they could bring her back was having her in flashbacks. Then, I read that James Remar, the actor who played Dexter's and Deb's dad, Harry Morgan, wasn't coming back for this new season. Since he isn't coming back, and won't be playing the part of Dexter's conscience, I figured Deb was going to be "the new Harry," and be Dexter's conscience. Jennifer Carpenter was at some event last week, and she announced that Deb was going to be like Harry, and be like Dexter's inner voice. She also said that Deb would be guiding Dexter, and also haunting him. Maybe Deb is going to haunt Dexter, blaming him for her death, and that he is the reason she died, and reminding him that he, and his dark passenger, are responsible for the deaths of a lot of innocent people. **SPOILER ALERT!! IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED DEXTER, OR HAVEN'T SEEN SEASONS 4 AND 8, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER!** If Dexter had killed Trinity the first time he had the chance, his wife Rita would have not been one of Trinity's victims. If Dexter had killed Olive Saxon the first time he had a chance, he wouldn't have shot Deb. She wouldn't have been in the hospital, she wouldn't have had a stroke after her surgery, her brain wouldn't have been deprived of oxygen, and she wouldn't have been a vegetable for the rest of her life. I was actually so happy, and excited to hear that Deb was coming back for this new season. It just wouldn't be the same without Deb. Also, John Lithgow, who played Trinity/Arthur Mitchell in Season 4, will be making an appearance in one of the new episodes. He said it will be a flashback, and his part only took one day to film. I don't care if he was on there for just a few seconds, I would still be excited about it!

I love Michael C Hall as an actor, and this is the show that made me realize how incredible he is. He was the perfect fit for Dexter. Although vastly different from the novels, the TV series remains one of my all time favorites.
The show and the character both deserve a proper ending.

Many don't like the ending, but it makes sense. I thought it was pretty cool to boat into a hurricane.
It's kind of poetic and represented his life and the direction it was going symbolically. Dexter had to find a way to fake his death. His whole world came crashing down after the death of his sister. Also, with all the deaths around him I think he was losing his anonymity and needed to start over. This will be a good new season I think.
He abandoned his son to a psychopathic murderer who killed anyone close to her that was inconvenient.

When writing a tv show, the conclusion to any situation or season or series needs to be entertaining, and then worry about if it makes sense for the character last. If something makes sense for a character, but is not entertaining...then forego the "making sense for the character" and go with the entertaining writing/ending instead. By "making sense" I do not mean make it unbelievable, but that writers tend to write with the guiding principal "If this character was a real person...what would totally be in-character for them to do?" - which isn't always the best tactic. Sure, it makes sense for Dexter that he would want to bury his own sister in his own way, protect others by running away, dump Deb's body, etc....but go with the ending that first and foremost is entertaining...and don't worry about always "making sense for the character." In reality, the more entertaining ending would not be what Dexter would realistically do...but have Dexter be undeniably found out and show everyone's reaction to having finally found out the absolute truth that can not be hidden or taken back.
Michael is truly an amazing actor. So glad Dexter is coming back. Cant wait. Own the series and pull it out quite often to rewatch. Lol sounds kinda sick. Love to all the cast of Dexter. Thank you Sirius XM for this video. ❤️

I always knew Deb was going to be his dark passenger ever since he folded her in to his kill life. It was too messy when she was alive, now that he properly absorbed her internally carpenter's role is going to be hilarious, wearing matching kill outfits when the night's the night etc. Love this.
very glad to see this show come back, i hope they bring back more old gold shows, also very happy to know that the story for this season is good, the show seems very up to date, the effects, camera play, production, everything is top notch & the actors are all pretty good, i'm happy he hasn't changed & still has that dexter character on lock, hope to 7 more seasons after this one
Absolutely can’t wait. I’m in the minority who really loved the ending (it wasn’t perfect, but just that last scene showing he lived). My fiancée hadn’t seen it, so we watched during the beginning of the pandemic. Right toward the end, the announcement came out of the new season- it was so thrilling. (But it spoiled the ending for her 😂) We can’t wait!
I just recently rewatch all season. I had this desire to hear the theme song, and I was just going to do that...
but .. totally got sucked into first watching only the opening, so Incoukd see Dexter walk out of his apartment with that little smirk and look at the camera ❤️ it!

And yes! I to forget how funny it was through everything.. and how much I loved listening to Dexters inner monologue.
I think the problem with the ending to s8 was more the execution. Like, I wish Hannah would've never been brought back in. The show had fairly great driving points with the new true succesor of Dexter only to be offed by the brain surgeon. It was literally just a repeat of Jeremy. Instead of forcing Hannah back in, it could've focused on Deb and Dexter deciding to leave and letting fogal help create the next Dexter.
The brain surgeon could still kill her and maybe Dexter and his minni me could've worked together to take him down
Then, instead of the nonsense of Dexter calling Deb to arrest the dude, maybe there's a cat and mouse game and Deb shows up and rather than taking two episodes to die, she gets Merced on the spot.
He could then take Debs body to the ocean, like in the original ending, and dump her because in the end she too was one of his victims.
After that, Dex could realize he's destructive to everyone, and leave Harrison to either Angel or Cody and Astor's grandparents.
Then he does the fake death.
Personally, there are some great moments in s8 but the writing and execution were just all over the place. And I think it mostly stimmed from Hannah being forced back in which caused the narrative to loose focus.
But that's just me.
I've watched this series countless times, I've even read the books, and I'm happy it's getting a second chance.

My 1st watch and the opening starts...this is creepy, but I cannot not look. What IS this? Ten minutes in...I love this! Binged for a week. Bought every season. Watch it all the time.
After rewatching the show, just finished, I really don't understand the hate now. I'm putting my review I just made for the show on amazon for the 8th season on my thoughts.

If you haven't seen this season yet, you've probably heard from every single person that's watched this show that this season is horrible and that the ending is awful. Upon rewatching the show, I've come to realize just how good it actually is.
When you look back on the entirety of the show, whenever something is going good for Dexter's life, what ends up happening? That's right, tragedy follows.
Whether its his many attempts at friends/apprentices, his wife dying, Lumen leaving, or having to give up Hannah, among many other things, it just goes to show that his life isn't sustainable. Its almost like a public service announcement that there's no rewards to that life and it was stupid for him to think he could have any control over the rest of his life that he felt in kill killing. That last shot of Dexter staring at the camera is almost like a warning to anyone watching.
Him finally coming to the realization that he was as much as a cancer that he was a hero and still not going through with offing himself, just shows what type of person he was.
After finishing this time, I am a little less excited for the new season, though still very interested to see what they come up with. From what is sounds like, the people working on the show along with Michael all make it out like its their way of making it up to the fans and making a good ending, but I'm now realizing I have no problems with this one.
Another aspect of the show I recognized while rewatching the whole show is just how awful all the people around Dexter's life are. From his own sister, to his coworkers, and family, they are just pretty awful people, at least in some parts of their lives.
Whether they are vulgar, very loose, cheaters, dirty cops, selfish, greedy, foul mouthed, psychos, cowards, etc. I'm not sure what the message could be exactly, but that people are awful in general, whether they're serial killers or not? Or like how some people on the show would praise the deaths of all the scum he put down, but if they were to find out it was done by him, they would be in shock and disgust. idk.
The backlash was annoying, considering how it brought to conclusion Dexter's attempt to lead a normal life and be a killer at the same time. He winds up in how own version of prison away from hurting anyone else. I am not sure what viewers wanted? Was the character supposed to get caught in the end? Get away with it all? Either choice would leave the other group of fans betrayed.
@@belialbradley222 I feel like people grew attached to him and wanted him to have this goodfeel cookie cutter hallmark movie ending or something? Like you said, what did they expect to happen? I feel like they let their emotions about Deb and other stuff get in the way of realizing just how good the ending was.
Not to say the writing was perfect in the last season, but I feel like the ending made perfect sense now.

@@ShaggyDabbyDank Well, Not sure what you mean by that. I was referencing how after everything that happened to him, really because of him, he was still in survival mode even if he ended up all alone with nothing. Maybe my analysis is wrong, but its just what I personally saw.
Seasons 5-8 sucked because it turned from the crime drama about a serial killer it was in Seasons 1-4, a killer who killed worse people than himself and Dexter's attempts to blend in and pretend to be normal while satisfying his urge to kill and avoid being caught. Seasons 1-4 made clear that he was a bad guy killing worse people and showed that while he might have done Miami a favour by killing scumbags he didn't do it to save innocent lives but because he liked it and it satisfied his need. It was also supposed to end with him being found out, caught and executed which would have been a fitting ending but after Clyde Phillips stepped down as showrunner and Scott Buck replaced him it was clear Buck and his team knew nothing about the show or character since they turned it from a crime drama into a bad romance and family drama. Seasons 5-8 Dexter was portrayed not as the serial killer posing as a normal guy he's supposed to be but as an actual normal guy and the killing is treated as a random side hobby. He also goes from morally ambiguous anti hero at best and villain protagonist at worst to being painted as an out and out hero who's completely justified in his actions when that was never his character. In 1-4 Rita and Lila were his only serious relationships. In 5-8 he gets with Lumen, is blown by a random woman at his high school reunion, has sex with a random girl at a truck stop in Nebraska, the out of nowhere Deb loving him thing which they at least had the good sense to drop. Then there was the worst part of the last 2 seasons. Hannah "Buck's wet dream" McKay.
THIS IS A MIRACLE IN THE MAKING. LOVE THIS IDEA. HAPPY AS HELL TO SEE IT COME BACK
I hope it opens to more seasons.

To her point about it being funny, yes. I completely agree. I've always thought one of the best things about the show is the masterful use of dark comedy.

In the episode where he kills the pedophile, it begins with Rita asking Dexter to pick milk up on his way home. At the very end, after he's killed the guy, he simply looks at his fridge, and in the next scene, they have milk back at home. That's absolutely HILARIOUS. That remains one of my favorite episodes for so many reasons, that being one of them.
He is Amazing full of talent can’t wait!
To bring the show back a decade later makes complete sense enough time has passed where Dexter can really make some changes and it’ll be nice to see his son too

I loved the show Dexter! I had a Dexter watch party for the last episode. The main reasons I appreciated it were the writing & the cast were all so over the top amazing. I was like, "WTF?!" with the ending, tho, so I looked up the producers to see what they might have to say about why they wrote it that way. It's weird, but I loved this character and I kinda understood why they wrote that last scene the way they did, but it left me almost grief stricken for Dex! Michael gave him life, charm, humor and a sort of vulnerability. I had seen him in 6 Feet Under and thought he was brilliant. Also have seen some stage performances of his that will make you fall in love with him a little!
The funniest moment of the whole 106 episodes is the car ride with Dex, Hanna and Zach Hamilton as a happy family of serial killers, just killer

One of my shared Co Space workers who was an insane Dexter series (I haven’t known him long but a great, smart successful guy n dad, and one of my all time besties this was her fav show back in the day) and he said this new season was HORRIBLE, literally he was disgusted by how bad. I have no idea as was never one to watch any ‘murderer’ disturbing shows but hey hats off to this lead guy looks good (of course Zoom and most all screen share platforms very ‘forgiving’ physically) and seems like nice grounded guy so DEF respect his humility
When I read the advertising info as the show was ready to be released way, way back; my first thoughts were "gross".
It didn't take long for me to change my mind and love it!
Michael C plays the character so well because we believe in his character as Dexter who is a likeable guy who can be charming and yet he is a serial killer which is conflicting. I just love the series and enjoy the contrast of what is good and bad and trying to understand who is Dexter Morgan inside. It's just a very well written show with a fantastic cast. Look forward to the Dexter Reboot and Michael still looks great and hasn't aged one bit.

He plays the role so well, I see him as Dexter in the 30+ shows I’ve seen in my life only one other actor has had that effect and that is Bryan Cranston as Walter White in Breaking Bad, he fucking killed it in Breaking Bad him and Michael are similar that they play their characters so well that you just couldn’t fathom someone else playing them.

That is a very long and arduous way to explain that people did not like the ending. This is going to be a much better final chapter for the show, one worthy of Dexter. Also i agree with her comment on this show being funny. It's one of the funniest shows i have ever seen and it's about killing people. That's kind of incredible. "Do I see sheets of plastic in your future?"

I don't know how they had a show about a serial killer who works for the police that never touched on what happens once the police find out he's a serial killer.
That would be like Lois Lane never finding out Clark is Superman by the end of the series.
Dexter literally had the perfect last season premise and instead they just partially wasted it in season 2 and with laguerta. It would have been fascinating to watch a season of Miami PD chasing him. Just getting to see the different characters in the department and which ones defend his actions and how they react to their friend being this monster would have been worth it.
