Its good to see this type of tutorial now days. For us guys that have been flying LOS way before FPV. We take it for granted. Its incredible how many FPV pilots can't fly LOS and don't know the old tricks of the trade,
Thanks Amar. There is a lack of beginners videos for LOS these days. None with ETHOS as far as I know. So hopefully this will help a few folks out. Totally agree; even if you mostly fly FPV. Being able to fly LOS is extremely useful.
Just what I was looking for. New frisky x18s with a new archer plus gr8. Registered and bind complete with no servo command. So now on to updates. Good video! New sub.
You can get SmartPort sensors for battery voltage and set them up to give warnings. However, I’ve found them to be unreliable on powered models. Due to sag, they read low more often than not and trigger false alarms. I find using a throttle percentage timer more useful for flight time. However the voltage sensors work great with gliders. You can use logic to only check the voltage after the motor has been off for X seconds. So sag isn’t an issue.
Thanks for this. I’m new to ethos but not new to flying or other radios. I fly gliders mainly. Could you make a video specific to powered and non powered full house gliders, please? Trying to learn how to set up flight modes - launch, speed, cruise, thermal - and having trouble. Thanks for the videos!
Hi Jun. I have that on the list. I will be using the e-Soar model for that video. I highly recommend that for full house setups. It is a fantastic transmitter model. rc-soar.com/ethos/
@@MrD Thanks very much, Mr. D! I’ll play around with this template. Hopefully, I’ll be able to make it work and get used to before international dlg contest in 3 weeks! Lol
Thank you. I don't have the RadioMaster TX16S. But I do have a Horus X10S Express running OpenTX; which will be identical to the your transmitter. I could add videos for that. I thought there may already be plenty on the subject. But happy to add my spin in the future.
@@MrDThanks, BTW FrSky looks like a really daunting platform at first, so its tempting as a noob to go for Spektrum, but your videos have helped me decide to go FrSky. Ordering an X18 now :)
I am trying to setup a brand new scale model aircraft with retractable landing gear. I have 1 engine, 2 ailerons, 2 flaps, 1 elevator, 1 rudder and 1 gear. But the widget only foresees for 7 channels. Would you be so kind to explain how to add additional channels since the very beginning? Thanks in advance
Sorry, I don't follow you? You can add many mixes to perform the tasks that you are wanting. There are also 64 outputs. Where are you only seeing the 7 channels? Widget is what the little displays (for telemetry etc) on the main screen.
I just bought the radio two weeks ago, and I am not very familiar with Ethos. I was following your fantastic video to create a brand new plane (Curtiss P40 scale that I built from scratch following the top flite design), and I didn't know how to add a new channel to the initial list provided by the widget. It would be nice if the widget for a brand new aircraft would take also in account the landing gear. For scale modelers would be fantastic. I am used to edgetx, so I guess transition will cost me a little. Thanks anyway for your help and your outstanding videos.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge on Ethos! Just bought an X18 and is struggling to set up my RES glider. How do I get the rudder to work on the right stick? I managed to assign the spoilers to a switch and the throttle is on the left stick as normal but I need the rudder to be controlled with the right stick together with the elevator. Is it at all possible with this transmitter? Thanks in advance for your input!
What version firmware are you running on those S8R receivers? I can't get mine to bind like that on either of my X9 D plus, or my X 18. All transmitters are running the latest firmware, as are the receivers.
Hi Darren thank you for all your videos I’ve been trying to do a update with the x20 following your video for people that are not computer literate I’ve done as you said but now the transmitter has gone blank any idea or advice you can give me please
That sounds strange. Was the update process interrupted in any way? At what point did the screen go blank? During the update there is always something shown on screen.
Getting in to boot-loader mode is a good sign. I would maybe leave it plugged in for an hour or so, just to ensure the battery is topped up. Then try the update process again. I would probably download the 1.1.4 firmware again, and double check the hardware target is correct. Put the firmware.bin file on the root of the SD card, then unplug the USB. At that point you should see a message on the screen that the firmware is updating.
They don’t if there is only 1 pin connector. But and receiver with more than 4 channels can have ailerons on 2 channels. Which allows more precise setup for each aileron.
You most likely need to calibrate the ESC. The instructions for this can vary from ESC to ESC. But there is some basic guidance here th-cam.com/video/VrxJbj11Hb4/w-d-xo.html
@@MrD no is to different! In open tx there is a special function, named overraid, that you can apply to anche channel. Throttle cut is another function
@@IspettoriCQ yes, in OpenTX you had to use channel override to make your own throttle cut. Because the feature did not exist. ETHOS is easier because you just use throttle cut with the switch you want. For electric planes check the sticky is on. Then when the switch is set, the throttle doesn’t work. When you arem the plane (disable the throttle cut). The throttle has to be low before the motor starts spinning. It works well.

Thanks! so much for these great videos, just getting back into RC, and they help navigating the new technologies.
Awesome Bruce. Welcome back to the hobby. I’m glad the video is helping you.
Great video, LOS is something that I need to learn in case I'll have a VTX/camera issue. Thank you.
It is very useful in those situations. Being able to confidently land with no video is much better than panicking if the video goes out.

Welcome back Mike. I’m glad the video was helpful. Hope you have some great flights in the near future.
Thanks for all the great videos. Can you advise if it’s possible to use a current sensor and set up voice warning of in flight battery capacity?

They are excellent transmitter models. Mike has a DLG specific model on OpenTX. But it’s not yet on the ETHOS models.

How did the receiver get power? Via the thrust connection to the ESC?
Yes. With typical foam plane setups like this. The receiver and servos are powered from the BEC in the ESC.

To be honest, I've never used one of those ESCs. It should document in the ESC manual how it needs to be set up.
Hi Can I get "Intant Trim" Ethos on X18S like with open system?
It’s coming in version 1.5.

How can it possibile to put with a switch for block security elettric motor? I camere from x9d plus opentx, and is vero difficult to ethos. Thank
It’s very easy in ETHOS. You just go to the throttle mix and add a throttle cut. When the switch is active. The throttle won’t work.
