Calvin Johnson is probably the greatest NFL athlete ever. Look at his NFL Combine measurements. A 12 foot 3 inch standing broad jump?! A 4.35 forty time?! All at a strong 6'5", 235lb frame. This man was a superhuman specimen. He's the Secretariat of football. If Calvin Johnson had played on one of the better Patriot teams, their offense would have been unstoppable.
The man made Reggie Ball, an undersized rollout QB look good at Georgia Tech, even though he was getting double teamed like Larry Fitzgerald used to in his college days.
He also retired at 30 in the prime of his career. He had 3 more years of top of the nfl years left in him and at his physical stature that may have been 6+ years of pro bowl seasons. So yeah his numbers are not as gaudy as other receivers, but stack them by yearly averages and you get rice, moss, Harrison, TO, Fitzgerald, and Holt type of numbers.

The best WR ever in my eyes. Injuries and lack of longevity kept him from having all the stats to back it, but there's no 1 WR I'd pick over him in their prime.
@@xxlegoteenxx Moss was also a beast, but for me, Megatron could run more/better routes. Moss was mostly about the fly route and using only his speed and ability to high point the ball. Megatron was way stronger.
In 1 game, Moss caught 3 catches for 153 yrds and 3 TDs. He just gets TDs. That is why he holds the rookie record and the single season record for TDs.
@@xxlegoteenxx Moss was certainly a TD machine. There's no taking that away from him. I've never seen a guy time and time again beat out multiple defenders for jump balls the way Megatron did. Especially with the unbalanced offense, knowing the ball was going to him in triple coverage. They're my top 2 and I'm good with either 1 being first.
The Johnson's, Calvin and Andre, two quiet, hard working WRs. No swag, no show off, just pure concentration and dedication. I hope we'll see more of these WRs in the future.
Diehard Lions fan since 09 (Stafford rookie year) 22 years old now definitely my 2 favorite Lions growing up man I still loved his 12 year career here...and Calvin's unforgettable career here too definitely was great watching CalvIn💯💯🔥🔥🔥
Same here man. I remember growing up with that stafford and megatron duo. Even though we weren’t a winning team was always proud to root for my boys. Even remember writing Calvin Johnson as my idol on a school project. Things are looking up for us now, big things to come for the Lions and I’m excited as ever.
I still get chills up my spine watching Calvin "MEGATRON" Johnson do what he do! ELECTRIFYING AF! A once in a lifetime talent/player! #ONEPRIDETILLIDIE 🏈🦁💙🙌💪👀
Aaron T Jahvid Best, Ameer Abdullah, KJ, and now Swift. We’ve always had good RBs. But that don’t matter with our crap OLine blocking. We employed the worst OL coaches in Ron Prince and Jeff Davidson. And they were even worse in the Millen/Mayhew era
Watching, quite literally, a once in a lifetime talent walk away from his game so early makes us sad, right? As witnesses we feel that deep genuine melancholy. Maybe because it subtly reminds all of us of our own impending mortality. Ultimately, we all must walk away from our games in the end, and it’s rarely ever on our own terms. When you think about it like that, you can’t help but feel proud and grateful to witness a young man make his own exit healthy, strong and fulfilled. If we could all be so lucky.
I'm a Seahawks fan but Calvin Johnson is one of my favorite NFL players of all time. I love the way he doesn't talk crap because his game and athleticism speak for themselves. Dude was a human highlight reel
Even though this is a Megatron video, it really doubles as a Stafford highlight reel. So many of those passes were perfectly timed and in the EXACT position they needed to be for him to make the catch. It goes to show how much chemistry affects both the QB and WR. It will be interesting to see how Mahomes does without Hill and eventually Kelce. I'm happy Stafford found a new home to be successful in and Megatron got his jacket. They deserve it after dealing with the Lions for so many years.
That hit me RIGHT in the feels... As a lifelong diehard Lions fan... this got me a bit misty eyed and choked up. We miss you in Detroit CJ! Regardless of that... he is subjectively one of, if not the best WR of all time. The man caught everything. Best nickname in football too.
Although yes they retired early. their talent was still unparalleled and their loyalty was even greater. although not winning. they both stuck around through everything. neither one wanting a trade over staying. there’s something about the lions that has great players going there and not wanting to leave

Both him and another former Lion by the name of Barry Sanders would be hailed today as the greatest of all time at their respective positions had they not made the decision to walk away from the game in their prime. I know Randy is the freak but this dude was in a whole ‘nother world.
The absolute best WR I've ever seen play to include Jerry Rice, and I'm going on 60. The man could do everything, if only he had played for a contender.
As a bears fan, i loathed how great he was, but at the same time i grew to love him. He always had me glued to the screen as a kid to see what he would do next. Respect to calvin Johnson and to Detroit.
As amazing as these plays are, can we all just take a second to appreciate just how great Matthew Stafford is as a pure-passer? Almost all of these monster plays involve passes where the ball is traveling 50 yards on a freaking line, often times with defenders just ready to take Stafford's head off. Just amazing!
Been alive long enough to see a lot of the great WRs of all time. Calvin Johnson is the best. He’s the best ever and will most likely be the best ever for a hundred years. People who never got to see him play every Sunday won’t realize how dominate this dude was. He was legitimately unguardable unless you triple teamed him. The best athlete the NFL might ever see.
People keep saying he should still be playing, but his size was his undoing, people would take his knees out would be the only way to tackle him.his knees gave out
SunamiKilla you could use that same exact argument for Jerry Rice.....he did the most with what he had. Jerry accomplished everything by having major heart. He didn't need a 6'5 frame to get the job done, he just out-hustled and out-ran every team. He made his QB's better, not the other way round.
That catch at 3:04 Vs Tampa Bay was absolutely insane for a big receiver like him. The way he can get small on the sideline with such little space. And have 2 or sometimes 3 guys guarding him and get up over the top of all of them is sick.

At his position and his dominance, he was the LeBron of the NFL.
meaturama dumb fuck read it again
@@money1308 😂😂😂
Michael Vue now imagine lebron if he went to the nfl
No, Antonio brown is the Lebron of football... Massive ego, but also massive talent... However, he'll go scheming to try getting whatever he wants, regardless of how stupid it looks. Megatron is like the Larry bird of football, but without the massive amount of trash talking
Leonis Krigorian lebron played football I’m sure he knows how to play wr
Calvin is the God damn goat dude I'm a Packers fan and am grateful to witness his greatness, best receiver of all time
I think since his stats will never compare to other greats he’ll be forever underrated, but let me tell you, to the people who had the privilege to watch this man play football, he could’ve been the greatest of all time. Amazing AMAZING athlete.
True and I'm a Cowboys fan.
I miss Megatron. Detroit... Where talent goes to die... Or unexpectedly retire in it's prime.
Rowdy Jr. Cleveland=where dead careers go is more accurate tbh
LegitPwnz it goes both ways
OmegaMan False
Pittsburgh - where talent goes if they wanna lose in the first round
@@notsauer Six Super Bowls. Three appearences in the last 14 years. I guarantee unless your a Patriots fan your team doesn't have that much success lol
wish he played longer. he was so good a two man coverage became the *megatron treatment*
I don’t watch American football but I knew about this guy
What a beast👏
The most physically gifted reciever of all time imo. A few more seasons and we could've labeled him as the best all time period.
Keep coming back this one. Never disappoints. One of the favorite players and wide receivers of all time. Megatron is now a hall of famer. Well deserved. Best jump ball receiver of all time!
Something underappreciated here is just how good Stafford is. A lot of these passes are absolutely gorgeous balls
Stafford has always had an incredible arm in terns of both strength and accuracy. A+ arm talent but only B or B+ in awareness and decision making.
Pause
If the lions had a lick of defense during the Johnson-Stafford era, they’d probably have at least a Super Bowl appearance to show for their years together
Well Stafford finally got a ring. Wish Megatron could've got one, he def deserved it
@@asvptrunks 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣I was thinking the same thing!
Best skill set player to ever walk on the field. Facts
Randy Moss.
@@AT-qm8gv Watched Moss his whole career and he was unreal. One of the fastest WR ever BUT Calvin had it all. It was truly freaky that triple coverage didn't work. He is in the 99th percent for Jumping Height and Speed lol He is a Madden create a PLAYER
SmithN' Wesson rice?
Three words: Straight cash homie.
Hes just best of all time and never will be forgotten of MEGATRON
God I miss these days. Johnson was incredible and Stafford was sharp and accurate
The best WR ever in my eyes. Injuries and lack of longevity kept him from having all the stats to back it, but there's no 1 WR I'd pick over him in their prime.
I agree... best wr of all time imo
Matt Pawlowski If it was prime only, I would take Moss. Moss was just so fast and has just as good catching ability.
Julio Jones too
greatest WR in history...not based on career, but sheer domination
I got moss rice Owens and Fitzgerald before him but he’s top 5
Diehard Lions fan since 09 (Stafford rookie year) 22 years old now definitely my 2 favorite Lions growing up man I still loved his 12 year career here...and Calvin's unforgettable career here too definitely was great watching CalvIn💯💯🔥🔥🔥
Same here man. I remember growing up with that stafford and megatron duo. Even though we weren’t a winning team was always proud to root for my boys. Even remember writing Calvin Johnson as my idol on a school project. Things are looking up for us now, big things to come for the Lions and I’m excited as ever.
These crazy people out here have the nerves to compare DK Metkalf to the Legend. Smfh
Lmfao right smh
Exactly megatron da got double teamed off of the line of scrimmage
right now hes not as good but Dk could become as good.
MegaGay FatBoy no, DK will be his own player he does not have the potential to be megatron, especially with iffy hands. be real
@@isaiahphipps245 Big Facts. Iffy hands and Stiff route running. Nothing like Megatron

Lions are losing in almost every highlight. I understand why he retired.
Grew up a cardinals fan, but always thought johnson in his prime was better than fitz and probably best I've ever seen top 3 definitely
That intro tho 🔥
song?
I still get chills up my spine watching Calvin "MEGATRON" Johnson do what he do! ELECTRIFYING AF! A once in a lifetime talent/player! #ONEPRIDETILLIDIE 🏈🦁💙🙌💪👀
they've always been blessed with good recievers. If they had a run game then they would be contenders now.
They do now. Kerryon Johnson is legit.
Damn miss watching him play 😭
Watching, quite literally, a once in a lifetime talent walk away from his game so early makes us sad, right? As witnesses we feel that deep genuine melancholy. Maybe because it subtly reminds all of us of our own impending mortality. Ultimately, we all must walk away from our games in the end, and it’s rarely ever on our own terms. When you think about it like that, you can’t help but feel proud and grateful to witness a young man make his own exit healthy, strong and fulfilled. If we could all be so lucky.
Generational player. Respect from a Vikings fan.
Easily the best/most fun receiver I ever saw in my young life
I'm a Seahawks fan but Calvin Johnson is one of my favorite NFL players of all time. I love the way he doesn't talk crap because his game and athleticism speak for themselves. Dude was a human highlight reel
There was that period where Georgia Tech produced big, tall and very fast wide receivers like Calvin Johnson, D. Thomas and Stephen Hill.
The lions made two of the greatest players in nfl history retire early. Barry and Calvin.
Although yes they retired early. their talent was still unparalleled and their loyalty was even greater. although not winning. they both stuck around through everything. neither one wanting a trade over staying. there’s something about the lions that has great players going there and not wanting to leave
@@roccolobosco8834 lmao that's a lie both Barry and Calvin wanted out. Its been known
@@roccolobosco8834 Both wanted out. Barry never got the chance to play on a winning team and Calvin was a cash cow who was made to play through numerous injuries. Neither wanted to end their careers when they did but they had no choice because the Ford Family wanted ticket sales without having to build around them or pay them.
@Rocco LoBosco It's true. Barry's loyalty to Detroit proves he never wanted out and Calvin made it clear in his HOF speech he retired for one reason. I've seen no video or footage anywhere stating otherwise.
@@sharkbate63-17 You got that right. As a long time lions fan and seen both players play at the SilverDome and Ford Field many times. Fords suck.
Calvin Johnson was as good as Randy Moss! He came to play everyday, regardless of the situation he had at QB and/or just the team itself.
🤣🤣🤣
@@kalanievans2341I laughed to when he implied randy moss was on the same level as CJ. First I got to see randy loss play was in middle school against giants when he played for patriots…he had like 2 catches and then retired what a joke

greatest wr of all time. i miss him sm
Thank You Oakland Raiders for drafting JaMarcus Russell instead of Calvin Johnson.

@James Vs. Movies thank you Al Davis
You wasted him you didn’t deserved it pathetic organization
@@jimmymallet55 And the Raiders would wasted his career as well. Not our fault your team sucks at drafting. Like the original comment said Thank you for Megatron sincerely from this Lions fan. Hope we draft another once in a generation talent so we can enjoy him for ourselves.
@King Henry You stupid. You act like we're GM's or something. Fuck is we suppose to do when the GMs and owners suck at putting a team together. Wish the Lions were the Patriots cause before Brady and Belichick the Patriots were complete dog shit as well.
@King Henry Wtf? Who tf doesn't want a generational player on their favorite team? So you're saying you'd rather watch busts on your team play? Wow man, I feel so bad for the team you root for 😂😂
This will be the player i will tell my kids about. Living legend. Really. Most dominant receiver to play the position.
Wow he's good. Really really good. Don't blame me guys I just started watching the NFL because in my country we dont get really get great receptions. Except last year tho.
Top 3 WR all time. If he played another 2-5 years you could argued best wr
Nah he arguably had the best prime of all the WR's but for a total career, it wasn't even Top 5 and I'm a Lions fan.
Aaron T thats the lions fault not his
He couldn’t play regardless if fingers were permanently crooked stoping him from catching the balls good and they treated him like dirt
Remember watching him in person at the Gator Bowl when he was in college. He was incredible. First ballot talent.
Megatron was a once-in-a-lifetime talent, where you could be triple-covering him, and 85% percent of the time he will still come down with it
Both him and another former Lion by the name of Barry Sanders would be hailed today as the greatest of all time at their respective positions had they not made the decision to walk away from the game in their prime. I know Randy is the freak but this dude was in a whole ‘nother world.
I love how humble and quiet he is
Most talented receiver the NFL has Ever seen, imagine if he had What Rice had
The absolute best WR I've ever seen play to include Jerry Rice, and I'm going on 60. The man could do everything, if only he had played for a contender.
I remember sneaking upstairs to watch Calvin johnson on thanksgiving. I will never forget it.
Bro, I never knew how crazy good Calvin Johnson was.
Barry Sanders, best RB in NFL - no ring
Calvin Johnson, best WR in NFL - no ring.
have best talent? stay away from lions.
You don't need a good team to be a legend.
Dancing Unicorn From the 90's true but legend deserved least a ring.
I hope yo school gets shot up
Who said they wanted a ring? Not everybody plays football to win a ring.
not Sauer that’s it? that’s the best you came up with? sooo sad. get out and you’ll have better education. YO SCHOOL
*chuckles*
As a bears fan, i loathed how great he was, but at the same time i grew to love him. He always had me glued to the screen as a kid to see what he would do next. Respect to calvin Johnson and to Detroit.
As amazing as these plays are, can we all just take a second to appreciate just how great Matthew Stafford is as a pure-passer? Almost all of these monster plays involve passes where the ball is traveling 50 yards on a freaking line, often times with defenders just ready to take Stafford's head off. Just amazing!
Who is here right after he got selected to the Hall of Fame🔥👍
Been alive long enough to see a lot of the great WRs of all time. Calvin Johnson is the best. He’s the best ever and will most likely be the best ever for a hundred years. People who never got to see him play every Sunday won’t realize how dominate this dude was. He was legitimately unguardable unless you triple teamed him. The best athlete the NFL might ever see.
People keep saying he should still be playing, but his size was his undoing, people would take his knees out would be the only way to tackle him.his knees gave out
How about that game winning catch against Chicago from Shawn Hill... oh wait.... Smfh
Light Yagami thinking of that gives me cancer
Light Yagami bears fan here, that was a catch.
I'm a Bears fan but that's a catch

I remember watching him catch those passes under double coverage when I was a kid and it was always super exciting to see.
6:46 that’s just crazy
Even as a packers fan, I can admit he is the greatest wr of all time
Nick Theboss987 Jerry Rice?
SunamiKilla you could use that same exact argument for Jerry Rice.....he did the most with what he had. Jerry accomplished everything by having major heart. He didn't need a 6'5 frame to get the job done, he just out-hustled and out-ran every team. He made his QB's better, not the other way round.
That catch at 3:04 Vs Tampa Bay was absolutely insane for a big receiver like him. The way he can get small on the sideline with such little space. And have 2 or sometimes 3 guys guarding him and get up over the top of all of them is sick.
Damn, megaton should have at least won an MVP for shattering the single season receiving yards record. All lions had to do was get into the playoffs. Such a trash franchise. No SBs or MVPs for megatron. Detroit don't deserve you.

You do know who Jerry Rice is right?
Eagles Nation Jerry Rice also got to get targets from two of the top 10 QBs ever
Ross Bruglio tuff luck kiddo
Ross Bruglio how else do you rank players beside their stats? Popularity?
Eagles Nation I mean you have to take into account other things. Jerry rice played for much longer, had much more talent throwing to him, played for championship caliber teams, etc. If you think football can be broken down to purely stats, I’m sorry but you’re just wrong
As a talent, this guy is the best WR ever. The guy was a viable target under triple coverage. No other player has been that good at their job.
