I'm a U.S. Recon Marine vet., who attended/graduated Pre Combat Divers School and Combat Divers Qualification Course and have dived in almost every ocean on the planet. Growing up in central Florida, I am quite familiar with the various divable spring caves, along with the sink hole caused opening cave known as the Eagle's Nest. I dove it once, just because of its unique nature of being in the middle of nowhere in a small pond. I don't scare but I recognize risk when I see it and when I got (Yes I solo dived it) to the ballroom I can attest how little illumination my two lights provided and it sure seemed like a bad idea to let go of the guide rope...I am fairly confident with my experience I could have explored handsfree and found my way back to the guide rope but it was definitely, as I mentioned above a risky proposition. For anyone who was not a world class diver and certainly for two novices it would have been signing your own death warrant. Even had they not run into trouble with gaseous asphyxiation by going below a safe depth in the off shoot, they had most likely already sealed their fate when they got into the ballroom and left the guide rope. For the life of me, I don't know what the hell dad was thinking.
I wonder what the dynamic was there. How much he was pressured into the dive, if at all. Also, I got certified to scuba. I have only been on the ONE trip. But of the things I remembered and was make very clear to me: You cant dive deep with compressed air...I wonder if something else was happening here. How could an experienced diver take his sons life into his hands and overlook that?
@IAmPlaysWithSquirrel yeah it does. Some parents (not all) tend to either pressure or get overconfident in the abilities of their children. A teenage kid like Dillion without the necessary certifications, skills & training shouldn't be doing this. The father uncertified, too, failed to reconsider the risks.
Why would a cave diver first of all be this uneducated about the effects of diving? And then bringing his child along for it? That was a literal suicide mission for christmas eve
@@lordteaagree but the same cannot be said for the people that are just following their "passion" and "dream" yet leaving behind their family for selfish reasons.
We live in a world where all the surfaces have already been explored. But despite that, adventurers never died down. All that's left are what's under the surface, be it caves or underwater caves. Adventurers are motivated by being the first to reach these underground kingdoms regardless of danger.
I always send my friend a voice memo rant about how dumb the scenario was. Haha. Any time I feel like a loaf, sitting at home doing nothing, I take solace in the fact that I am not dying and starving for air in a cold, dark, volume of water under the earth to be alone with my fears and thoughts until I die, knowing that 20 different things would have avoided this entirely.
You take your kid who knows nothing about scuba to the Everest of diving caves?? Jesus. My dad liked scuba and took us to a 3 foot indoor swimming pool to learn. I guess mine liked me more than his dad liked him.
Yea but no matter how many signs you put up, there are always the few bad apples that choose to ignore them....they're about as effective at preventing cave deaths like "gun free zone " signs prevent a shooting
Okay, in the caving community this cave system is called the Mount Everest of cave diving. Father and son go into it with inadequate equipment. It's kind of like actually climbing Mount Everest in clothes that I would wear to walk with my dog in the winter. This would only result in a catastrophe.
You're supposed to protect your kids, not talk them into doing dangerous stunts in a place with signs warning that even the experienced have died there, never mind clueless nitwits like Darrin! "Father of the Year", he was not. 😡
Honestly, after watching these caving disaster videos I think caving and diving is not really that dangerous at all, because it looks like that more then 90% of accidents and deaths happen because people are overconfident, idiotic or both. There is very little cases where outside factors actually play a big role...
Annnd this is why I will only do caving or cave diving in Minecraft. Not real life. And even then, Minecraft diving/cave diving requires some preparation its own right!
Just like work places put up a sign with how many days/weeks without an accident, the caves should have a sign at the entrance with how many Deaths there has been at in that cave. Maybe that would make people take a little more caution 😞
Nope. You wouldn't even get me into the car in the first place. Everyone dies but why rush it by spending your final moments flailing about in panic terror knowing this is it? Damn, it was Christmas...why not some turkey and dressings? Why this?! What a waste.
I keep trying to understand why people put themselves in such danger. 🤔 But I can't think of a correct and sensible answer. 🤷🏻♀️ There is nothing in the caves that is important enough to risk your own life for. No matter whether it is diving into a cave or dry cave exploration (caving). Even if you somehow make it in, that doesn't mean you can get out. What's the point of being the first person to reach a section of a cave but then not making it out? I have more respect for those who know when to turn back instead of putting themselves in greater danger. Ultimately, it's not just your own life that you're putting at risk, but also the lives of the rescue workers trying to save you.
All of you who are making disgusting comments about the father need to remind themselves that they do not walk on water themselves. I guess all of you have lead perfect lives and never made a mistake in your life. May they Rest in Peace.
This was a pretty avoidable mistake though… the son should have gotten proper training and the dad should have known better… This “mistake” or more so extremely poor judgement had an irreversible consequence-death
They go cave-diving without knowing that normal compressed air is toxic at depth. I don’t feel sorry for either of them. A few minutes on Google would have informed them both how dangerous this activity can be. Of course, they probably would have ignored it.
They didn't suffer from oxygen toxicity from using regular compressed air. You suffer from oxygen toxicity from using nitrox. Trimix is used to counter oxygen toxicity.
Hey kiddo, so you‘re barely 15 and got your first ever scuba gear for christmas? Great, let‘s dive past all the grim reaper signs, that warn even experienced divers from staying the helm away. Yay, at some point, this is indistuingushable from death-wish or murder.
Rescue divers need to be renamed corpse locators
😆😂🤣🤭

Crazy answer HAHAHAHA
Thanks for the info. Im glad Ill never dive anywhere!
Sad situation. Poor kid had a chance he just couldn’t find the entrance
What a kind father

Reminds of the 19 year old who died on the Titan submersible with his dad. He only went along to please him, not because he wanted to be there.

People who study the Dunning Kruger effect call this "Mount Stupid."
Father apparently had a standard diving certificate but not a cave diving certificate. So, underqualified :-/
Full grown men who willingly choose death get no sympathy. Sadly he had to take his son with his stupidity.
The father was incredibly reckless and unfortunately the boy suffered the consequences with him... I feel so bad for him and the poor fiancé
Starting to wonder what she saw in him 😅
Dive in darkness to find nothing is just dumb. Why not dive in clear waters to explore coral reefs and beautiful fish??? 🐠
people are very stupid
Ahh a rare common sense guy

The more of these I watch the less sympathy I feel for the people that recklessly cause their own deaths.

I think at least this son is innocent. He does not have enough knowledge. His father should have taught him instead of leading him into danger.
I know right? Like I just got diving equipment for Christmas and this is the first place we go to...
Not the son. He was only 15. He was dependent on his father, who failed him unfortunately 😔
😆😂🤣😄🤭🤫
Over estimation of one's expertise is so common with many divers.
True, and it also applies to other risky activities.
Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer. But in this case, a fast and painful one.
"Clearly that Grim Reaper sign is intended for inexperienced and untrained people," he thought, as he swam past breathing the wrong air mixture.
You take your kid who knows nothing about scuba to the Everest of diving caves?? Jesus. My dad liked scuba and took us to a 3 foot indoor swimming pool to learn. I guess mine liked me more than his dad liked him.
The incompetence and negligence of this dad is way off the charts. Unbelievable.
That's why theres a sign 🤭

Kinda ironic that he died next to the sign
You guys are so underrated... Please make more videos. You're the best at this.
Thanks for your positive feedback ❤️

The only positive thing about this is that this guy cannot get any more kids
Where did he get him? Walmart?

Stupid dad, poor kid.
Ah yes the people that looked at extreme cave diving and said “it’s definitely WAY too dry in here”
Why people go cave diving to see pitch black baffles me. Just close your eyes bro.
I feel so sorry for the boy"s mother. How can you come back from this.
I wonder what she saw in him

Love your channel bro, good content
Well damn i binged youre entire channel in a day. Hahaha. Good work on editing these! and thanks for the fear.

You'd be surprised how many people are actually overconfident. You have now idea.
back then it was harder to find information, most people can get the information they need on internet these days.

Cheers Dad, nice one 👍

Wow I can’t imagine how desperate they felt in those final moments so sad for the poor boy
Absolute shame. 15 years old. That poor boy had a whole life left to live
2 things you should never do. Go caving. And go caving in underwater caves💀
Lets dive into a sink hole and see what the hell is in there for no reason
Fantastic channel 💯💪💪
Poor boy. What a terrible father. No excuse for not doing research in 2011...

Don't worry, son. You'll get a second chance next life, son.
I've a question
Can we put Radium buttons on every important turns under the water cave
Im an experienced diver. i would've been able to help them
What a terribly negligent father, taking his poor son in there

Why do they set up warning signs under water?! Seal the entrances instead!! Bars, cement, stones…whatever it takes!
