I've had the m17 from crank bros for what I want to say about 5 years now.. no complaints. I actually have 3 of the same tool for 3 different rides. It just works.
I have had this tool for maby 6-7 years now. Lost the case, but the M19 still works like new. Tride once to loose a stuck pedal and i stood on my foot putting all my weitgh on the big allen key. Pedal come off but i did bend the tool iteself. Took the m19 i a tool vise and bend it back. And just like new.
The piece that separates from the chain tool also has a valve core remover, on the open side near above the size 1 spoke wrench, useful for seating tubeless tyres with a co2 cartridge
I just purchased this for my planned trike tour. I'm using the case to carry some spare bolts. The tool also has two regular bolt wrenches on the handle of the chain break tool. I'm having a hard time using it to break my chain, which is why I watched this video. This is a good out-of-the-package review.
According to the Japanese description on the Amazon website, the chain tool should work on 8/9/10/11 speed chain. And thanks for your sharing on the tool. I'm a beginner on cycling and I'm glad to see a review with this tool.
Good evening team👍 Just a few questions in relation to 920 Bike Multitoolkit as I was unable to find any answers on the website: 1) Where and when do we use/need the 9mm and 10mm hex key ? 2) Function of T25 and T30 Torx key? 3) Function of 2mm Allen key?
I have the M17.. but Im going to return it to get the M19.. Petty reason.. I want the case lol.. The M17 is a great tool.. very very similar to the M19 only lacking a couple things.. but I want the case to keep my tool nice and clean when not in use.
The aluminum container opens effortlessly from the other side. My only criticism of this product is that the tools are short, so for tightening my break mounts it is not helpful, the left side comes loose as an unfortunate side effect of a nasty spill.
Mine came without the case. It uses a heavy duty black band. Thanks for the heads up on the spoke tool. Did not know. One less thing to pack in tool kit. Crank Brothers got me covered.
Looks like if you put the lid over the tool first, then put the tool with the lid attached in the case, should slide in with less difficulty getting your lid on.
I love my M19. Recently discovered the spoke wrench that saved me a trip to the LBS and I learned how to true my own wheel! IMO I feel it's actually much smaller in person than the video makes it look but still a hefty tool. Thanks for the tip on squeezing the case- that thing can really be a pin to get off sometimes.
So has anyone tried this with 11 speed chains? Trying to decide between this and the Topeak mini 20 pro. Was about to buy the m19 until I read it has issues with 11 speed and some 10 speed chains. I Like the m19 better but the chain issue is a big deal breaker and would put the mini pro in my favor.
I have the Topeak Alien. Very similar to your model. Had the Bell Roadside 700 which worked great and tool wise was almost a direct copy of a Crankbrothers. Lost it on a trail ride. Trying to find a replacement is kicking my butt. I've used the M17 and liked it. It was similar. I'm torn between the M19 and the Blackburn Tradesman.
I needed it today and realized the best way to open it. If you look at both ends there is this black plastic insert. One of them has a small grip that pull it out of the aluminum case with. So I squeeze the case and pull that plastic insert out. Does that makes sense?
I'm not sure since I've not used the Topeak. I did check out the tool and would get the m19. Reason is this, sure those tire levers might seem nice to have but if they break it kind of kills that cool part of the product. The m19 has more tools and they won't break.
Nice video. Very good product except that two hex wrenches rusted a bit. Not a major complaint though. Any idea what those four spoke wrench sizes are? They call it 0,1,2 and 3. What do they stand for in mm? My bike's nipple takes size 2.
I'm really not sure about the spoke sizes my friend. Personally I just try one till it fits HAHAHAHA! I know, not very technical but it's just what I do. So you had rush on yours? So far so good with mine.
@@rgmtb - :-) Surly just confirmed to me that the nipple size for my bike's spoke is 3.2 mm. So 2 stands for 3.2 mm. I think the rust is to do with the humid climate of Calcutta where I live and the fact that it is stored in the beautiful box where humidity possibly gets trapped. Will try some Coke to get rid of it. As of now keeping it moist with WD 40, which I should have done from the beginning.

Regular Guy Mountain Biking I'm running a shimano 11 speed chain on my fatbike and SRAM 10 speed on my plus bike. Thanks for your answer. Was just concerned cause one review said 10 speed chains were loose in the chain breaker and they had a really hard time with 11 speed chains. Why hasn't someone come up with one that you can custom build with the tools you need or want! (Shark tank idea lol). Thanks again for the great review and response.
Mario, just to make sure I don't steer you the wrong way here is a link to a picture I just took of my m19 on an 11 speed SRAM chain. Does this help? The last thing I want to do is have you buy something that you don't like. If another picture/angle would be helpful just ask :-) instagram.com/p/BO7qY8OAPJE/?taken-by=rgmtb
Joseph Phillips I've got mixed opinions on the case as well. More of a pain to get the tool in and out of to be honest now that I've used it for awhile.
@George Sure, but the case I got with mine was frustrating to open. If they fixed this issue it would have some basic utility. On a couple occasions I've had my multi-tool totally come apart in pieces due to the vibration during rides. A case might have been some beneficial in this situation. I've since applied loctite so I'm hoping that issue is fixed.
Haha right? Well i give him credit on atleast trying. I bought mine a few min ago and cant wait to have something that will work and compact to ride with.
Awesome Review! We recently purchased the same tool to review and were very impressed. We felt that the storage container was a bit of a waste and not likely to hold up well but overall, we love it. Check out our review here: www.expeditionrecreation.com/gear/crankbrothers-m19-multi-tool
I agree that the container might not be all that useful. I'm pretty sure it will hold up but it's not really required and not that easy to get the tool in and out of.
Solid multi-tool. My brother has been using a very similar one (if not the same one) for YEARS.
Oh hey Brian, funny seein' you here, how are Seth and Alex doing

I agree. Good quality product!
Why m17 instead of 19
Donot Robme honestly, i have the m17 because it was was what was being offered from my LBS. have a great weekend
I have the same tool and love it!!! Never leave for a ride without it.

Thank you!! I was wondering what that was.
Same here 😄

Wes MTB Hahaha! I totally almost missed the spoke wrench :-) Glad that tip worked for ya. You use any other crank brother stuff?
So far I haven't yet but I have been eyeballing some pedals of theirs that my LBS carries :]
I love my 5050's :-) Let us know what ya get. We love new gear HAHAHA!

Can the chain/spoke tool be used as a brake callipers wedge too? Looks like one sorta
I just looked at the tool to see if this would work and it would be pretty hard to do. It's a maybe at best.
Great review on the M19 it has helped me choose the one I will buy with no frills and a clear explanation.
It's a huge pain to open the case. Have you found a better way to open it?
I have to find a corner and try to open it like a bottle cap
I needed it today and realized the best way to open it. If you look at both ends there is this black plastic insert. One of them has a small grip that pull it out of the aluminum case with. So I squeeze the case and pull that plastic insert out. Does that makes sense?
Use something to press into one of the tiny holes. The 3mm Allen wrench works well.
Honestly, for me so far this case is a big joke. I’ll keep trying.
All you have to do is squeeze the top sides in and pull the cap off
Nice review RG. Just ordered one myself
Is this good for a SRAM SX Eagle, 12-speed Chain?
Yep! I have been asked this a few times before and have tested this myself to confirm. All good!
which one is better? m19 vs topeak hexus II?

what about 12 speed chain (eagle gx)? does it work?
are tools too short?
They are a standard size meaning that they match in size to most other multi tools.
Good review, straight to the point, honest, informative. Good job man
The aluminum case this come with has cut me several times. The tool is great but the case is dangerous.
Let's just say I leave my case at home as well 👍
Steve, u look like regular guy mtb channel guy
Good vid, just received mine today.
Thanks! Yeah, it's a pretty nice add to your bike bag.
Just ordered mine...great review!👍🏼
Hope you enjoy it!
What is the length on the 8mm hex?
Pretty short, only 2cm
i ditched the flask. a PAIN to remove the lid
Just between you and me, so did I ;-)
Why m19 over the other numbers like m17 etc
The McIver would be good for mountain bike because of the splinters and cleaning nails. (Not kidding)
I actually always loved that multi tool but it now lacks some of the new standards needed out on the trails.
The flask is such as gimmick. A waste of material. The tool is great though. I had no idea about the spoke tool.

Just ordered one, great review bud!
Sweet!
Great vid
Love it except the case sucks.
David Flores I can’t argue with you on this.
Crank brothers F15
Think you need to prepare your videos better, fluency of delivery and better lighting on the 2nd camera (perhaps get a macro lens for it too.)
that’s weird, mine rattles.
In the metal case? I'll be honest man, I don't use the case anymore
it's $35 now, fuck
$21 now

mine is not fitting
What do you mean?
It goes in but you have to take off the bottom to remove it
The tool holder
Thanks you helped zero.
