Mahalo for sharing both planting and harvest with us! In one video i watched awhile ago, they used thin wood slats as dividers. to create several chambers in a wider box or bucket. This gives each plant its own compartment, and allows for the straighter root.
Thank you and your husband for doing and documenting this practical experiment. I was wondering how to obtain these long straight roots you see in Asian markets! Your video is very useful !!
Very interesting! Thank you for letting us see this process. The cylinders definitely allowed the roots to grow long and straight. Though the roots did major circling of the container. There is a reason the Japanese grow these in boxes that they take apart to harvest.
🌺Mahalo for watching. We had experimented and found the tube were great for small spaces, easy to move around and pretty easy to harvest. We thought the box method was easy harvest, since you could remove a part of the box. Are you growing any burdock? If so, how are you growing your plant?
Aloha from Las Vegas Nevada, I have two 6 ft 4 inch PVC pipe you have inspired me to grow the Gobo I will be starting that project today, I will also be starting some Manpukuji Carrots 🧑🌾
In your gobo planting video, you used two different soils--one had vermiculite mixed in. Which cylinder-grown plant had the straighter root? Great project! Thanks for sharing.
Mahalo for watching. The cylinder container grew the straightest root. We were surprised with the 5 gallon bucket growth, we thought it would get curly. Keep watching for more videos.
🌺That's an interesting idea! Using two lengths of guttering could definitely provide a practical solution for root removal. It would be great to test it out and see how effective it can be! Let me know if it works.

🌺Mahalo for watching. A 3 ft cylinder tube or a tall rectangular wooden box will help with getting straight roots.
This was super helpful. I have several ABS tubes. I think I'll use that method.
🌺Let us know how it grows!
@@808.ladybugs I will. It will be next spring before I start. I'm excited!
Perhaps try a 3" capped pvc to push out after unsrewing the bottom?

Nice work! This was completely fascinating to watch! That’s what I love about you two is that you try new things and you share that with us! Aloha!
🌺Aloha Kim, Mahalo for watching and your 😍comment. Yup, T said that's what we should do, especially to see what does grow in Hawaii. Happy growing.. ❤
How long before you can harvest? This video with the cylinders was very helpful
🌺Mahalo for watching. It takes about a year.

Thank you for sharing the results of your experiment! How tall were your pvc tubes? And how long did you wait before harvesting?
@@ceciliasmith4939 🌺Mahalo for your comment. The container was 2 ft. long. It took about a year. Happy gardening.
HI! How long did it take to harvest after you put the seed in the dirt? I am going to try this metod, thank you.
Mahalo for watching. It takes about a year to grow. Have fun growing.
Would a cylinder made out of two lengths of guttering work? The two halves could be separated to remove the root.

That sounds like a good option!
