  • Today we fix a 1977 MCI bus that was running away. It has an 8v71n Detroit Diesel with 3 stuck injectors. Lets get them unstuck and get this baby fired up.

    You, sir, are a patient man. With the customer/owner there...making constant "suggestions"...you handled that well. I especially loved when he told you how to use the rear start panel. Like I said...you showed patience and tact. Nice work, with both the customer and the Detroit.

    Excellent job, well done, you handled the owner well, I would have lost my patience with him there at the end when he kept saying " it just needs sprayed" the parking brake knob .

    Your the second guy on You Tube today I watched try and pull an injector with vice grips. All you need is a Heal Bar slid between the surface of the head and the body of the injector and it pops right out. i worked on Detroit's for 30 years always carried a 90 degree heal bar.

    • @Ol2Stroker
      @Ol2Stroker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ive never once tried to pull an injector with vice grips. I have a heel bar just like you said. Besides... all the hold down bolts are still in so the heel bar wouldn't do anything anyway.

      You mean the hunting for idle ? Yeh, they are a trip, especially when they run away. I was a maintenance guy, fired up the 12V92 and she took off. You ever seen a man try to run through a wall ? 😂 I threw the ol flapper and shut her down but it was exiting for a second.

    If I'm not mistaken, the Bus Grease Monkey looked this same coach over about a year or year and a half ago. I remember a strapped up tag axle and the exhaust being open off one bank. Pretty sure it had some sticky injector issues then, too.

    Sadly, that guy is not the right owner for that bus! "10 bucks for injectors?" His best bet is to sell that to some one with knowledge how to work on it, and operate it properly! Someone spent a lot of time and money converting it, for sure! That baby is at the point right now, it has sat long enough, that it needs love now, or it will never come back! And that is a crying shame, for a nice bus like this one! That leak in the bed room, for example, needs attention now!

    70 degrees weather would certainly help.
    Two weeks at Greasemonkey Garage to fine tune the suspension, drive train, tires would work wonders.
    Good job on the engine today.

    The owner knows just enough to seriously damage inadvertently components. Like thinking something safety with the air just needs sprayed. Some things should work sprayed or not. Like those injectors, he was thinking to spray it while he was exercising the plunger. Well that thing has to come up by itself. Hit on it till it does like ol2stroke. Sounds like his sister is gone. Might have been a private plane crash or something.

    The dead come back to life! Pretty standard configuration there, don't they usually have the engine laying on it's side or something weird like that in busses? The side you were filming from didn't look too bad to get at, was the other side harder?
