2 negatives that everyone should know: 1. The preload bolt comes loose very easily due to a poor single bolt securing design on the NDS crank. Use loctite and ensure you use the rubber o-ring that comes with the preload bolt. Despite following the guidelines to a tee for installation, my left crank came off during the British Gravel Champs ruining my race. Many other have reported the same. Panda Podium customer service is great, and they sent me a replacement preload bolt FOC. 2. Officially this is not compatible with T47 internal and BB386evo BBs. The issue is that the base does not protude far from the BB shell, so it can fowl against the surface. This is not a fixed rule for all T47 and 380evo frames, so it depends on this individual frame. On my gravel bike, a very thin spacer/shim ensured it did not rub.
VERY true on the pre-load bolt. I had one come out completely (leaving me stranded) and the replacement came loose once. I was lucky enough to catch it in time. Like the OP, I did everything 100% by the instructions. Since then, no issues but be aware. Also, IMO, the left/right balance is not correct but that is a minor issue to me.
Per instructions, I checked the torque on the preload bolt after approx. 100km and sure enough it came slightly loose. I torqued it down to spec but used Loctite the second time around and no issues thus far, have put in over 12000km now.
@@whynotride327 yes, blue loctite on the threads of the 5, 6, and 10mm. I believe the 6mm bolt is not shown it the Magene install video YT but it's pretty important...I think it serves as an expander plug for the 10mm bolt.
I was actually hanging out with GP Lama today IRL, and he let me know about this comment. Came here to say thanks for your custom, and glad my team sorted you out. Any issues, get in touch with us.
Yes, it can. For its price and what you get - highly highly recommended! Edit. As another person has mentioned, place some loctite onto the preload bolt before torquing down. Mine came loose after I greased it (as an anti-corrosion precaution). This is exactly what you should NOT do. Clean the area, and then use some light loctite.
@@Hafiz_Vanyar As a precaution, put some loctite on the preload bolt. In a few instances, it may work itself loose. Better safe than sorry. Besides this, it's an excellent product.
I thought about this as an option but I can see that people have problems in the long term. My powertap is still working after 15 years. I`m not going to change it.
if I have a cube nuroad hpa race with mechanical shimano grx gearbox with 46-30 and 11-34 gears, can I take the 50-34 chainrings or are they not compatible with the gearbox?
Please be aware that it's only for Shimano road groupsets. GRX groups use a different BCD for the small chain ring and won't fit. You might be able to fit the compact road chain rings on your Gravel bike, but it will shift gear ratios obviously.
I think buyer should beware regarding a purchase of this power meter. I have a left right leg power imbalance. I purchased this PM direct from Magene and tested against two pedal based power meters. Garmin Vector DUO and Favero DUO. The left/right balance was off by 10% and not even consistent on the over/under power reading. I requested warranty service and have gotten no response after multiple attempts. Total waste of $300.
Crank preload and single bolt fastener gets loose over time. Seen so many in the shop. Nothing helps, not even high strength loctite and/or new preload orings. They need to fix it.
I'm using this with "Stone" 56/42T rings, on my Campy 11 drive train, with no issues...on the road. Using that setup with 2016 Kickr, with Shimano 11-32 cassette, I drop the chain often shifting from little ring to big, up front. Cassette needs to be pushed away from kicker ~1.5mm to 2mm to get things lined up a little better...or just get the Campy freehub/cassette.
Has anyone tried to contact Magene to ask questions about products or see if they really have customer support ? I tried and got back a rejection, all in Chinese. Not a good sign for me.
Not compatible with 105 Di2. Not enough clearance with the arms as they sit much closer to the chainrings than the stock ones. You risk destroying your FD along with the frame mount point.

I think the QED has a Aluminum spindle thus its much lighter.

I'm also using this device. It's a really solid option for people to consider. Amazing review as always Tariq!!!
Appreciate it Matt. Definitely doesn’t beat or even come close to your brolls 🙂

Your camera is fantastic, its so clear
Picked up one of these a few months back. Rock solid and seems to match the numbers coming from my smart trainer.
That’s great to hear. Thanks for sharing your experience!
just bought it last sunday. done install and setup it yesterday. tomorrow will be the first ride. hopefully everything will be ok❤
Awesome… let me know how it goes.

So glad you did this review

I think the QED one is also lighter with a DUB BB standard (30mm spindle). Shane you cant get the base with the lighter cranks. Its one or the other.
Wish they made a set for mountain, I would be very interested, but I’ll have to wait, live the price none the less

currently on the market for power meters. wonder if can work for my old shiv TT 2011? currently using default Specialized crankset.

I am afraid it is only suitable with Shimano cranck sets or am I wrong?

Can you use it for 1x?

Super! Chinese impress again!
will it take shimano chainrings?
Yes

same for ultegra di2?
I've the PEP P505 installed on two bikes my di2 105, and I haven't any compatibility issues. Both are steel frame with regular 24mm bottom brackets
Same here distance with shimano and Magene is the same 2.26 mm when in the 54 tooth ring
With Magene (especially their electronics) you get what you pay for. Take that for what you will. 😅
Just take Inpeak for this price
Can a 300 usd power meter be good? - wtf. How much are other brands?
Bike parts and accessories pricing are ridiculous
Too bad it is so heavy.
Same as an ultegra crank. But you can also just buy the spider and add to a SRAM red DUB crank for a light set up
Whats your weight??
