- Shares of Tesla (TSLA) are dipping on Monday as the company has slashed prices in China once again. The company has also made price cuts in Germany and the US as it faces declining sales and growing competition.
Stephen Dyer, Head of the Asia Automotive and Industrials Unit at AlixPartners, joins The Morning Brief to give insight into the Chinese and American EV markets and how Tesla fares among both.
Dyer predicts: "I do think there will probably be further price cuts. It's an ironic situation that goes against the normal microeconomic expectations. So in China, when companies cut prices, in this case, many consumers say, let's wait and see, we don't think it's at the bottom yet. So interestingly, it hasn't sparked the demand that we would normally expect when you cut prices."

Why worry about overcapacity if there are potential buyers around. Don't try to fool watchers. Problem starts when America looses.
Ban tiktok, ban DJI drones, ban chinese EVs, ban anything US can't compete with。
simple answer is yes. America can never catch up. China will roll out semi-solid state battery in production cars in summer this year which allow for 1000km range. Unlike some American start-ups working on solid state battery with mass production date nowhere to be seen.
Would have never have thought that China would have a more open EV market than the US atm..
But what you say isn’t true.
@TheBooban In China a Company can own their own factory, as in the US. What I mean is the investigation into Chinese EV'S and "National security " claims by Gina Raimondo.. & Beijing could turn them off".. The openness of Chinese is inviting anyone & everyone into their Chinese EV market.. The Americans are using a different tool here.. Protectionism.... Winners are the US auto industry = Doners.. Looses are the Consumers..Potentially (still ongoing).. IRA is also designed to hit China where it hurts most.. Battery dominance.. The US is 10 years behind China in batteries at least.. The Inflation Reduction Act, should be called the Inflation Act.. There will be no Reduction in the prices, & Chinese EV companies can produce way cheaper EV'S now vs US manufacturers.. The US already has a anti China house commitee and a Chinese financial containment strategy.. How would the US react if China had a US financial containment strategy and an anti US house commitee set up in their government?? The Chips act is another example of the US trying desperately to stop China.. This doesn't sound like a very open market to me.. This is literally a government that consists of 4% of the Global population (USA) actively attempting to hold back a Country that represents 18% of the global population.. How you think that this will go down in the next 5 - 10 years?? This is like Japan trying to contain the US, similar in size differential..
@@TheBooban How many brands, models that American consumers can buy in US vs CHINA? That alone speaks volume how galapagos and closed its economy is. The only thing that inflated the US GDP is finance, healthcare and litigation.
@@markosmataasii2000 lol, Chinese brands. Not open to the rest of the world.
One things analysts seem to overlook all the time when it comes to the price cuts is that battery prices have been consistently falling for the last few decades and are predicted to keep falling for at least one decade more, and EV manufacture is still early enough to still have plenty of optimizations and cost cuts to still be developed and implemented. In a functioning market with competition, thus, EV prices are supposed to keep falling.
How can they lose if not a single Chinese EV is allowed in the US?
American consumers suffer by paying higher prices for inferior EV, that’s definition of a loser
@@donkeykong516 That’s also my opinion but it’s not the opinion of the rulers. I’m in Canada and suffering from the same ban of Chinese EVs and solar panels. I am definitely a loser in this.
@@donkeykong516 American consumer will lose more if their jobs are lost to the Chinese. 400 percent tariff just be put in place. Let's see if the Africans can buy the Chinese junk.
@@donkeykong516Just believe in your mind that Chinese EVs don't exist and you will feel happy
The US and Europe had lost the EV war against China about a decade ago, and it's just the beginning. 😵💫🤕🤒🤧
YES Agreed
Tesla Q2 weekly sales in China have started with -90%, -60% and -50% YoY. 13.4k cars sold in the three first weeks of April, when it should have sold that in one week.
I believe that the first few weeks in the quarter, Most manufactured in Shanghai by Tesla are exported to other markets. So this is why the deliveries are a bit lower now.
It would appear so.
Yes. Just like in the US.
Beginning? Already done.
The next stock to plummet will be Apple, so get ready.
Tesla will be fine, Elon's pragmatic in terms of dealing with China and ensure competitiveness globally.
Over-competive for American.
Well, I didn’t see any Chinese EVs have autonomous driverless system like FSD
They have Xpeng's XNGP
Your free media protects you well enough that you don't know anything. HUAWEI auto driving, search that!
🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for no f.u.d. content please share more ev info from china
Ban all Chinese EVs in the US including battery and parts. Build everything in the US even we consumers have to pay 5 times more. Buy American.
Anything that America can't compete is threat to national security.
Will you then have enough money left to pay your mortgage or rent. Already there are 650,000 homeless
This guy sounds bias AF!
Isn't he saying what YOU believe?
Jai Hind. Inflation Reduction Act is working
China EVs 😂
They dominate ev sales here in Asean. Tesla is in fourth place maybe fifth by now.
@@kamsunleong6648 Yes Chinese EVs are in China.
当然没有,美国是最棒的😊😊
you make no sense at all
🤣🤣🤣
You know what...?
👇👇👇
I've never been assaulted by such a villainous line of reasoning:
"Limit your industrial expansion to avoid making your products so ridiculously cheap that we can't even begin to compete (as our economy circles the drain)."
🤣🤣🤣
What sort of ludicrous argument is that?
