Some people also forget Ang is just a kid not even a teen. So its great to understand he wants to still have his childhood but forced to have burdens to grow up.
Tough burden for him 😢
God I LOVE the Kyoshi Warriors! They're badass normals, meaning that they have no bending or powers, just pure physical talent. My only real complaint about them is that they aren't utilized as much as they should be, with only their leader being a mild exception. Otherwise, these ladies are just a treat!
I think they are pretty much committed to protecting their town, so since most of the show is not based around their town you don't see them,
@@the19Zabaniyah Oh undoubtedly, I just wish there were more excuses to see em more often. ^^
@@ramenbomberdeluxe4958 gotchu fam
@@ramenbomberdeluxe4958 personally a great excuse to have suki around longer wouldve been for her to be the one to try to warn ba sing se of Azula and being the one to escaped being captive.
So-excited-he's-foaming-at-the-mouth guy never fails to make me chuckle
And here we see the first example of Sokkas arc. Humility. The ability to learn, grow, admit his wrongs, and change. And truthfully, you gotta kinda expect sexism from someone who grew up where he did. The only young man left to protect his village after his father, the chief of his tribe, takes all the warriors away to help fight in the war. His whole life revolved around protecting and providing for a group of women and children. But even so, he understood that he was wrong in his belief, and changed. God i love this show. There's so much I'm excited for you guys to see.
Yep. It’s really hard to admit the views you grew up with are wrong and to evolve. Especially in such a short amount of time. 🤩
thus begins sokka's journey to become a master backbender lol
AYO 😂💀
I always loved the line "i am a warrior... but im a girl too" cause in other stories when they do a female warrior(or other similar things) is dealing with sexism specially someone she is working with then the story ends with " i respect you as a warrior" and imo it does come off as he ONLY respects her cause she is a warrior but looks down at all other women.
Some stories completely drop the sexism aspect of the character after and some do further explore how the character changes how he views women.
Well said. 🙂😎🤘
Avatar is a masterclass in nuanced, flawed characters who can grow and improve but will never be perfect.
Love it 😍
It may not seem like it at first, but Sokka is gonna be one of your favorite characters in the show, trust me. His character growth is insane.
We trust ya. Just can’t see it yet 😜🤗😇
You are going to get your mind blown by this masterpiece. I’m so glad to find people that will “ get “ this show and take it all in. I wish I could see this again for the first time.
We are very excited to finally watch it. Have heard so many great things about it, and the show doesn’t disappoint 🤩
Love the foaming at the mouth guy. Also I love the character development of Sokka. Great way to portray a lesson learned in a positive way. Wish more modern media could have writing this good.
I also love _"I AM a warrior, but I'm a GIRL too"._ Showing that she doesn't have to be masculine mary sue to be strong.
Well said. 🙂
Gotta love Sokka's character growth, getting the sexism beaten out of him 👏
Frankly it shows how honest of a thinker he is. How many people have you seen get immediatley proven wrong like that, and they just go "nuh-uh" and double and triple down.
@@ayanleman
Well he is one of the smartest characters in the show
@@jesuspernia8031 true, but you're never too smart to be an idiot. Intelligence and intellectual honestly are two different things
The biggest criticism I've seen of the live action version.
@@ayanleman
Very true. My best friend is just like that. Very book smart but is just oblivious as fuck sometimes.
10:31 Several different martial arts use the opponent's force against them. Aikido is one, as is Tai Chi, which is what waterbending is based on, also Ba Gua, which is what airbending is based on.
😎👍🙂
Man this show is such an adventure. I was lucky to see it when it first aired. It started with just me watching it, to my whole family watching it with me at the end. Just to show how amazing it is.
That’s great your whole family got into it 😀
The worst part of admitting you're wrong is being ridiculed FOR admitting you're wrong...
this where Sokka's story arc begins :D
Sokka the back bender arc 😉
The road to Wang Fire.
@@corryjamieson3909 indeed

Foaming mouth guy is 10/10 recurring joke character, second only to a certain vendor of leafy plant crops
Love well executed recurring jokes. 🤩
This episode had great character growth in a subtle way cause it is such a fun episode, but it really shows how the different members of the group are still young and learning life lessons
Good reminder they are still so young 🙂
Momo (jp) - peach
Unagi (jp) - eel
❤️
That air bender fidget spinner comment nearly made me spit out my drink. 😅
Which is funny because, if you think about, that takes crazy precise mastery to move multiple tiny balls in a perfect circle. Fun but also an unintentional flex from Aang.
I am a natural type.. but i've seen cosplay with it and i f*cking love the traditional Kyoshi Make-Up. ❤
Avatar is so hype. Let's fing go. Thanks guys. Love my wholesome reactors.
🤗☺️
Sokka is lowkey one of the most important characters of that decade at least. The lessons his journey has for young boys are really valuable
Thanks for doing twice a week! Can’t wait to watch more !
Our pleasure 😀🤗
Sokka learning from his mistakes is so important, especially these days the way things are going where you aren't allowed to correct your mistakes anymore because you're immediately villainized and cancelled. That's why I hate so much that they completely removed the plotline from the live action version.
A big nuance you need to remember is that most people who get "canceled" are those who not only were rightfully called out, but more importantly refused to change. JonTron's racist ranting, Dave Chapelle's blatant transphobia, people would have forgiven them had they at least TRIED to learn from their mistakes and move on.
But since they dont change and, more often than not, shield themselves with complaints of "cancel culture", and with a bunch of people who believe "cancel culture" is some major thing rushing to defend them, there's just no accountability taken. Oh, and it doesnt help that the cancelling almost never hinders a career that much, if at all.
@@ramenbomberdeluxe4958 I wasn't talking about the people that deserve it, I'm talking about the people that said one stupid thing 10 years ago and get attacked now despite the fact that they have changed.
@@gaara_of_the_desert1118 Right, sorry, I just wanna be sure is all. People are VERY quick to blame "muh SJWs" and whatnot, even nowadays, so I wanted to clear the air.
@@ramenbomberdeluxe4958 you're just as bad as they are. Canceling people for words by taking actions to make them lose their livelihood for using words is too far. No one should have income taken away and have financial ruin because you think you're some sort of moral judge. You're a hypocrite and probably guilty of things too. There is nothing more disgusting than you doing vigilante justice and going too far.
@@ramenbomberdeluxe4958 who are you to decide who deserves punishment? You're no judge. You're nothing but someone who doesn't care of the consequences of you trying to ruin people's jobs or their employees jobs to pay bills and put food on the table. People are allowed to have their own opinions and thoughts.
I love that Sokka insists that girls sew, because my mom taught me how when I was a little boy. I don’t do it often but that did make me the best at home economics in middle school and it’s something I’d like to get back into. 2 other things I’d like to get doing again: violin and taekwondo, even if I have to start from the bottom again I want to go back and get my black belt.
Kyoshi is my favorite of the past Avatars.. there are two great books of her actual amazing origin story. A Daughter of two criminals actually, Over 300 years ago. She bet a great enemy of the earth-kingdom.. a conquerer actually and fall in love with a lady of the Fire Nation.. so things used to be different.
Also.. Suki is such a great girl, passionate, smart, strong, funny.. 😊
Kyoshi is the most overrated avatar off all time. She did fuck all when Chin was about to destroy the blance exept run away when he was literaly at her doorstep and he only died due to luck meaning she basically condemd the earth kingdom to be under the yoke off a tyrant for eternity. Also she established the Dai Li so thanks for that Kyoshi.
@@samuelclayhills3298 Then you didn't narratively understand what her character is and you obviously haven't read the books. Also you just understood what you want to understand. I never said she was flawless as a character. apart from that, the Dai Li thing was in a different time and simply subject to different circumstances back then... so pull yourself together before you point the finger at me
@@GirlofCulture she's overrated nothing more
@@dukeheavens9990 Agree to disagree. I don't change my mind because of this. I said i like here the most and there is nothing you can do about it. Now move on.
See?
Sokka started as a douchbag and this "Where are the men that ambused us.." Oh.. when someone is just asking to get his ass kicked.. But as many others said before, he is learning from his mistakes and grow.. you don't see that in much animated shows, and thats why the writing is so good in this.
He does chug the respect women juice pretty quick.
@@jordanpeterson5140 Well.. normally Katara should be enough..but she is his sister and thats a different kind of relationship. It's good Suki kicked his ass, but still being helpful and nice. He just understood her love-language.
@@GirlofCulture yeah, it's a good thing he met Suki before he met you-know-who in Book 2.
@@jordanpeterson5140 The girl with the "P*nis haircut?" oh wait, that is from this abonomation of a movie we do not speak about it.
It's also a worldview that you can easily see where it came from even within this small amount of time. Being closed off, only exposed to water tribe culture, and slapped the responsibilities of the men in his tribe at a young age, it's no wonder his view was narrow.
Good to see you guys are enjoying the show.
The Kyoshi warriors are really cool, and both their design and phylosophy really makes me love them alltogether, specially considering how badass Avatar Kyoshi was.
You guys mentioned how Aang and Sokka grew during this episode.
You were on point when you said how Aang carries a heavy burden on his shoulders, having to save the world and having to deal with the fact that he is the last airbender. Like youve said, no pressure.
And, back when I first watched it, I really liked they talking about sexism on what was supposed to be a "kids show", but it proves to be way more than that multiple times.
The character growth, the worldbuilding, the story, all the aspects that makes this great.
Looking foward to see you guys in the next episodes.
When that one demented fire-bender pulls up
*Everything changes*
-o- Edit -o-
I'm not referring to Zuko or the General.
Glad you guys r enjoying it this much already
11:31 it’s the fault the kid that spread the word
4:58 I want this man's drawing skills... XD
10:32 Yep, sure is! 🙏🏽💪
The show is episodic for the beginning of season one. In a few episodes it'll define what's at stake and what needs to be done.
The kyoshi warriors use Tessenjutsu and Aikido
7:06 My man Sokka! Becoming mature! 🙏🏽💪
11:52 😊💪
Nothing much to say here other than how jealous I am you guys get to experience this show for the first time.
Hope the dog slept well.
5:14 Probably a good lung/diaphragm-workout for an Airbender.
I love the animals Avatar
What about that 'foaming at the mouth' guy.
Just the usual AtLA fan.
LoL
J/k
Sorry if its 'spoilers' but this is the last time Sokka makes a sexist comment. FREAKIN LOVE THIS SHOW!
I like that our heroes in this (and in Legend of Korra when you get to it) have flaws that they need to overcome.
This show is like the most adult kids show ever... 4 episodes in, they're talking about trauma, genocide, and sexism and it is barely the tip of the iceberg. I only saw this as an adult and I honest to god wish I'd seen it while it was airing..
Zuko isn't even imressed by the Kyoshi warriors. The fire nation gals must be somthing else or Zuko is just extremly based and redpilled althoug that probably isn't true considering the show.
I think his experiences with Azula forced him to raise a rather high bar for girl power.
You'll see Suki again. The series keeps getting better as it goes along.
