  • This 2016 golf had water leaking into the boot. Tried changing the rear camera drain hose, because it was rotted and grommet missing. Leak remained. fFound info in forums about the rear cabin vents leaking. I remembered seeing them while investigating the first time. sunroof drains also run through there, but those were fine. Poured a bottle of water on top of the driver's side tail light assembly and sure enough, water was running in at the vent. Removed the rear bumper so I could get clear access to the vents, removed vents, cleaned everything up, reinstalled vents, caulked with Dicor 551lsb non sagging sealant. Leaving seats out to dry and interior out so I can watch it for a while. Will update as necessary.

I’m trying to design a 12v turbo blower to exhaust air running on 2watt that it claims. It should help with condensation of any kind and cool off the car a couple degrees on hot days.

Hey man I'm having this same issue, just discovered it today. How has it been since you caulked up the vents? Any more water ingress?

FOR EVERY GOLF 7 OWNER: check these out:
(tip: keep a toilet paper roll in the sidepockets of the booth. Thats how i noticed my problem, it was wet, even tho no water was visible)
      1. slam vents (water in booth or underneath the backseat) take vents off, clean and apply tons of silicone, new ones will corrode eventually.
      2. Panoramic roof drains (they might be clogged leading to infiltration by the panoramic roof) ugly mess, stained interior on all walls down to the footwell.
      3. Speaker sealant foam (all 4)(water underneath the speakers grill and on the inside of the door sealant at speaker level, leads to water in the footwell and mold later) ugglier mess.
      4. Reverse camera cover/drain pipe (water in the booth).
I was lucky. Had all of them.
      5. Tail lights. Water in booth (but i think the vents are the problem here). Dont know how to fix this, but check after pressure washing your car.

You don't need to remove the carpet/trim etc. from the inside the car, the vents can easily be removed using a thin screwdriver under the useless gasket

It needed to be removed and hung up to dry anyway. Even the back seats were sopping wet because my daughter didn't notice the water or say anything about how bad the carc was fogging up. I noticed it when I went to take it to my shop at work to change oil. Also, there's going to be water inside that pocket that needs to fill and overflow before it can make it to the spare tire well.

i have a pool of water in the spare wheel in boot. do you think the source is likely the vents more than the lights?

      @WEAZY-E  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hard to know without opening up the side panel and watching where the water is coming in. But it is a highly likely suspect.

There's also a drain tube for the back-up camera/hatch release that fails the tube could be leaking into your car instead of out. Look at hatch with it open look for a rubber Gromit directly inline with the hatch release, this Gromit is the exit point for water caught behind hatch release if the Gromit is gone the drain hose could be leaking water into cars hatch instead of out to to of rear bumper. The most likely spot is either the side vents or the tail light seal. How's your headliner if you have a sun roof that could also be the cause (plugged drains).

sorted the drain tube. This rainy weather is really filling the vent compartments!!@@harryberry474

Yes. The thing about the camera drain hose is true. The rubber grommet where it comes out the bottom of the hatch was worn off on mine and I replaced that first. Unfortunately wasn't where my water was coming from though. Definitely something to check.

Take those out and tape them up and just crack the window when you want your recirculator off

That car has enough problems with moisture inside, even with the leaks solved. I'm actually starting to wonder if the heater core is leaking or something. Had to put a can of damp rid in there to keep moisture from collecting on the windshield and the surface of the pleather seats feeling moist. I hate this car, but I'm into it for too much now and need to get my money's worth.

I have got a 2018 golf 7 alltrack and i dont have any of those problems.

@silviutarcan5503... Good for you, I have a 2017 Alltrack SEL and don't either...BUT, many too many do have water ingress problems this is just one of many. Another I just discovered is the drain tube that's at the rear hatch, the back-up/camera hatch release has a drain tube that fails, if you don't see a rubber Gromit below the release with hatch open look at bottom of hatch where the latch is in middle of hatch...no Gromit it could be leaking inside. I'm thankful for these videos because they could save you major headaches down the road.

@@harryberry474 Thats the thing , i'm thinking they fixed some of these problems in the facelift, ours are mk 7.5 because the majority of videos i have seen are about mk 7 and pretty much all hatchbacks, mine is an estate. However i do have that badge drain tube damaged and while it's still there it doesnt protrude out anymore and it's flash inside (the head of it is missing) but i dont have any leaks anywhere.

@@silviutarcan5503 ...No they haven't fixed anything in Mk7.5's Ive read plenty of leak issues with Mk7.5's, I think it's more of a crapshoot some have issues some don't...yet. Those rear side vents should have been sealed from the factory but they're just snapped in and loose fitting. A relatively easy fix but the car owner isn't aware until leak is discovered there should be a TSB for this issue like the one for the sunroof drains. The onus should be on VW to repair not the car owner. This will be my last VW/AUDI I'll ever own I've exclusively had Audi's and VW's since the late 70's.

@@harryberry474 yeah man , vw are not what they used to be. To be honest i didnt really know what to buy as i have alwaya owned vw's . I have a sharan as well and a golf mk4 and those two are tanks. With the alltrack i have one more problem i need to fix in the summer which is the front doors are rubbing in the plastic seal behind the fender and on the drivers side there is significant damage on the door edge for about 4 cm . I need to sort that out but before i can fix the door i need to figure out how to make that plastic sit further back and to stop rubbing the door every time i open and close. It's such a shame because the car runs really well.
