People need to realize something amazing about Carl Lewis. He consistently jumped 28 ft or better, year in & year out, from 1979 to 1996. For 17 yrs straight!! Nobody ever came close to that consistency.
Maybe not great conditions or physically he wasn't doing as well that day. He did actually have a legal 8.96 jump with 1.2 wind, but it was never sent in to be ratified because someone was standing in front of the gauge.
This jump was 8.42m, it was his winning jump from 1997 World Championships. In his last couple of jumps he had some marginal foul-jumps at around 8.80m
Carl or Pedroso? Pedroso did an 8.96 wind legal but there was someone standing in front of it; Carl did an 8.91 wind aided in Tokyo in 91. I think Powell did an 8.99 wind aided as well.
...even did - his 8.96 wash´t just counted as the world record cause a trainer of italy stand in front of the wind barometer ... wait - here´s a link - german video :D
actually he did it just didnt count because a large man stood inftont of anometor watch top 10 best long jumpers of all time and also the real world record of 12m was not in legal conditions theres been many studies on it ;)

No I believe he did a 8.91, but it was wind aided. His best legal is something like 8.87.
Genial. Qué pena que le robaran ese récord del mundo.
Oh sorry. I didnt read the chain. I thought you were talking about pedroso.
Pedroso equals GREATNESS. wathc over 9 meters tho fuckin sick
I'm not a big fan of the full hitch technique but that was sexy
8.96 I believe. Not 8.91
