I'm glad that finally someone made a demo of Dione working on modern electronic music, cause as you mention all the other guys just throw to it some boring live recorded drums and then..yeah that's my review :D :D :D
Wow! That’s awesome! Planning to build this 500 series rack for better mixing while recording my eurorack synths into Logic, and then also for mixbus work. Thanks for the comment! 👌🏼
Great video! Cool to hear unit on some electronic music! Still sounds like it’s excellent for this material. That t1, t,2 circuit really add some color
Great video. Liked the electronic music orientation. All the gear vids online, even the plugin videos, are all about trashing room mics on acoustic drum kits, or EQ's electric guitars, etc. I guess a lot of people still write/record rock music. But rock music is in a death spiral, and basically all pop, hip hop, EDM, and most of the cool indie music is based around analog drum machines and synthesizers, samples, etc. Wonder when the gear reviews and demos are going to wake up to the fact that rock music has become a small sliver of what's out there now. Good luck with growing the channel!
Yeah with analog, at least in my mind it’s hard to really make a decision when you’re comparing different compressors, EQs, etc from different companies without listening to them for certain characteristics, and there’s just hardly any demonstrations out there for a lot of it for different styles of synth based work. Hopefully I’ll build the collection more in the future and make some more videos like this! Thanks for the support!
@@Nematomusic if you happen to grab a DPX and compare saturating the input stage with the UAD unison on some analog synths, I wouldn't complain. That's my next step...
Professionals writing and recording rock music will always be just as popular and as important as electro. If you thought or still think that has or will ever change, I'm certain you are under some cognitive dissonance about music and production in general. There will always be room for both genres, as well as many others and both as much alike in the industry. Maybe you want to see a certain style or approach die out, but be prepared to be let down in that way for many years
Coming in late and hot ..the shadow hills had a faster release than the hardware which meant you had to raise the makeup gain. It sounded flatter because of it. Although i do like the non linearities of the THD.
All comes down to character I would say with some specific functions for each. Having only used this one, from my research the SSL and this are going to be more comparable. The Neve Diode is maybe going to give you the most “color” or “warmest” sound. This and the SSL tend to be most transparent, but the price tag on this made me go this route! Hope that helps!
Great video! Did you happen to mod the power supply in any way to make the Dione fit? I have an API lunchbox and some power supplies you can unscrew part of the slot inside to make room for the extra pins on the wesaudio products, but it seems the api can’t be modded in this way.
Honestly while I haven’t had any trouble with the recall and digital integration features myself, I primarily am just using the hardware manually while working on my personal mixes. I liked the sound for the price and the digital control is a bonus!
I don't think there's a wrong way to go about it. Without compression, there are still many other tools available to get a solid mix, especially EQ. They're one in the same in a lot of ways! Most of the time, I'd be saving this compressor for my master output in comparison to some other options for drums with electronic music. The main plan for this 500 series rack is to improve the audio quality of sounds I'm recording from the eurorack hardware. Kind of a purist way to go about it, but recording things in already EQ'ed and slightly compressed will limit how much processing needs to take place in the workstation afterwards!
@@Nematomusic His way of thinking blew my mind. I never thought of this. And this is why I love electronic music. Even if I can't play any instrument, with the right amount of knowledge everything is possible.
Hello friends! :) Let me know your thoughts on analog/digital compression!
Im excited to watch this channel grow! MORE SUBS!!!
Amen! 🤙🏼

@@Nematomusic Any thoughts on getting the Prometheus eq as well?? Looks like the pulteq eq+ ssl comp style is the way to go on mixbuss
I’ve heard good things and would love to try it out! Also eyeing some of the API and Elysia options to fill the 500 rack at some point!
Cool video, and music. I am about to get one of these. Appreciate your review.
Enjoy! I love having it, and am hoping to get the Prometheus EQ this year!
@@Nematomusic the Prometheus is on my radar. Such cool gear.
I have 15 of Dione and 15 of Hyperion I use them for mixing and then I have ngbuscomp for mixbus it's really good !

That is nuts! I just ordered the ngbuscomp and a prometheus, wouldn't hurt adding a pair of mimas, a hyperion and a dione in the future
Are you saying that you have 15 units of each? Why on earth?

Couldn’t agree more! One of the large benefits of investing in analog equipment in general!

Awesome! I’ll be exploring the Elysia Karacter 500 series soon if that interests you! Thanks for the sub! 🙌🏻
@@Nematomusic wow! My first purchase of #500series gear was an Elysia Karacter. We share the same pursuit of audio excellence 🥂Cheers!
Awesome! I’m assuming you enjoy having it then?
Great demo man!
Glad you enjoyed! Good gear makes it easier 🤙🏼
What's the difference between this compressor, a Neve Diod Compressor and a SSL compressor ?

Dione (VCA) vs Rhea Compressor (Vari-Mu) ? Which one do you think might be on the warm, fat, 3D type of music…? Thanks

Hmm not sure with my Midas case now that you mention it, but I didn’t do any type of modding to the power supply and it seems to work just fine!
Someone said the recall is a bit buggy. Is that true? I'm about ready to buy one :)

what s the difference except the digital control is there sonically between this comp and ssL XLogic ?
Honestly haven’t used the SSL XLogic at this point, although I’ve heard good things. Hopefully someone can help out in the comments here!
