For the record I love fighting games, I played Way of the exploding fist to death, Karateka, MK 2, SF and it's various updates and a load of boxing games. The problem with MKX is that it does nothing new, it charges AAA price for the same old gameplay, how can that ever be worthabuy. If it was £10.99 I may have given it a thumb up but £34.99 for updated graphics and a few moves, what a load of shite.

macmeezy82 the difference is that changing the number of wheels on a car would be pure idiocy. Three wheels would create extreme instability, and five wheels would reduce mileage because of the added traction, not to mention the fact that it would take up previous space in the car's design.

anejchy Rubbish, FPS games (except COD) are totally different, tell me how Stalker is anything like Quake or how is Tribes anything like RTCW, or how is Team Fortress anything like Arma III? MK however is the same game as it was 20+ years ago, this is the tenth MK and the gameplay has not evolved one bit in all that time.
Worth A Buy Well it's a fighting game how much can you do. The big thing is that you have 3 sets of abilities for every character which is great so you can play the character to your liking. That is just about the only big thing about it. But the thing that matters is new characters and moves and Xrays and fatalities. You know... the things that make a fighthing game a fighting game. I don't think they can make huge improvements and they definitely won't make it TP or FP because that isn't the same game and it would betray their whole fanbase (that they still have and also the pro scene).
anejchy This is not a BIG thing, in fact it's so trivial I never even mentioned it in the review, can't you see that it's yet another marketing ploy, they hold back 2 or 3 moves, add them as special character choices and people think it's a feature. We should have had them moves from the off, maybe am just so wise now that I can just see right through the bullshit when most other people just keep falling for it.
Worth A Buy You do have the moves from the start lol it's just a variety of the character. For example you can play some guy melee style or gun style. Or I think it's Jax melee or pulse. I seem to know more from viewing a few streams than you after you "reviewed" it...
Worth A Buy Only to average players. The game implemented a lot of different mechanics, from tag system(that is removed from this game unfortunately) to x ray system, more in depth combat and balance. To a nooby eye it may look same, but for people that are deep in it, its not, as it's totally different game. The only thing same is the camera angle. Mortal Combat 10 is not as good as 9, but saying the game is same as the one 20 years ago is very ignorant.
I understand complaining about shitty DLC but, am I wrong or are you complaining about Mortal Kombat not evolving into an open world first person shooter MMORPG?

I disagree most of what you said (it is overpriced and locking Gori behind DLC is bullshit). Most of what I think has already been said by others, but I am amazed that you don't think this is better than a game from 91. You say there is nothing new but there is: interactable environments, x-rays, using the meter for EX attacks, new characters, 3 different playstyles for each character etc. All of the gamemodes are similar because its a fighting game. I don't know what you were expecting, and no offense but you didn't exactly play like a pro ;) However you are entitled to your own opinion, and your opinion is why we watch your videos, and I'm not going to try to shove mine down your throat.
In mortal combat 3 for the ps1 you could uppercut people to different levels so even back then there was interactive environment. The tower mode was the original mode
Well I think it's the best Mortal Kombat game yet, so if you like fighting games it's definitely worth buying at some point, though it is a bit expensive so it wouldn't hurt to wait a bit for a sale or something.
Danic Well The only thing that is really new is the 3 playstyles you can choose, but you have to admit while gameplay is good, every different game mode is a standard match with a different context.

Though others may not always share the same opinion, I think people right now are craving reviews that take a more realistic or, dare I say, negative approach to modern video games after years of getting the run around from these big name review sites, who are showered with freebies and pressured by the game publishers. "Same game as it was in 1991" Oh come on Mack, that is a ridiculous statement, I hope you weren't serious when you said that and were just trolling MK fans with hyperbole. The gameplay has changed significantly from spamming punches repeatedly, leg sweeps, and the 1-3 special moves. You actually have combos now, slightly different fighting styles, and a lot of other in-game content. I will agree with you that at 60 dollars it's definitely not wab, for me. This was one of my most anticipated games but I'm done paying 60 dollars for games, especially digital downloaded ones on steam. I think it's a solid fighting game with plenty of content for MK fans, an improvement over the previous one overall. It's changed enough that it did warrant being made into a new game unlike what they have been doing with street fighter games for a while. You are breaking down the mechanics so much that you can use the same argument for practically any genre of gaming. Fps, racing, rpg, anything.
Seraphyx I have a few MK games and right now and playing them one at a time for 15mins and what am seeing is the same old gameplay, combos, moves, sounds just with worse graphics.
Worth A Buy I don't know what to tell you then. I honestly don't even remember any real combos in the 90s MK games, mostly 1, 2 and 3. The gameplay back then was incredibly shallow and cheap, they've evolved from that imo. They've also changed characters pretty significantly and gave them real personalities rather than just a palette swap costume. I know the changes aren't as visibly apparent as some other genre's progress/evolution but I do see significant changes and improvements to the fighting game genre. For 10 iterations of the game maybe it's not enough like you say, but they have tried to deviate from the typical fighting game or add onto it (like in MK 9 adding the tag team stuff, but people weren't receptive to it and didn't really play it almost at all), but I don't think they ever did as well as the "normal" format for an MK game. I don't really believe it's from lack of trying, people just don't seem to be interested in anything too different.
***** Now that is definitely a price I can work with, but I don't know how trustworthy that site is. I've heard that they sold stolen keys in the past. And the whole dlc and microtransaction stuff in MKX really put me off from it. I might still pick it up at some point though.

In the video he tells you his opinion then tells you whether or not to buy said game based solely on his opinion. If the conclusion was stated objectively or the focus was completely on a objective observation of the game, then the title would be more legit. Simply put, he isn't telling you if you would be getting your monies worth. He is telling you if he feels that he got *his* monies worth. No one person's opinion is the ultimate one.

I've watched you a while Mack but your verdict on Mortal Kombat X is really stupid. Fighting games are best in 2D. Mortal Kombat was 3D from Mortal Kombat 4 to Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe. Being able to sidestep a spear or a fireball did not make the games better. Key examples; Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon had some interesting ideas with the dynamic stage fatalities, Hara-Kiri and Kreate-a-fatality system but they were poorly implemented because of the 3D movement. Why do you think Street Fighter, Blaz Blue, Skull Girls and Guilty Gear are still in 2D? Because they work a lot better. Slicker animations, better combos, more fluidity, just a few features of a decent 2D fighter. There are good 3D fighters too like Virtua Fighter V and Soul Calibur V but for as fun as those games are they pale in comparison to anything Netherrealm has put out since 2011. Mortal Kombat X is a great fighter. This video was misinformed, as a fighting game fan I found it hard to listen to your points. It's okay to hate Mortal Kombat but to bash an entire type of fighter, albeit a much superior type by most accounts is childish and stupid.
I agree with Mack in the sense that don't present a game as "the next generation" or "groundbreaking" when you've done nothing to alter the gameplay significantly in anyway. Just call it what it is, a reskin with some new moves and characters lmao.
I really think you're missing the point of this, this fighter is really really deep and actually has a lot of content if you take the time to learn every character, and I mean really learn not just learn a few special moves. I think that this game is really meant for consoles though, I can't imagine playing this on PC for some reason. There is so many possibilities and they really give you a lot of freedom with the way you choose to see fight. I feel like this game is one of the deepest games I've played in a long time and is definitely worth a buy if you're willing to put the time in and learn how to play.
And I really think this game is meant to be played with other on a console, so maybe the review is valid because he didn't play the game the way it was meant to be played, so to him the game is terrible, but it wasn't played the way it was meant to be played.

im next to you It's the best MK game for sure but as I said in the review the game is pretty much the same as it was in 1991 so if you are hard up for cash maybe get a cheaper one, sure it won't look as good but the fighting is pretty much the same other than a few small tweaks. Oh and the big new feature of having three variations of each character which basically means they don't give you all your powers, they make you chose one of three possible styles when you should really have them all...and they call it a feature lol
You have to understand that the fans of Mortal Kombat don't want the game to change to the point where its not Mortal Kombat any more. The classic feel with better graphics is what people bought it for, they didn't get it for its fresh content, that's just a perk. I take it your just doing a quick review to throw it under the bus, by how you just keep uppercutting and punching in your game play.

There was actually 5 3D Mortal Kombats and the people said that they did not like it and they requested it to change back into 2D and they gave it to the people but I suggest if you want a real advancement you play MK vs DC and then play MK9 and see how different it is

I don't think you understand what these type of games are. they are very competitive. and the level of skill you can achieve is up the roof pulling off combos, pokes, mixups, ect you never spoke on any of these terms. I do agree that it is the same story and things like that, but nobody plays these games for those reasons.
Mortal Kombat X worth a buy? Sure, when it's the Komplete Edition (Full Game) during a Steam sale with at least 50% off. Then it's worth a buy and not before. Until then I will entertain myself with Mortal Kombat 9 Komplete Edition.

Valo56 the character roster is vastly different from mk9, they also have 3 different fighting styles/moves/specials and a different skin for each, 100 brutality's, hundreds of intro dialogue for each charcater etc which wasn't mentioned in this review ......and the continuation of the story to answer your question I'll probably pick it up at the first price drop in asda

They made a third person 3d version of MK and it went over like a lead balloon so they went back to 2d.. Game is great as is. MK is about competition not so much about innovation. I don't think you get what makes the game popular. Fans of the game want the core game to stay a side scrolling fighting game..

Every developer is afraid to make a full 3 d open world action fighting games, because they dont know if they will get any money from it. Task itself is too difficult, without being cheezy or stiff is something difficult to pull off. I would LOVE to see MK evolve to open world 3D movement fighting machine with ability to switch to REAL first person view and real damage system (if someone pokes your eye - you wont see shit in first person), that is so cool

Daniero1994 He's serious, and I happen to agree with him. Does he get rather vulgar during his reviews? Absolutely, but that is part of his comedy. If you want an calmer explanation of what he is saying then here is what I gathered from him; He is basically saying that the game series has changed little in any significant way since its initial incarnation back in the 90's, but the developers are still charging top dollar for it. Obviously they are still playing off of the same formula that people loved back then and people still love today which is fine, however the mechanics of the various games has not changed much over the years. They have added combos, characters, and new animations yes, but that is something that developers can deliver in a matter of months, not years. This is why he says the game is exactly the same. Is the same game a bad thing for the people who love it? No, but it isn't worth full retail either in his opinion. In addition to charging full retail price for the game, micro transactions are implemented on top of that retail price to over simplify gameplay and basically follows a pay-to-win method that is plaguing the gaming industry. This game is by far not the first game he has accused of this and if you watch any more of his videos then you will know this. If anyone were to think that this additional DLC was an afterthought and not conceived during the initial construction phases of the game, then I would tell you that you haven't studied modern gaming business models lately. If DLC were to come out a year or two after release because the devs wanted to add something that the community was begging for, then that is one thing. But to have extra content basically ready to buy on release, that is an obvious cash grab. Lastly, if he seems like a "hater rambling" that is because he has witnessed this happening with game after game, year after year, and it's only getting worse. Companies aren't even selling full games anymore. They make a full game, strip it down to its core functions, and then proceed to piece meal to us for additional money. Or in the case with this particular game, they barely have anything "next generation" that warrants the price tag. I have personally watched dozens of lofty titled games with hefty price tags drop in value sixty percent on average in the course of a year or two, simply due to the fact that nothing is really different. Not enough has changed in this series to justify the full price tag. Do developers deserve to get paid for their work? Absolutely. I love to see devs making amazing games and getting rewarded for it. But these days there is no innovation, just imitation. Like modern movies, hardly anyone has an original idea anymore. We're seeing the eighth, tenth, fifteenth iterations of the same games over and over again just so gaming studios can make a lot of money. And sadly, that is the way it will continue as long as people continue to burn cash on products such as this. Is it a good game? Yes. Is it worth the top dollar price tag? No.

AskEpic I mentioned Chivalry because at the same time when MK 1 was released we had 2-D sword fighting games, they evolved into the awesome games we have now like Chivalry and Mount and Blade, MK has not evolved.

Worth A Buy Well it's a fighting game how much can you do. The big thing is that you have 3 sets of abilities for every character which is great so you can play the character to your liking. That is just about the only big thing about it. But the thing that matters is new characters and moves and Xrays and fatalities. You know... the things that make a fighthing game a fighting game.
I don't think they can make huge improvements and they definitely won't make it TP or FP because that isn't the same game and it would betray their whole fanbase (that they still have and also the pro scene).
anejchy This is not a BIG thing, in fact it's so trivial I never even mentioned it in the review, can't you see that it's yet another marketing ploy, they hold back 2 or 3 moves, add them as special character choices and people think it's a feature. We should have had them moves from the off, maybe am just so wise now that I can just see right through the bullshit when most other people just keep falling for it.
Worth A Buy You do have the moves from the start lol it's just a variety of the character. For example you can play some guy melee style or gun style. Or I think it's Jax melee or pulse.

Worth A Buy Only to average players. The game implemented a lot of different mechanics, from tag system(that is removed from this game unfortunately) to x ray system, more in depth combat and balance. To a nooby eye it may look same, but for people that are deep in it, its not, as it's totally different game. The only thing same is the camera angle.
Mortal Combat 10 is not as good as 9, but saying the game is same as the one 20 years ago is very ignorant.

I disagree most of what you said (it is overpriced and locking Gori behind DLC is bullshit). Most of what I think has already been said by others, but I am amazed that you don't think this is better than a game from 91. You say there is nothing new but there is: interactable environments, x-rays, using the meter for EX attacks, new characters, 3 different playstyles for each character etc.
All of the gamemodes are similar because its a fighting game. I don't know what you were expecting, and no offense but you didn't exactly play like a pro ;)

In mortal combat 3 for the ps1 you could uppercut people to different levels so even back then there was interactive environment. The tower mode was the original mode

Well I think it's the best Mortal Kombat game yet, so if you like fighting games it's definitely worth buying at some point, though it is a bit expensive so it wouldn't hurt to wait a bit for a sale or something.

Though others may not always share the same opinion, I think people right now are craving reviews that take a more realistic or, dare I say, negative approach to modern video games after years of getting the run around from these big name review sites, who are showered with freebies and pressured by the game publishers. Remember GameSpot's Jeff Gerstmann? I think this knowledge is starting to catch on and feel strongly that this will continue to be a growing trend in the years to come. Keep up the good work Mack, and try not to let the sheep get to you!

Oh come on Mack, that is a ridiculous statement, I hope you weren't serious when you said that and were just trolling MK fans with hyperbole. The gameplay has changed significantly from spamming punches repeatedly, leg sweeps, and the 1-3 special moves. You actually have combos now, slightly different fighting styles, and a lot of other in-game content.
I will agree with you that at 60 dollars it's definitely not wab, for me. This was one of my most anticipated games but I'm done paying 60 dollars for games, especially digital downloaded ones on steam. I think it's a solid fighting game with plenty of content for MK fans, an improvement over the previous one overall. It's changed enough that it did warrant being made into a new game unlike what they have been doing with street fighter games for a while.
You are breaking down the mechanics so much that you can use the same argument for practically any genre of gaming. Fps, racing, rpg, anything.
Seraphyx I have a few MK games and right now and playing them one at a time for 15mins and what am seeing is the same old gameplay, combos, moves, sounds just with worse graphics.
Worth A Buy I don't know what to tell you then. I honestly don't even remember any real combos in the 90s MK games, mostly 1, 2 and 3. The gameplay back then was incredibly shallow and cheap, they've evolved from that imo.
They've also changed characters pretty significantly and gave them real personalities rather than just a palette swap costume. I know the changes aren't as visibly apparent as some other genre's progress/evolution but I do see significant changes and improvements to the fighting game genre.
For 10 iterations of the game maybe it's not enough like you say, but they have tried to deviate from the typical fighting game or add onto it (like in MK 9 adding the tag team stuff, but people weren't receptive to it and didn't really play it almost at all), but I don't think they ever did as well as the "normal" format for an MK game. I don't really believe it's from lack of trying, people just don't seem to be interested in anything too different.
***** Now that is definitely a price I can work with, but I don't know how trustworthy that site is. I've heard that they sold stolen keys in the past. And the whole dlc and microtransaction stuff in MKX really put me off from it. I might still pick it up at some point though.

I've watched you a while Mack but your verdict on Mortal Kombat X is really stupid. Fighting games are best in 2D. Mortal Kombat was 3D from Mortal Kombat 4 to Mortal Kombat Vs DC Universe. Being able to sidestep a spear or a fireball did not make the games better. Key examples; Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon had some interesting ideas with the dynamic stage fatalities, Hara-Kiri and Kreate-a-fatality system but they were poorly implemented because of the 3D movement. Why do you think Street Fighter, Blaz Blue, Skull Girls and Guilty Gear are still in 2D? Because they work a lot better. Slicker animations, better combos, more fluidity, just a few features of a decent 2D fighter. There are good 3D fighters too like Virtua Fighter V and Soul Calibur V but for as fun as those games are they pale in comparison to anything Netherrealm has put out since 2011. Mortal Kombat X is a great fighter. This video was misinformed, as a fighting game fan I found it hard to listen to your points. It's okay to hate Mortal Kombat but to bash an entire type of fighter, albeit a much superior type by most accounts is childish and stupid.

I agree with Mack in the sense that don't present a game as "the next generation" or "groundbreaking" when you've done nothing to alter the gameplay significantly in anyway. Just call it what it is, a reskin with some new moves and characters lmao.
I really think you're missing the point of this, this fighter is really really deep and actually has a lot of content if you take the time to learn every character, and I mean really learn not just learn a few special moves. I think that this game is really meant for consoles though, I can't imagine playing this on PC for some reason. There is so many possibilities and they really give you a lot of freedom with the way you choose to see fight. I feel like this game is one of the deepest games I've played in a long time and is definitely worth a buy if you're willing to put the time in and learn how to play.
And I really think this game is meant to be played with other on a console, so maybe the review is valid because he didn't play the game the way it was meant to be played, so to him the game is terrible, but it wasn't played the way it was meant to be played.

im next to you It's the best MK game for sure but as I said in the review the game is pretty much the same as it was in 1991 so if you are hard up for cash maybe get a cheaper one, sure it won't look as good but the fighting is pretty much the same other than a few small tweaks. Oh and the big new feature of having three variations of each character which basically means they don't give you all your powers, they make you chose one of three possible styles when you should really have them all...and they call it a feature lol

The classic feel with better graphics is what people bought it for, they didn't get it for its fresh content, that's just a perk. There was actually 5 3D Mortal Kombats and the people said that they did not like it and they requested it to change back into 2D and they gave it to the people but I suggest if you want a real advancement you play MK vs DC and then play MK9 and see how different it is

Perhaps the genre isn't for you though? Mortal Kombat fans are a lot like Counter strike or Call of Duty fans. They only want a few extra features on a very familiar game. There is nothing wrong with that, but it only caters to fans and not new players.

Every developer is afraid to make a full 3 d open world action fighting games, because they dont know if they will get any money from it. Task itself is too difficult, without being cheezy or stiff is something difficult to pull off. I would LOVE to see MK evolve to open world 3D movement fighting machine with ability to switch to REAL first person view and real damage system (if someone pokes your eye - you wont see shit in first person), that is so cool

Daniero1994 He's serious, and I happen to agree with him. Does he get rather vulgar during his reviews? Absolutely, but that is part of his comedy. If you want an calmer explanation of what he is saying then here is what I gathered from him;
He is basically saying that the game series has changed little in any significant way since its initial incarnation back in the 90's, but the developers are still charging top dollar for it. Obviously they are still playing off of the same formula that people loved back then and people still love today which is fine, however the mechanics of the various games has not changed much over the years. They have added combos, characters, and new animations yes, but that is something that developers can deliver in a matter of months, not years. This is why he says the game is exactly the same. Is the same game a bad thing for the people who love it? No, but it isn't worth full retail either in his opinion.
In addition to charging full retail price for the game, micro transactions are implemented on top of that retail price to over simplify gameplay and basically follows a pay-to-win method that is plaguing the gaming industry. This game is by far not the first game he has accused of this and if you watch any more of his videos then you will know this. If anyone were to think that this additional DLC was an afterthought and not conceived during the initial construction phases of the game, then I would tell you that you haven't studied modern gaming business models lately. If DLC were to come out a year or two after release because the devs wanted to add something that the community was begging for, then that is one thing. But to have extra content basically ready to buy on release, that is an obvious cash grab.
Lastly, if he seems like a "hater rambling" that is because he has witnessed this happening with game after game, year after year, and it's only getting worse. Companies aren't even selling full games anymore. They make a full game, strip it down to its core functions, and then proceed to piece meal to us for additional money. Or in the case with this particular game, they barely have anything "next generation" that warrants the price tag. I have personally watched dozens of lofty titled games with hefty price tags drop in value sixty percent on average in the course of a year or two, simply due to the fact that nothing is really different. Not enough has changed in this series to justify the full price tag.
Do developers deserve to get paid for their work? Absolutely. I love to see devs making amazing games and getting rewarded for it. But these days there is no innovation, just imitation. Like modern movies, hardly anyone has an original idea anymore. We're seeing the eighth, tenth, fifteenth iterations of the same games over and over again just so gaming studios can make a lot of money. And sadly, that is the way it will continue as long as people continue to burn cash on products such as this. Is it a good game? Yes. Is it worth the top dollar price tag? No.

Fatality tokens are completely optional and they're for those who are too dumb enough to remember inputs for fatalities or pause the game for 2 seconds to look at the move list to see the inputs. Anyone who bought those tokens are idiots.

The DLC characters are characters that couldn't be done by the time the game released. I'll concede with Goro because that actually was pretty scummy. The other characters though? No.

AskEpic I mentioned Chivalry because at the same time when MK 1 was released we had 2-D sword fighting games, they evolved into the awesome games we have now like Chivalry and Mount and Blade, MK has not evolved.
