Trey Nygma I think I have seen those guys in passing 🤔🤔 I don’t know if I’ve really heard their music though. I’ll have to check them out! Thanks for the suggestion! 💜
you should check out Wind Rose, they're a Lord of the Rings themed Dwarven metal band as well as Gloryhammer (the lead singer of alestorm is their keyboardist and plays the evil wizard in their stories) and NANOWAR OF STEEL (Valhallelujah is a MUST)
Fun fact: in the song drink, the second verse is an amalgam of title songs from their three previous album. The songs are: -set sail and conquer -wenches and mead -huntmaster -the quest -the famous ol’ spice -levianthan -back through time -rum shipwrecked
It's not just the dance moves, Magnetic North also lifted the chords, progression and timing off of Telephone. It's a cover with different lyrics and played on different instruments, but otherwise the same song.
And just after that, they released Tortuga, where Captain Yarrface raps and it does not sound like anything from Alestorm :D ...and he has also review of that clip...like WTF?!?
Linzey, the singer Chris Bowes is also the brains behind Gloryhammer, he plays keyboards in this band but hides himself in a hooded cloak, check em out. Alestorm are massive in Europe and it looks like Gloryhammer will be. Love your music by the way and your voice is phenominal.
Went and saw Alestorm with some friends a few years back. I was very skeptical about “Pirate Metal”, but they put on a great show. And how often do you get to see metal with Keytar... So much fun!
They're really... original. i thought it was just a wannabe or smt when i heard the first time. But when i got into the "No Grave But The Sea" album. it's just awesome... at the end of the final song they really put you into a "pirate at the ocean" vibe. Really good band besides im still searching why they have a entired version of the album named "For dogs" switching the vocal lines for dogs barking haha. (you should listen "f*ck with an anchor, its hilarious)
I was never a big metal head as a kid, but Alestorm helped me not only explore metal but WACKY metal and I love it. I would LOVE to see your thoughts on TYR! While I'm not sure about music videos, but Mare of my Night and Sunset Shore are killer songs.
I heard these guys on a Metal Hammer sampler CD about 10 years ago. I've loved them ever since. My two favourite tracks though are Wolves of the Sea and Leviathon from their Black Sails at Midnight album.
Linzey, I don't know if you've already listened to any of their stuff, but Eluvietie is an amazing folk metal band that you should give a listen. The track "Celtos", off of the album Origins is a good display of their cleans (female) and screams (male).
Fun fact: this song also has the same structure as Telephone by Lady Gaga. There’s even a mash-up video with the Alestorm music and Gaga vocals called Magnetic Telephone on Christopher Bowes’ (Alestorm lead singer) YT channel. They match up perfectly.
Okay wait a minute.... I was randomly looking through videos when I saw "metal girl tries...". Not many women are into metal and it's always good to see. Figured I'd show my support by giving it a view and thumbs up. But then I looked at your library?!?! "Not that many reaction videos so maybe she's just starting? She seems to like this Anchor band. I'll give them a listen." WTF? Lol. That's you right? Mind blown. That's some serious growls and then some killer pipes. My first thought was Kittie. Just serious hardcore growls that transitions into an excellent normal singing voice. Congrats, just all around respect. We need more women in the genre like Kittie, L7, ect.
Think Running Wild started the genre back in the 80's but back then it was just called speedmetal. It would be fun (for me) if you would do Gojira, Amon Amarth or Unleashed.
Running Wild were just a metal band with pirate lyrics on some albums. I mean I love Running Wild but bands like Battleheart (later Alestorm), Verbal Deception and such really made it an actual sound
For my money, Alestorm's best track is Nancy the Tavern Wench off their Live at the end of the world album. As far as the Gaga parody, Christopher Bowes, Alestorm's lead singer is a massive Gaga fan. If you go to his channel here on YT, there's a video titled Magnetic Telephone which is a mashup if Magnetic North with Telephone and it is GLORIOUS.
Brothers of Metal would another awesome band to check out! They are a Swedish Heathen Pagan group who make music for themselves because they love it and want to have fun. Their brand of comedy and lover for the subject matter is a wonderful balance
Listened to these for years now, started listening for a joke because of the song F'd with an anchor ... but they actually have a really unique sound and well You're spot on with everything you said so yeah :D p.s Love the Anchor, you guys are all epic.
Oh no Now I'm going to be listening to these guys on Spotify all day. I got into Wizard Metal a couple of months ago and it was a rabbit hole ever since lol
Alestorm are awesome.. i've seen them 2 times already on stage and thats incredible.. totaly worth it. Funny, exciting, melodic, stuff that makes you go crazy and sets up party mood.. 🤘🤣
Linzey is adorable!!! If you like pirate metal, I dont necessarily know what's called but I'll call it dwarven metal the band name is called "Windrose"
Alestorms Magnetic North is the same key and chord structure of Telephone and Chris wrote it with that in mind. There's a mashup of the two available on TH-cam
For magnetic north... right after napalm records published the clip on YT, the singer realeased "magnetic telephone" on his channel, the voices from telephone over the music from magnetic north. Still no idea "why", but it was fun to see ^^
Another one of my favorite bands! You are killing it Linzey! I can't wait to see y'all again, and I can't wait for the next video in this series. I'd also recommend Psychostick. I imagine you've heard of them, but if not, you're in for a treat.
I can recommend an endless well of bands for you to check out. A good rabbit hole to go down is the Viking Metal / Swedish Death Metal/ Melodic Death Metal bands (focusing on bands from Europe). You've likely heard of Amon Amarth, which is a good place to start. You'll come across bands like In Flames, Scar Symmetry, At The Gates, Soilwork, Solution .45, Sonic Syndicate, The Unguided, among countless other amazing bands that helped influence metal music in ways that most aren't aware. You'll also find hidden gems that you will never forget. Enjoy.
You should check out a band named Imminence. They're from Sweden. Their older stuff is more heavy metal but their newer stuff has a lot more of him singing and playing the violin. I think they'll be up your alley
Alestorm puts on a fun live show. I saw them last year and their merch had sold out, so they had a for sale sign on their inflatable rubber ducky prop during their set. Of course they closed on Fucked with an Anchor, which is a hilarious and catchy song.
So glad to see you checked out Alestorm lol if you ever have the chance to see them live, I'd recommend it for sure; I have never seen an accordion, parrot, python, and a fiddle solo, all at once, til them. What are your thoughts on Rap Metal, like DVSR or Hacktivist, any chance you'll check them out?
You should also check out Dread Crew of Oddwood, 100% acoustic pirate metal- they call it heavy mahogany. Met them at a Renaissance fair and have been a fan since
So to give you context on Magnetic North they did that in the theme of Lady GaGa's Telephone on purpose, if you go to Christopher Bowes (Alestorm's Lead Singer) TH-cam channel and look for Magnetic Telephone you'll see
It's not just the music video for Magnetic North, the entire song is metal Telephone. Pretty sure Christopher Bowes just loves the song and did his own tribute to it. :D
So putting two and two together, you probably already know this, but giving how their truck thing flies off the cliff and it says to be continued, and the video Alestorm - Alestorm starts with them recovering from a wrecked truck thing. I guess the song Alestorm is the continuation. It works in my head. Anyway, watch them back to back and see what you think.
They did make a sequel to Magnetic North's video. The beginning of the video for the song Alestorm starts with the band lying in a pile on the ground and the car that they drove off the cliff wrecked in the background.
Cool vid! I really enjoy watching these! I think the only pirate metal sounding band I’ve heard is Nekrogoblikon. You should check out Iced Earths album “The Dark Saga” the whole album is about the comic book character Spawn and you might already know about within the ruins but they have an album called “phenomena” and each track is about a different comic book character
have you heard Arsonists Get All The Girls? kind of old and obscure at this point, but their Shoeshine For Neptune music video would likely make for a very entertaining reaction video xD
Check out gloryhammer, first song off their first album is called The unicorn invasion of Dundee and one of the fellas from alestorm is even in the band :)
Idk if you'll see this but I saw you at I matter and it was so fucking cool..I listened to your interview and your "20 minute" time slot was amazing you were better than some of the first few bands that performed...I wish I had been able to talk to you in your merch tent
'super out there metal' oh... I listen to them loads and thought I was normal. Love Alestorm and the stuff Chris Bowes does is awesome, guy is a smart gifted cookie
I think you should have checked out Nancy The tavern wench and you are a pirate. Those two I always recommend first when suggestion pirate metal or alestorm.
Checkout the other band Chris Bowes is in (Alestorm lead singer) GloryHammer It's a sci-fi themed metal. Napalm records has a lot of good bands. Aether Realm is another.

I would like to see one or two more songs listened to per video. Ideally from different albums from the band to get a better overall feel of the music :)
I recommend a band called Lord of The Lost, they are a german gothic band, they have a cover of Bad Romance. But they also have beautiful classical albums. All their music is brilliant
Go to Alestorm's songwriter's youtube channel, Christopher Bowes Magnetic North used Telephone as it's entire musical skeleton and he made a mashup of the 2 songs on his channel
As a folk metal nerd, I feel like you need to expand from pirate folk metal and experience Viking folk metal. Brothers of Metal is a really great lesser-known band. For more Pirate Metal try Largerstein "Dig Bury, Drink!" - the pirate at the start walking on the beach is a fellow crewmate from The Pirates of North Brisbane called "Woody"
Ale Storm has gotten so much better since I first found them. And their latest album. They're just havin fun. Treasure Chest Party Quest. Lol omg! Christopher Bowes has an xmas song, a song about beans, he even protested pirates with the west boro baptist church a couple Warped Tours ago. 😆 Oh and "F*ked with an Anchor" of their last album is a perfect and cheeky song when youre just in a fed up mood. Lol 🍻
Dude if you think Alestorm is weird, I got one for you, Nekrogoblikon, yeah, that's right Goblin Metal is a thing, get ready
+1 for Nekrogoblikon, much more heavier and really good band too
Absolutely check these out, soooooo good!

@@LinzeyRae if you check Nekrogoblikon out make sure to check out the song The Magic Spider
yeah they are wacky for sure... but then again aren't they just all following in the footsteps of GWAR? it's all good :)
Check out his other band Gloryhammer
Yes! Rise of the Chaos Wizards!
Hoots!
Power Metal sucks though
Hail Hoots!
Definitely second that, Gloryhammer is also awesome.
you should check out Wind Rose, they're a Lord of the Rings themed Dwarven metal band as well as Gloryhammer (the lead singer of alestorm is their keyboardist and plays the evil wizard in their stories) and NANOWAR OF STEEL (Valhallelujah is a MUST)

"This next song is the magnetic north"

Magnetic Telephone?
