      There are no real Scotts in the band by this point. Chris sounds Scottish because he grew up there, but his parents are English and he's now an American citizen. Drummer and bassist are Northern Irish, keyboardist is English and guitarist is Hungarian.

    Mexico is one of Alestorm's party songs. They started off with darker, more serious and historical pirate themes and stories, but as time's gone on they like to write songs that are fun and tangentially connected to pirates.

    Alestorm was originally called Battleheart from 2004 to 2007. They were doing the pirate theme way before signing to Napalm in 2007. Soon after signing to Napalm, they changed their name to Alestorm. And the rest is history...

    Alestorm started out as Battleheart. They released 2 demos under that name (back in 05 and 07 I think?) before they signed with Napalm. That's when they rebranded as Alestorm and released their first album. I'm only part way through the video as i post this, so I might respond to myself with more stuff by the end

    • @orlandobotney1359
      @orlandobotney1359 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some people have mentioned, but they are Scottish. They originally formed in Perth, I believe, but they were from all over Scotland and would do long distance writing and meet up for practices. Mexico actually comes from later albums where they take a more party vibe. The first couple albums were played "straight" with the pirate gimmick and they have some amazing celtic synth work with the guitars. But they evolved the gimmick from straight men to also embracing the party vibe and it really brought... for lack of a better phrase, new life, to the gimmick as a whole because there were other bands experimenting with it, but didn't have the staying power like Alestorm had after they evolved it a bit

    Alestorm is from Scotland. The influence you are hearing is called folk metal. I cannot say that it was started in Scotland/Ireland, but it definitely is influenced by Celtic culture. Celtic culture is something that Scotland and Ireland do definitely share.
    They invented an entire subgenre Pirate Metal.
    They have a release they called Captain Morgan's Revenge.
    They have a song called Fuck You with an Anchor.
    I would have suggested the song Drink.
    Alestorm is very entertaining.
