  • In this video I am restoring an old saw blade But instead of an ordinary Handle, I am carving a "hand handle" so you can shake hands while you are sawing lumber.

When you were sculpting the hand it was fascinating. How do you do that exactly? Is it that you know how it should look externally so that you're working on the outside of it or do you "see" the hand and you're simply removing the excess wood from around it? I know you artists see things differently than the rest of us and I've always wondered how you envision things like that. ANYWAY, thank you for the excellent entertainment, my friend!

Beautiful! When you want to glue clamp odd-shaped pieces, use strips cut from bicycle inner tubes. Make long strips as wide as you need them; pull the rubber as you wrap it and leave an initial tail sticking out so you can tie the ends together. The successive wraps create incredible tension, and the glue won't stick to the rubber. Guitar makers have been using this technique for many years now to glue binding into its channel. Cheers and be well!

When doing electrolytic rust removal, I find I get really good results if:
    1. The surface area of the part to be treated is less than the piece hooked to the other lead.
    2. All the surfaces that you want treated can directly "see" the piece hooked to the other lead. Sometimes, that means you have to change the orientation od your part several times.
I hope this helps you if you need to do this again!

It can be a great premise to a horror movie: a man creates a saw and a piece of wood with hands for a youtube video, then he accidently cuts himself, some blood drips onto those things and they become alive because of horror movie logic... the next time the man takes the saw it grabs him and do not let go. Then the saw telepaticly commands the man to take piece of wood into other hand. Wood grabs him too. The saw tells him to cut the wood into sharp stake... because... the vampire apocalypse is comming and he was chosen by... ehm... oh, I know! Two hundred years ago there was a vampire-vampire slayer (kind of like Blade) and vampires have cought him and chained to the tree, and since he was immortal the tree grow arond him and and his flash was dissolved in it, and now it's the same tree tha man used to make a hand saw and the hand wood... Ok so now the vampire-vampire slayer's soul posesses those things and they won't let the man go untill he kills the vampire god named Bob... or Samantha. ... Yeah, it's more like horror action movie... I would name it "Cut and Poke Vampire Folk!"... meh... I'll think of the name later. "Your wood cold use hand" - that's the slogan though.

One thing you may have considered is to bring the blade in center with your arm, rather than in the center of the piece itself (so in this case, the blade would have been closer to the wooden hand's wrist). This should preserve force better in the front-back motion, for a smoother sawing experience (that may also explain some of the wobble you mentioned)

I never realised the angle of a handshake was that much like the angle on a handsaw -
Thinking about it, it seems like if you were doing a lot of sawing and started to get a cramp in your hand, a handle like that would be a lot easier on your tendons and joints - like an arthritic person using a fatter pen when they write.
