Ferrari Purosangue DRIVEN: Worth £400k? | Top Gear

  • So then, the Purosangue. In literal terms 'pureblood'. There's a V12 up front and all-wheel drive, but more importantly, four doors and four seats. Controversial. There's also a hatch and a decent enough boot, Ferrari even has plans for ski and bike carriers - carbon fibre and fabulously expensive, obviously - and the sense that if practicality had been skinned down to the bare essentials in favour of Ferrari-ness, you'd be looking at it.
    The 6.5-litre V12 produces 715bhp, enough to launch the Purosangue from 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds. Sprightly... But how does it fare on Italy's snow covered mountain roads? Top Gear Magazine's Associate Editor, Tom Ford, finds out.

    At first I didn't like the Purosangue. However by now I really appreciate it. Naturally aspirated V12, roomy interior in a Ferrari, a trunk and special looks to set it apart from all other SUVs? That's a win.
    The Urus and Benteyga are just big Q8s/Touaregs, this is really special. I couldn't choose between the Purosangue and the DBX, luckily (or sadly) I'm not in that position anyway xD
    Another thing is, that Ferrari didn't have to make an SUV, they made enough profit anyway. They just did it because they wanted to. They just said to themselves "what would the best SUV possible look like?" and developed this.

    • @ludda42

    • @jacopus
      @jacopus ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @@ludda42 you would be right if Ferrari didn't limit their Purosangue production to a maximum 20% of their total manufacturing potential. So yes, while Lamborghini is officially an SUV producer (59% of all Lamborghinis were Urus in 2021), Ferrari will stay the unique and true super/hyper cars manufacturer they have always been. I guess that's the difference between being managed by Germans or staying truthful to their origins!

    • @EmoBirb
      @EmoBirb ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@ludda42 LOL.
      Not in the slightest, Ferrari had an amazing 2022, with a 13% jump in profits despite an overall struggling economy and ongoing chip shortage.
      They just made an SUV because they can, they want to show their rivals that they don't need it, yet do it better.
      The real money makers for Ferrari are cars like the Roma, Portofino and F8.

    I'd buy the "base" version for just under $500k Canadian and get 18" after market wheels all around for better tire selection and I just like even diameter wheels all around.

    I had my reservations about this car when it was announced however what a stunning looking & sounding machine. Strangely, I seem to be in the vast minority when it comes to the option of satnavs in cars. On the positive side, a built in system is of course easier to use. But... In todays technical climate, it really is a waste of money for manufacturers. So long as Android auto (or apple Carplay) is included. I believe this is by far a much better option. As for folk saying losing the phone signal is bad, Google maps prompts you to download any maps when you install it. It then prompts you to update these maps when they need it. You can also download, free of charge, any map data onto your phone so that you can fully navigate 'offline'. From experience this works a wee treat. Good on Ferrari....... Dacia do this as well to save build costs!

    in regards to the phone dropping out of service if you use google maps, and load your destination and don't exit out of the app and if you lose service it will go into offline mode and you'll still be able to get to where you were going with directions. I don't really see that as being a problem for most people who are buying this car and even in offline mode, with pre loaded info you can still see roads around you and have a general idea of where you are. I have sat nav in my car and have never used it and I've been to some pretty remote areas just always find it clunky.

    I get you Sir and I fully agree with the "Start Button" issue. It should be more mechanical. Haptic feedback "Start Button" is no different to having a performance car steered by a joystick instead of a steering wheel. Lacks involvement & emotion. With regards to the lack of rear wiper, both Purosangue & DBX have got it super wrong. Yes, it's nice & clean but the rear spoiler doesn't serve the rear wiper purpose. Atleast they should have their rear-view mirror be camera style just like in the new Defender. Great review, man.

    As a Ferrari fan I was opposed to the idea of Ferrari making an SUV/Crossover at first but Ferrari really did such an amazing job on the design and the overall package that I absolutely love it now. The Purosangue is fantastic. Looks great, sounds great, has plenty of power and luxury + quite practical too. What's not love?

      Im not a fan of the looks .............
      Its all the holes , the slashes of nothingness , the fussiness , concave and convex bits for no real reason ? even the headlights look like something citroen would knock out after an 80`s coke party . Im not feeling it at all . I dont think its ugly but holes ? . People are going to take the piss .
      Its target market is a bloke called brian who owns a sofa factory . Brians got a bit of a belly on him and getting into something low and sporty isnt going to happen often what with his bad knee . However he wants to buy a new car and stick it on exes , better than giving it to the tax man aye , so something bloody expensive gives him a bit of kudos for his customers and shows off nicely when hes on the 19th hole .
      Problem is rob , who runs a metal forming place just off the A50 and daz ( fire cleaning company ) are all going to be shown the new wheels and give there thoughts on it .
      Brians going to have to explain those hydrofoils to create groundforce hidden in crevices and pin point handling while everyones going to think him a bit of a wanker given all he does it sit on the M6 at 50 for 90% of all his driving .
      ``whats the bottle and rag for ?``
      ``no rear wiper to save weight ``
      `` so whats the bottle and rags weigh ? , it isnt half making a mess of your boot ``
      The twin screens would seriously piss me off . I do not need , want or desire anyone sat next to me feckin about with settings . That would drive 99.9% of people mad .
      The seats look something special until i saw some sort of strap lashed down the middle right up your arse crack , not sure why its there ? perharps to remind you you took it up the gary by paying half a million for this ..... jury is out on these seats . Maybe in the flesh it works ? not sure .
      The back seats ...... back ... seats .... in a ferrari ? are sporty which is odd for back seats . Clearly the same citroen fella who came up with the c3 plural thought he would have a go at knocking up a parcel shelf rear seat arrangement .
      Engine ......... a screamer ? ..........
      Id want something thats got 1200 pounds of torque , revs to 4K , has a deep rumble and takes almost no throttle response to put whatevers in front behind . Blarting up and down on the paddles works if its a golf R but on a sports ute ? . Id want an engine thats power absolute not absoulete power .
      To each there own . It would be a crappy world if we all liked the same thing . The world could be full of trabants ! .

    Alfas Stelvio has the agile Power-Distribution to the front axle once the rear wheels loose grip - amazing feature. What I wonder: What is the steering ratio with this absolute and mind boggling beauty? Since I drive a Stelvio with a 12:1 exceptionally direct steering ratio, I don't enjoy other cars that much anymore (less go-carty).

      And whoever conceived of using 'hidden' suicide doors in the rear, in order to improve back seat access while still TECHNICALLY being able to say there are NO FOUR DOOR FERRARI'S is a GENIUS!
      I just hope there's a manual open/close option because the automatic electric function seems FRUSTRATINGLY slow. And those tiny doors can't possibly weigh enough to make it significantly LESS luxurious to operate them by hand?

    Ferrari's initial claim against producing SUVs likely stemmed from their pride in maintaining the brand's exclusive image and heritage, which has been built around high-performance sports cars. Their focus on staying true to their roots might have been the driving force behind the statement, but market trends and consumer demand have influenced their eventual decision to develop an FUV. But when Ferrari eventually developed and released their FUV, it was met with acclaim due to its impressive design, performance, and features. Despite their initial hesitation to enter the SUV market, the company managed to create an exceptional vehicle that embodies the essence of the brand while catering to the growing demand for versatile luxury automobiles.
