Lets be quite clear here: A mclaren 765LT makes 765 horsepower. However, that is the power it makes on the legally mandated engine power test (ISO1585 in the UK/EU). That test is a stabilised test ie the engine is loaded on an ENGINE DYNO, and the power measured at enough points across the engine speed range to be able to establish the torque curve. Each test point is required by law to have a certain stability, ie for the power to not change ecessively during the logging of that test point, and each individual point would be held for around 2 to 3 minutes. During the test, the boundary conditions (water and oil temps, intercooling performance, fuel pressure and garde, ambient pressure and humidity etc) all have to be precisely controlled to the defined conditions. So as someone who has actually witnessed the power certification for this engine, i can tell you that the 765 makes it's claimed power and no more. These tests are also independantly witness and verified by each countries certification agency to ensure no cheating, or manipulation of the test facility or the data created. What you see in this video is what happens when you put a car on a set of chassis rollers, and take a "flash reading" ie non stabilised, and have no control over any of the boundary conditions, and apply an arbitrary correction factor and coast down drag.. You get a different number. Now, typically with heavily turbocharged vehicles, which are very dependant on their intercooling performance to maintain turbocharger efficiency (and hence pre turbine back pressure and knock margins), when you take a flash reading, yes, you will indeed record a power figure that is somewhat higher than the stabilised OE homologation figure, because the engine is relatively cold. This is why we have the industry standard power certifaction tests that are legally mandated, precisely because they allow carefully controlled conditions and hence allow the comparison of cars all tested over those same tests. This is also why "tuner" power is, ime about 25% smaller than OE power, because the tuners don't tend to have access to the proper certification facilities (and because there industry revolves around being able to claim the biggest number, no matter how truthful that number is, so they would rather quote the flash reading.

@@dariox3084 good example is the 720s vs the Pista. We know McLaren is not telling the truth with their numbers....720S clearly remains unexplained. 660whp but around 780bhp at the crank. The 765LT was correct with its whp, but at the crank it goes up to 880bhp. Anyway their cars really perform as advertised.
tbh it sucks that they lie about this stuff because it makes them seem "better" than rival cars that have the same claimed hp when all they're doing is adding hp
I hear your point, but if it was your money in that 765LT wouldn't you be happy to get more than you paid for? Most manufacturers understate their figures now, so it's not likie Mclaren is cheating. You take a F90 M5 for eg with a claimed 591bhp. Most make anywhere from 630hp to 650hp stock. The AMG 63S makes around the same even though it's claimed figure is 604bhp.
@@stubones a little more power is fine but over a hundred is a bit too much. The main issue is that it makes other rival cars look bad. If I bought a ferrari 488 pista I'd be pretty disappointed seeing a heavier 720s with the "same" hp gapping me. The second issue is reliability cuz generally higher hp cars are less reliable. And yea I know that they understate less consistent numbers like quarter miles and 0-60 so idk lol I guess I like knowing exactly what I'm paying for
Great video! In the UK Dynojet is very disbelieved! Rule of thumb in the UK is that a Dynojet WHP is what it SHOULD be calculated crank! No one in the UK believes Dynojet numbers especially Dynojet without Eddy brakes to actually load the car up correctly for a test sweeps

@@fatalgaming6068 its not a perfectly linear relationship. Those were both STD numbers (not SAE Corrected) for both cars being compared. The day the 720s was dynoed (see 6:31 in the video and pause it) it was 87 degrees with 58% humidity (high density altitude). For the 765LT its only 65 degrees with 37% humidity (very low density altitude). On a turbo car, those differences in temperature and humidity would give the 765LT a large HP advantage. Why not use SAE (corrected for weather conditions) for an apple to apple comparison? Those two different dyno days are worth about 3000 ft. DA or at least 30 hp (on a naturally aspirated car - turbo would be more of an advantage in the cool air).

@@MrOnat89 depends on the vehicle but regardless none underrate their engines this much 😂
They have to say the horsepower it will make with the poorest quality fuel I.e some low grade African fuel it would make xxx bhp/psi.
Technically they ain’t lying, they just told you the whp instead of crank hp😂😂
Possibly the coolest channel ever! Thanks for sharing your 765 with us Brooks! It’s like 55 here in Montana today too 😂
Lets be quite clear here: A mclaren 765LT makes 765 horsepower.
A very measured and knowledgable response 👍 @DragTimes Brooks, listen to this guy.
Well said.👏👏
Yep this is correct.
no wonder it is keeping up, or beating hyper cars. almost 900HP and super light. awesome!
You gotta get a Novitec kit on this! Make it the beast it truly is!
I literally just watched their video. That car is outrageous!
That 765 is sick!!! Definitely my favorite car out right now!
Aliens are trying to steal McLaren engine and drivetrain tech. Other electronics, not so much.
mclaren lies about top speed accleration power to not make p1,senna owners unhappy because a car half (kinda) their price have better performance than the 1mil+ they paid for their mclaren
They're paying for rarity pretty much
Take a Senna round the track and a 765lt round, and you'll see where the extra cash goes. Still, splendid car though.

Now these results bring Novitec into question. Have they even tuned the car or just revealed its true power? 🤔🤔🤔
That's exactly what I was thinking... maybe their tune with exhaust and a flash actually decreased power lololol
@@kirubino Most likely it's dyno calibration issues.
Its different than you think, even Novitec underestimate their power but less aggressive than Mclaren, the reason is they want the car to guarantee (at least) that power for lengthy period, so the tune is legit and if done on Dyno you will see easily over 900hp
@@kirubino brooks put 100 octane racing fuel on this dyno session. He should put normal 93 octane pump gas and see how much the difference. turbo engine benefit a lot from running high octane racing fuel.
@@ardijanuar2036 just FYI, we have 98 octane at every Shell station in UK. It's the only fuel I use.
In original 3.8L form when this engine was used by Nissan in their LeMans program with r390 GT1, without restrictors it was pushing 1000hp at the crank. Just epic engine that was built in the 1990s. BTW, there are not DFI, so technically should be longer lasting than most modern DFI engines.
At this point Mclaren might as well come out and tell us about the aliens they abducted to work for them
Hennessey also put the 765LT on the dyno. 750 whp on 93 octane and 780 whp on race fuel 109 oct.
This thing pulls like a freight train. This is a whole new level compared to the pista, and almost makes the Ford gt look like a family sedan
i’m amazed when people say a car is on a new level because they underrate the power. Great car but we have 2jz’s and 4 bangers that would smoke this. I dnt get it. If Ferrari wanted to underrate a car and chase power figures they can.
@@bigjdm5460 well why aren't they doing it then if it is so easy. 900 hp stock from a 4.0l v8 is pretty impressive in my opinion
Thats why its beating everything else! Lighter and much more power (and good powerband). Even more than a mapped turbo S
The 765 is definitely the king
You have completely sold me on buying a 765 and yes im going to modify & tune it up maybe an extra 100-150 hp
I am guessing it has 765 hp to the wheels.
Edit: McLaren should have just called it the 795lt or 800lt
In metric hp it has 765 to the wheels
These are BS drum dynos! The only way to test these is on a maha dyno which manufactures and race teams use! The old 720 read 715-735 on a maha dyno at the crank! Brooks knows this as he’s on the maclife forum. Disappointing that he shouts out these figures as it’s a discredit to the engineering in the McLaren! It’s light, great gearbox and ratios and has a great power curve.
The only use for these drum dynos is back to back runs or comparing to another car.

So cool. That car is an absolute monster. I don’t even think we need to see the 720 race it. You might as well just go ahead and sell the 720 and get the SF90. The SF90 is the only thing in the same league as the 765LT until the Plaid+ Model S comes out.

This thing is going to beat some hybrid awd hypercars isn't it..
😏
I see what you did there ... with the right driver yes. I am more curious on the 1/2 mile.
Most likely not in 0-60 or quarter mile, but past that, yes. Hybrid cars are usually heavy because of the electric motors.
AWD cars will beat it off the line, due to traction. Then 765LT will go past, but probably over 100mph by then.
Precision of these Dyno testings +-100hp!
There are variables, but even despite this being a Dyno Jet and STD correction, that number is a very valid proof of a severely underrated car.
I would LITERALLY have my left nut surgically removed to own this car. I could care less, this car is totally worth it.
What's stopping?
McLaren Always outdoes themselves, can't want to be a proud owner of one of these beasts, thanks for the entertainment Brooks.
Gee im not surprised at all Mclaren is known for this for some weird reason. The 720s dynoed at just about 700whp so this makes sense plus factor in how fast these things accelerate and its 1/4mile times. It just dont make sense how these cars kill the competition with "710hp" and "754hp". Its bs lol. But good numbers
yeah it's cheating...i just don't get why they lie , these cars are absolutely fast no doubt about it...but every video, every race it's "whoa, what fast car for 720hp!" or when races against another car with the same hp and smash it it's the same story..
It’s because the weight Mclaren say it is is actually correct. When brook put his Ferrari on the scales it weighed loads more so power to weight ratio is every.
@@dariox3084 good example is the 720s vs the Pista. They have exactly the same horsepower and torque and similar size engines with twin turbos and even though the Ferrari is about 100lbs heavier, the McLaren for some reason is nearly half a second quicker in the 1/4mile on their best days. And its because the 720 really has about 780hp

And imagine that: cars make more power on the street than they do on the dyno due to airflow, high pressure air zones and cooling efficiency :O
Congratulations on the crazy Dyno run for your 765LT. Time to get some running and mods done like full straight pipe decatted full exhaust system and other things. The McLaren Sabre with 824 hp already exists, but there were few built.
No the mclaren. No you
We know McLaren is not telling the truth with their numbers....720S clearly remains unexplained.

@@stubones Shhhhhhh don't talk to idiot into thinking smart
@@stubones a little more power is fine but over a hundred is a bit too much. The main issue is that it makes other rival cars look bad. If I bought a ferrari 488 pista I'd be pretty disappointed seeing a heavier 720s with the "same" hp gapping me. The second issue is reliability cuz generally higher hp cars are less reliable. Drivetrain loss I am guessing is closer to 8%-10%. Mid engine are crazy efficient and paired with a DCT, it is very good.
There’s no way the drivetrain is sucking 120 hp
it can very easily. most cars lose about 10-15% from drive train loss and as the hp number goes up so does the drive train loss.
@@fatalgaming6068 its not a perfectly linear relationship. The more power the car has the more inertia comes into play with wheels, tires, gears, etc. because the rotational acceleration of those components will be a higher value but the loss due to friction and fluid viscosity stays relatively the same assuming similar dyno speeds are used
