I graduated high school in 1977. A classmate of mine took a non-Boss 429 69 Fastback and modified the engine bay to fit a Boss 429 engine in it. He got the drive train out of a wrecked original. The engine was rebuilt/built with 12.5:1 compression, tunnel ram and 2-4's (Dominators). The night I saw the car he had wrinkle wall slicks and wheelie bars on the car. It was parked in a gas station where he was parked with it. I pulled in to talk, about 3am. He said he was waiting for the local cruise traffic to die off and was ready to take the car out for a one-way pass. When he started up the car it shook. As he let off on the clutch he chirped the rear tires. I followed out and then the lane next to him. We slowed down for a red light. He then told me not to go when the green light came. Once he got a green, he nailed it and dumped the clutch. The front end came way off the ground, and the wheelie bars kept the car at about 45 degrees up. Both rear tires were smoking. As the front end was starting to come down, he hit second and the front car back up, same thing for 3rd and 4th. All the way from 1-4th gear on the rear wheels. The car drifted a half lane over to my lane, I was still sitting at the green light watching. He set the front end down and it bounced a little side to side but no issues. The next night he did the same, but a cop saw him, he got a few tickets, and lost his license for 30 days. Some of the tickets were equipment violations others weren't. He never drove it on the road after that.
Sorry but there isn't a single modern car built today that would impress me like that car did. Craziest thing I ever saw in person on the street.

What an amazing collection of early Ford Factory built drag cars. I still remember as a kid back in 1964 visiting a ford dealership with my dad shopping for a new Galaxy. We came across a new 1964 Galaxy 500 with the twin flags on the fender that showed 427. Cars were often left unlocked and stored behind a large fence. I set inside and noticed a 4 speed and under the hood was a dual 4 barrel 427. REVan. Your channel always has amazing Ford vehicles and extremely informative. No. My dad didn't purchase the 427 Galaxy.

This is exactly my favorite stuff to see, the old school FoMoCo iron. Incredible cars, I just can't decide a winner: Boss 429, '63 Galaxie, '64 Galaxie? But i'm absolutely confident that at 9:35 you see the best looking motor of the collection. I didn't know about a SOHC Maverick, really looking forward for that video.
Damn, why '63 and '64 Galaxies are so awesome?

My Dad worked at a large Ford dealership in Ohio. In 1970, I was watching TV, after finishing my homework, and heard a rumbling noise pulling in the driveway. It was Dad in a new Boss 429 Mustang! He had taken it out for a “test drive” and asked me if I wanted to come along. (Duuuhhh…😉😄) To say it was an amazingly powerful car, would not do it justice. It was more than that. I had heard it was rated at 345 HP. Maybe at 3500 RPM!!😄
    Wish I had one today.🙄

That was awesome to see. I've been a gear head since i was old enough to watch street cars Back in the day I had a 1967 289ci V8 red with black vinyl top and all black interior with buckets Auto Trans. I sold it about 2 years later because i couldn't pull my self to tear it apart to name it go fast. Traded to a buddy of mine for his 1969 GTO non JUDGE w 389 tripower with a Hurst 4 spd. Later on found out the mustang was a collectors item😮😮😮😮😮 In 1969 mid production FORD changed the rack of the rear window to more of a fast back style. Called my buddy he said he had the car still but it was in back if his garage parked. I asked why as it was always in the garage he told me he TOTALED THE CAR OUT DRAG RACING DROPPED A TRANSLINE SPUN OUT HIT A TREE😢😢😢😢 Also mist people don't realize FORD made a 427, 428,429 cobra jet as well as a super cobra jet motor all bad ass engines ❤❤❤❤

A friend bought a Boss 429. It wasn't a screamer but a really nice Mustang. Then he started having troubles with water in the oil. Seems there were no head gaskets, per se, Ford used "O" rings around the cylinders. He never could get it to stop leaking, even after replacing the rings several times.
